For the budget traveller this is a good place to stay. Cheap, basic, clean, great location. Can't understand why people have moaned about it. The room is cleaned by lovely Albanian lady and you have everything you need, albeit in a limited way. Air conditioning if you want it. Not great views but you can just step out and be right in the middle of Pythagorion, close to all the tavernas, shops etc.

If you want to stay in a complex with a pool and meals provided and pay through the nose for it, do not stay here. If you want to get close to Greece and the Greeks, this is perfectly fine.

Room Tip: Ask for room 6, 7 or 8

Exactly what we expected, a basic 2 star room, clean, small, good hot and cold water
pressure, fridge, 2 ring cooker and airconditioning. We have been travelling the greek
islands for 30+ years and thorougly enjoyed our stay. The location is really close to the
restaurants/bars around the beautiful fishing port of Pythagorio. Tarzanos restaurant
is on the beach, service slow but good and the food very good.

We arrived at the hotel on 23 June for 2 weeks. Hotel has been updated since last year. Its in a fantastic location in Pythagorion, just off the main village street - close to everything you need - tavernas, bars, banks, supermarkets, fruit market, car park, car hire, bus stop, museum. Just a five minute walk and your down at the harbour - its really beautiful. Trips to other islands and picnics availble here.
The hotel has had bad reviews in the past, but I am being totally honest when I say that there has been a vast improvement and would recommend this small, typically Greek hotel to anyone. Its clean (the cleaner is lovely and makes boats, fish, hearts etc with the towels and sheets). Our room was on the top floor - beautiful views. We had a main bedroom and a lounge room, kitchen and bathroom. Air con is a must!! There is also a roof terrace with fantastic views of the village and surrounding areas. The basement rooms which caused so many problems last year are no longer used (except for staff) as far as we could see. This hotel is ideal and if your looking for a real touch of Greece - this is it.
The harbour is lovely - lots of tavernas and bars, beautiful yachts and lots to see. Captain Yiannis trips on the Agios Ireni are fun and make a fantastic holiday better.
Lots of tavernas to choose from - too many to mention!! Sample as many as possible!!

After reading the reviews on here after we had booked we were a bit apprehensive about actually going.

The hotel has improved a lot, we're were told that this was because Thomson now has the whole hotel, rather than just the top and basement floor.

It's clean, basic accomodation, it's great value for your money and has all the basics you need, and slap bang in the middle of Pythagorian, the beach is gorgeous and just a few minutes walk away, it's surrounded by lovely restaurants and ancient archaeological sites, your're also able to use the swimming pool at it's sister hotel Santa Catharina, it is a short taxi ride away though. (approx 6-7euros)

The room was airy with a balcony with a pretty good view, only a shower, but you don't really need a bath when it's 30 degrees outside. Towels are changed daily and sheets twice a week, the maid is really nice and if she likes you puts your sheets in heart shapes. Air conditioning, TV and safe are available for an extra charge.

Although the reception and bar is unmanned, you get a contact number for the owner, George is friendly and helpful, even treated us to some drinks and biscuits on arrival.

All in all really great for what we paid. Definitely would return and recommend.

Room Tip: Go for upstairs.

My wife and I have recently returned from a two week stay at The Mariona Studios, and have just booked another week at the end of September. This will make it the sixth time we have stayed there - a total of fifteen visits to Pythagorion in eleven years. What has prompted me to write this review? The number of negative comments I've read on this site about the Mariona Studios, posted by people who don't seem to understand the concept of Greek Studio accomodation. That is, a clean place to sleep, shower and store your luggage. If you are lucky, as we were recently, a balcony with a spectacular view for good measure. If you are looking for 4 star hotel luxury, try The Hydrele instead - the problem being, that it is a brisk half hour walk or taxi into Pythagorion proper as opposed to the Mariona which is a two minute walk from the harbour. Oh, I forgot to mention that a week in The Hydrele is currently more than twice the price of the same week in the Mariona Studios. In conclusion, in my opinion if you don't "get" the Mariona, perhaps you might be happier not visiting Greece full stop...

Having booked , then read some horrible reviews , We were panicking abit,
but it was a lovely place to stay, the room was clean and up to a good standard, the ladies that cleaned the rooms, did so everyday, the only thing that needs looking at is the fan in the toilet area,
This place makes you relax straight away,
George the owner , was a wealth of imformation, and being born there meant He knew what was what, He was 6 when taken to see the first plane arriving on the new airport.
We spoke to a lady who had stayed in the feared basement, she said it was a big size and had the advantage of been cool , so she did not need the air conditioning, she praised it very highly,
We would recomend Mariona studio's to anyone going to the Pythagorion, have no doubt it is a great place to stay.

After reading the reviews on tripadviser I was a bit concerned about the negative reports as I had already booked and paid for my holiday. Here I will give you my honest and truthful account of the complete package, Firstly your transfer is only 8 miles to the Mariona apartments where you will be greeted by George the owner, Your room is basic but clean and airy, its cleaned to a good standard everyday, towels changed everyday and bedding twice a week, Location is perfect just a few yards to the main st where you can get all your needs ie: supermarkets shops cafes and bars, 100 yards to the bottom of the street is the harbour area its jaw droppingly beautifull, yes I said "jaw droppingly beautifull" daily boat trips of every discription, and dozens of restaurants' something for everyone, a very nice meal for two with drinks £30 ish' and plenty of cheaper meals, a bottle of Mythos beer beer £2 plenty of small bars up the street, Pythagorion is a living breathing small Greek town and the locals are very friendly and helpfull and there are no hoards of tourists just a nice balance. I would recomend hireing a vehicle as the Island is beautifull beyond compare and Pythagorion can be done in a day. Don't expect manicured towns and villages but real places with real people going about there daily business.
Oh' and just for the record this holiday was £312 for two of us self catering, late breaks Thomson holidays. There was no negative side to this holiday. TM
