Arrived early hours of the morning as we were Thomson's last drop off. Yiannis was there to meet us and help with our cases.
We had asked for a low floor and quiet room, which is exactly what we were allocated. Room 53, semi-basement with only a few steps up or down to get anywhere in the complex, a decent sized terrace with flower bed (lovely cannas, roses and geraniums) between us and pool, so fairly private. Terrace has a couple of chairs, table and drying rack, which is very useful. Got the sun for much of the day.
Studio is basic, but has everything you need. Comfortable beds with nice clean linen and squidgy pillows (I asked for extra pillows as I need to sleep propped up and these were supplied immediately by Yiannis). There's a wardrobe with shelf and a few hangars, a dressing shelf with mirror over and a bedside table with drawers. Plenty of room to put suitcases. The simple kitchen has sink, fridge, two electric rings and kettle and crockery and cutlery for two people.
Also in the room is a safe and air-conditioner, which cost extra, but is efficient and worth every penny.
Rooms were cleaned well every day and the bins emptied.
Only thing I didn't like was the shower. It had an inadequate shower curtain and water flooded the bathroom floor. But that's par for the course in most Greek accommodation we have stayed in.
Yiannis and family are so kind and helpful, they sent me to a local pharmacy when I had a minor medical problem. Pharmacist spoke excellent English and was really knowledgable, sorted the problem in no time. He even asked me to come back the next day to see how I was.
There is a pool bar open during the day selling drinks and snacks and a lovely bar at the front of the apartments shaded by a magnificent bourganvillea, presided over by the delightful Stacy. This is on a little square with the small church to one side, all very pretty and the cheapest drinks that we found in the resort. Free wi-fi is available in the indoor bar.
Greek night on a Wednesday is great fun, professional dancers, great food cooked by Sophia and Maria and well attended.
The two best restaurants we found were Jannis, proper Greek food just over the beach road and Amici, an Italian restaurant next door. So if you want good food you don't need to go far.
We were able to pay a few Euros to keep our room on until six o,clock on the last day as we weren’t being picked up until mid evening.
Stalis is sandwiched between the party resorts of Malia and Hersonosiss and is a lovely little resort, ideal for families; nice sandy beach, couples; lots of good restaurants and bars and older people; beach road is fairly flat. It’s a great place to sit in the Leprechaun bar and people watch.
Stefania is not 5* but If you want a simple, clean and comfortable base run by a lovely family who delight in making their guests happy and comfortable then this is the place for you.
Thanks Yiannis and family. Sue and Dave
