My husband and I travelled to Samos with our 8 month old daughter. We wanted a nice hotel near to an airport and close to a small town. Doryssa did not disappoint. From the moment we got there we knew we had made the right choice. The hotel is located on a pebbly beach (although the seabed is sandy after a few metres) and an easy 15 minute stroll into Pythagorio. There is a pavement all the way into town which is great for those with pushchairs. Although the hotel is near the airport there are no nightflights and not too many flights. Seeing the aeroplanes take off and land was quite entertaining. Watersports are available on the beach. There are some very interesting ancient ruins next to the hotel.

We stayed in the main hotel building on the second floor overlooking the restaurant and pool. Although the rooms are not big they have made very good use of the space and they are nicely furnished. The toilet/shower room was the best that we have had in Greece and we have been going to Greece for many years. The air-conditioning worked well and was a must for a comfortable nights sleep. Our room was cleaned thoroughly everyday - not just a quick wipe around.

The resort itself was perfect for us. A shallow pool for children and a decent size pool for more serious swimming. There is also an outdoor jacuzzi. A lifeguard was on duty around the pool everyday. You could collect hotel towels for the sunloungers from a hut on the beach. There were plenty of large umbrellas all around the pool and lots of seats in addition to the sunloungers. My husband used the gym everyday - one thing to note is that it is closed from 2pm to 5pm. We have used gyms in other hotels and were impressed by the equipment, they have Tecnogym equipment aswell as some free weights. We didn't use the spa but it did look very good.

We booked half-board and were happy with the food. You can swap your evening meal for lunch if you give them notice. The dinner is a hot buffet but don't let this put you off. The food was a mixture of Greek and Italian. The pool-bar has a good variety of food/snacks and we would recommend the pizzas.

The village part of the hotel is very charming and is designed to be like an authentic Greek Village. There is a village square which has a couple of shops, a church and a traditional Kafenion.

The hotel grounds are well-maintaned and kept very clean - again, the best we have seen in Greece.

The majority of the guests were either Scandinavian or Italian.

The real strength of the hotel is the staff. They are SO friendly and helpful - from the cleaners to the management. We would like to give a special mention to the waiting staff, especially Alexandra, Eleftheria, Aggeliki and Dimitris. They made such a fuss of our daughter and she loved interacting with them when we had our lunch in the poolbar.

Pythagorio is a laid-back harbourside town. There are lots of bars and restaurants around the harbour. There are also a couple of supermarkets and lots of gift and jewellery shops.

We would recommend this holiday to couples and families and would love to go back next year. Well done to all the staff at Doryssa and keep up the good work.

Room Tip: Ask for a seaview. Some of the rooms are overlooking the bar area and there is live music on some n...

We spent one week in June at this Doryssa Seaside Resort in Samos. We had all inclusive. It was only 5 minutes buss ride from airport,, and the planes were flying near and low overhead the hotel. But there were no flights at nights and early mornings, so the air traffic didn't really disturb us. It was also very short way to Pythagorion, only 10 minutes on foot. One day we took a taxi and went to the Samos City and the travel with the taxi wasn't too long either.
We got quite good general impression about Doryssa, but I have to mention a few negative and positive sides about the hotel.

Positive sides:
- The food at lunches and dinners was good, and the selection about food was large and alternating
- The staff at the reception were polite
- good accommodation, the family rooms were spacious
- good location
- The waiters at the dinners were nice and polite
- The beach was good.
Negative sides:
- At the first day, we asked at the reception that could we have an extra bed to our room, because we were having siblings at the age of 18 and 16 in one room, and they didn't want to sleep in same bed. Women at the reception said that of course you can have another bed. But during the week, the bed never arrived.
- The animator team was italian, and the activities which they organized were just for the big amount of hotels' visitors, Italians. Of course, if some of us would have just joined for the activities, they couldn't say no, you can't join in this. But at the pool and the beach the animators were walking and searching only Italians, and looking over us trying to see were there Italians. They didn't speak to anyone else.
- There were not enough sun-beds at the pool, and that meant that most of the visitors had to take the places at the beach. And they cost 3 euros per one. Even though we were having All Inclusive.
- At the pool bar, the most of the staff were pretty slow, and we thought that they served first of all the people without all inclusive, because they were paying at the moment. We had payed already, so we could be able to wait some time. And the some time was around 10-20 minutes nearly always.
- The selection at the drinks at the pool bar was pretty tiny for all inclusive -customers. Only some soft drinks, beer, wines and filter coffee. And those drinks were only available at the pool bar, we could not get the drinks for example from the lobby bar.
- There were no snacks, that we could get from the pool bar for the all inclusive guests. And we couldn't get even water bottles from anywhere. So we had to buy them to our room from the supermarket.
- This hotel shouldn't be marketing all inclusive, but full board. We have been at many all inclusive hotels, and this wasn't nowhere near as them.

i stayed at the Doryssa only for two nights during my 8 day stay in Samos. the only reason i didn't stay there the whole time was because i was getting married in Kokkari and my husband's family lives elsewhere on the island so we stayed near them.
otherwise i would have stayed the whole time! this hotel is spectacular!! truly beautiful!!
first let me talk about the hotel itself, then i'll get into the staff and the wedding!

the grounds are very very well kept, everything is clean at all times, which is surprising considering the amount of people there. the pools are immaculate, there are many.. some deep, some shallow, kids pool... the beach is right by the hotel.. like, it's on the beach, which is not a given in samos!
the rooms are wonderful! one of the best beds i've been on in a hotel, super comfortable, great fluffy blankets, pillow are nice, the A/C works without issue, the bathrooms are cutting edge and mordern... great big bath too, which was nice to relax in. great big window with a view over the sea and beach... paradise!
the spa is impeccable, services are really very very good. you never know what to expect when someone else does your hair or nails or things like that, but honestly they were better than anyone here at home!
the food... oh the food!!! WOW! is all i can say! and i know food!! my mother has a catering company and so i know a bit about good food and this was amazing! their pizza really is all it's cracked up to be but that's nothing compared to the rest!
which brings me to my wedding.... first i'll just say that the food they made for my wedding was outstanding! and my guests are picky people that are used to top resturants around the world, and they were floored by the quality and presentation.. really really good!
even the little nibbles they brought us while myself and my bridesmaids were getting ready was amazing! what this chef can do with food is really amazing! truly truly amazing!

i am from Canada, i don't speak Greek nor had i ever been to Greece, prior to my wedding.. so you can imagine how difficult it was to organize from here.... that is until i picked the Doryssa... they made everything so easy for me i still can't believe it!
i wanted somewhere modern and traditional at the same time and i found it all at the Doryssa!

First of all none of this would have been possible without Athina, the event coordinator at the hotel. this wonderful woman not only took care of everything i asked for, but she did so in a lovely, happy, smiling way the whole time.. and let me tell you; i sent A LOT of emails to her over the course of many months.. and not once did i get the impression that she was bothered by me. she made it all happen, worked on this as if her own daughther was getting married!
she was the only person on the island of all the people i was contact with (and there was a lot) that would respond to me promptly, that would actually do what she said she would do and that would even try her best to get me better deals with vendors!!
i mean she even went to Athens to get me cushions!!! i wanted blue cushions on the seats for the reception..detail i know, but it was important to me! everyone eles on this planet made fun of me for these cushions... but not Athina! she agreed it was a good idea, found the person to make them, went to Athens to make the deal and negotiated me a crazy price!!! AMAZING!!

the decorations, the hair and make up, she even took the florist to the church with her to make sure they got the flowers right..since i didn't know with my own eyes what the place really looked like (other then internet shots... but it's not the same in person.. it's better!!) i explained the look i was going for and she nailed it! she took care of everything for me...it was awesome!

she found me a Dj, took care of special requests.. even a few days beofre the wedding my bridesmaids changed their mind and wanted hair done at the last minute.. and Athina made it happen!

they staff was so gracious and so friendly, they helped us with anything we needed and again, always doing so with a smile!

i can't say enough about the services at the Doryssa, i had some specific ideas that i wanted for my wedding and they accomodated me at every turn, they truly went above and beyond the call fo duty, i mean it was better then what i could have imagined in my wildest dream.

We had a poolside cocktail, with signature drink and tons of yummy food, hot and cold, with all the waiters and service we could ask for.
the reception took place at Boca restaurant, on the hotel grounds, and the scenery is just stunning. we were about 10 meters from the water's edge, had a lovely breeze but we weren't cold. the bathrooms are right there, which is great because this way none of the guests had to leave during the reception, we had about 7 kids there and Athina organized for babysitters to keep the kids entertained.. these ladies we amazing! kids loved them! they even put all the kids to sleep in rooms so that the parents could party and the babysitters stayed until 4:30 AM!!

there also is a full playground for the kids, with swings, slides and all that fun stuff.. kids really loved that part! and so did the parents!

we had the restaurant for as long as we wanted.none if that kicking guests out at 3:00 AM!! my people can party and we took full advantage of no curfew :)

if anyone is considering getting married in Samos, i strongly suggest doing it at the Doryssa, they honestly took my idea for a nice wedding and turned it into the most amazing event myself and our guests had ever attented...and like i said my guests are big travelers and sometimes difficult and this was truly impressive!

i could go on for pages and pages about how fantastic this hotel and it's staff is, especially Athina, she's a dream maker!! i recomend this hotel to anyone from couples vacation to family to a wedding.. really it's the best place on the whole Island, and probably one of the best in world!

i don't have pictures yet... but soon i will post them

Room Tip: ask for a sea view, or ask for the village..both great options

Doryssa Bay Resort is the number one accommodation in entire Samos island. Even if you will be staying in one of their bungalows you will feel like living in a small charming Greek village. The property is just laid by the sea and is in short walking distance to Pythagorion town of the island. You may not have the chance of waking every morning with the birds singing in your busy life.

We stayed in Doryssa mid May 2012 for 5 days with our 20 months old toddler, and had a faboulous time. The regular (hotel) rooms are not too big but very clean and efficient. The food (buffet styled breakfast and diner) is excellent: no need to go for in the village. Pythagorion Harbour is a footstep away (10 min walk). The staff is very friendly and always willing to serve you up to the best.
One thing: when we arrived the mixture of Scandinavian, Dutch, French, Germans etcetera felt very okay, especially the respectfull way the buffet was taken. After 4 days the Itialians (Club Viagi?) arrived and the atmosphere completely changed: respectfullness Italians (towards other guests) and stressed up staff with only one mission left: pleasing the Italians.
We really enjoyed our stay, would love to come back, but before we go, we will check out the Italian holiday calendar!

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony, there was a wonderful breeze from the Aegean.
