Great location, comfortly close to the airport and right next to the beach. The beach is excellent, pebble stone and then sand when you get in to the water. The water quality is very good, clean and crystal clear. The beach is very well maintained and attended to by the hotel staff. Nice with the generous sun beds. Ok, they cost 3 E / day, but thats not a gigantic sum of money. If you don´t wish to pay, there are others – more simple- sun chairs to fetch for free next to the beach.
It can be quite windy at the beach, but I thought that was rather nice as the heat then gets less intense. It was warm winds when we visited in june.
Nice and modern rooms, but quite small. Big bathroom, though. Very good cleaning and new towels every day. We had a pool view room, and it was quite a lot of noise from the lounge bar until late at night some of the evenings (strange for a family style hotel?).
We had booked full board and the food was ok – nothing more, nothing less. Great breakfast, but then pretty much the same dishes for both lunch and dinner. You quickly get bored, but it´s an easy way to keep the kids happy and keep some stable family mood because of the predictibility of the meals. Maybe the hotel could work on the menus a little bit, though.
Beautifully kept hotel premises with gardens and small alleys and squares.
Small pool area, quickly crowded. But why use the crowded pool when there is such a fantastic sea right next to you? Our family used the beach and the sun beds there as a ”base” and then took some quick pool trips from there occasionaly.
Regarding the staff, it was generally very nice and proffessional. I specially appreciated the restaurant staff. However, in the bars (the pool bar and the lounge bar), the staff was quite uninterested in the full board guests. It was pretty much a quick grin and hand out the food/beverage with the elbow. Nothing rude or inproffessional, just the feeling the guest gets. So some of these persons might need to work some on their attitude.
The conclusion is that Doryssa is a good hotel with some minor issues to work on. I felt Samos was a very beautiful island and the people there were very nice to tourists. They are open, welcoming and easy to talk to. Of course they are proud of their island, and I can recommend the city of Pythagorion with more varied restaurants and also to to a trip with Captain Andreas and his tame goat (!) to the island of Samipoula (fantastic, sandy beaches).

As a couple we used to travel mostly on fly&drive basis, moving around all the time, exploring, so we were a bit scared of what to expect on our first vacation with a almost 8 months old baby. However, Doryssa Seaside Resort staff made an effort to take care of everything so great, that it was an awesome experience for all 3 with no worries and stress whatsoever.

Reception and check-in:
Perfect greeting with smiles and since we arrived much to early to have our room ready, the beautiful and kind Anastasia gave us clear instructions on where to leave luggage, get our beach towels, go to the beach, restaurant, ... And the room was anyways ready 2 hours before the official check-in, so we had a nice and full first day and all others, too. Water heater and baby bed were provided immediatelly in the room, both brand new and clean.

Rooms:
We stayed at the hotel in order to be close to all the facilites.
~ For an evening silence take a room with seaview/pool, since rooms on the back of the hotel overlook the amphitheatre where evening/night music events occur and if your baby isn't a disco late night dancer, you would want a room away from that noise. Check if your room has a balcony, otherwise you might be forced to an early sleep together with your baby. ;)
~ There is a device for keeping the mosquitos away in every room, though you have to buy the tablets for it yourself (in the village shop).
~ Rooms are cleaned perfectly, with plenty of towels and doryssa shampoos/bath gel/body milk. The cleaning ladies are doing a superb job indeed!

Beach:
~ big beach towels: you get them on the first day at the beach house (baby also gets one) and you can change them every two days,
+++ the best thing (and a rare one in Greece!) is a nice huge lawn between the beach and the swimming pool/hotel, which offers plenty of tree shade throughout the day. We put the big towels on the ground and made a big playground for our crawler. Plus you can take sunchairs free of charge and use them on the lawn too. Just do not forget to put them back afterwards, as sadly quite a lot of illiterate guests did when we were there,
++ the beach is nice pebbly and sandy with perfect access for children, the sea is crystal clear though was a bit cold when we were there (21 degr but getting warmer), still our 8-monther swam like a fish in it, so no problem there.
~ beach sunbeds will cost you 6€/2 beds + umbrella, and have a callbutton to the pool bar,
~ from what we observed the water sports offer is ok, water skiing was quite popular.

Swimming pools:
~ one for swimmers (max depth 3m), maybe a tad small for the capacity of guests the resort accommodates though suprisingly never too crowded,
~ one for kids/babies: great because of large sunumbrellas which offer shade to the baby pool through the day,
--- the most annoying thing regarding the baby pool caused the guests really: eventhough it is clearly written on infoboards that babies have to wear swimming diapers, lots of parents did not respect that rule, so once a day there was a "small baby accident" as the pool guy kindly told us when they had to close the kids pool and clean the water... If you forget to bring the swimming diapers, you can buy them in the "old village" shop or in Pythagorion town.

Restaurants:
~ in order to serve all-inclusive and halfboard guests accordingly, the first eat in the hotel restaurant and the hb guests in the village restaurant, however both are within the complex of main building and we did not see any difference between the staff attitude towards hb or allinclusive guests,
~ both are neat and spotless, though we found the village one (hb guests) nicer and cosier,
~ they both offer same food,
+++ we were on halfboard and recommend it sincerely, since the pool bar (Thea's coffee shop) and the Asterias beach restaurant which is also situated within the resort, offer really yummy food with different flavours than the htl restaurants. For us it was nice to explore the greek cuisine in different places, so once we changed dinner to lunch in htl restaurant and ate dinner in Pythagorion. The change dinner/lunch has to be announced at reception till 11am same day at the latest. All in all, tasty and wonderful food in the htl restaurants, Thea's caffe pool bar (all daily specials are awesome) and Asterias, so try them all.
~ We could easily find something for our daughter in htl restaurant (lots of vegetables, meat, side dishes, fruit, salads... and for the sweet tooth quite a palette of pastry and icecream),
+++ the shinning star of every morning and evening were definitely Jannis, the always smiling, welcoming and helpful village restaurant manager (maitre d'hotel) with his professional staff. Kalliopi, Stavroula and Manolis were the three we had been in contact with the most, and they were the best. Chatting friendly with us when we wanted to, giving us privacy when we were not chattery and being genuinely kind to our baby, making her laugh, providing us with hot water for her food, etc.
Except from the lady who was supposed to be assistant maitre d'hotel and was cold and seemed like she was actually annoyed with the guests and was snapping to personnel, everyone else was firendly, hardworking and doing their work professionaly. Thumbs up!
- As we already made a suggestion live, it would be nice to have a "live omelette" making with optional ham, cheese, veggies, etc. at breakfast,
- it was annoying that all dishes were not equipped with cards with names of the dish beside the big serving pots, especially since it is so thing to take care of this,
- some of the guests did not know they have to wait to be seated at bfast/dinner, so a counter or at least a kind note somewhere visible would be nice in order to avoid double occupation of the same table on the terrace.

Other:
~ kids' playground in the resort is nice, due to the fence it is closed and safe, has tree shade and artificial grass on the floor, so it is quite nice also for small babies to crawl around,
~ one of the tourist agencies has popular kids mascots (Bamse&friends) in the resort, which walk around and accompany animation events for kids. The mascots are really nice, and the young animators too, except for the red clown who has a long bored face through the day, looks totally uninterested when in contact with children. He performs well however at the short clowns evening show. Otherwise animators seem warm, kidsfriendly and involved in what they're supposed to do,
~ when you head to the town: sidewalk on the road to the Pythagorion town is quite bad, so it can be a bumpy ride for a baby in stroller plus in the night the road lights are poor, so watch your step (taxi doryssa-town costs 4€-5€, reception will kindly call it for you, in the town they're parked on the main street).

All in all we spent a wonderful holiday at Doryssa thanks to all the staff (visible and those working behind the scenes - gardners, cleaners, cooks, laundry, service, management and all others), nice resort architecture, greenery and location. Would recommend it for sure!

Room Tip: For quiet evenings and a fresh breeze choose a room with pool/seaview if in hotel.

This is a lovely place to stay, the staff super polite and helpful - all of them! The rooms and whole place is spotless and cleaned every day. The onsite bars, pools and facilities are everything you could want. I particularly liked the complimentary beach towels and tons of sunbeds around the pool and along the beach. The only criticism is that people reserve the sunbeds early in the morning despite the notices saying not to do it and the beds stay empty for a lot of the time with towels on them. It isn't the cheapest place to stay, so I was surprised at the number of families staying there, however it is well geared up to accommodate them. It is a short walk to the town, about 20 minutes, or 4 euros by taxi. The little restaurants and bars are lovely and well worth going to. We hired a car from just along the road and explored the whole island, the mountain villages are beautiful and well worth visiting, but the windy roads in the hills are a bit scary. I would definitely recommend going here for a Holiday, the air con in the hotel room was the best I have encountered and sleep quality was superb, we had a brilliant time here.
The Hotel arrange a Greek night and it is well worth going to it, even if it is your first night there. Also the Pegasus just along the road is lovely, nice people, great food and super cheap.

My partner and I stayed at the Doryssa Bay Hotel for 7 days at the end of May and were both very impressed by the standard of the accommodation, service and facilities. Pythagoria itself is lovely – a small harbour town with plenty of restaurants to choose from. It’s very close to the airport, but there only seemed to be a couple of flights per day and the noise did not bother us. The walk from the hotel into Pythagoria town is about 15 mins. The beach is either stoney or shingley, although there are other parts of the island where you will find sand. From the hotel there is direct access to the beach where free sun loungers are provided.

The rooms are a good size, modern and geared towards the Scandinavian visitors (simple, white and square!). The bathroom was fairly small but importantly very clean and without the typical Greek shower curtain. Clean towels were available daily and the balcony was clean with table and chairs. We were B&Bers (many families opted for all-inclusive) and there was a really good selection of foods and always something different everyday, even just for b&bers like us. The staff are helpful and friendly on every level. The main pool was a great size and very clean, the lifeguard was wonderful – so friendly and informative. There is also a pool side bar serving hot snacks as well as drinks. Water aerobics takes place at noon everyday and there are other activities, like football, for the children and adults to get involved in. I had a wonderful massage in the hotel Spa – I would certainly recommend treating yourself to a treatment whilst you’re there. (I paid €60 for a full body massage and received 30 mins extra free.)

In Pythagoria town there are a lot of restaurants to choose from, all serving traditional Greek cuisine from gyros to moussaka, but we must mention our absolute favourite: Dionysos. The food here really was special, topped off by excellent service from our wonderful waiter, Yannis. A new restaurant on the harbour, Aroma Mesogio is also worth a visit – there is a second floor balcony from which you can enjoy some lovely views as well as the good food!

Aside from eating and relaxing, there’s not much else to do in Pythagoria, however it’s quite easy to get around the island –plenty of bicycle/moped/car hire shops (a small car would cost around €30 per day.) We opted to use the local bus service, which stops right outside the hotel and costs less than €4 euros for a return to Samos town (which is currently undergoing some restoration so lots of dug up roads which spoils the traditional Greek feel at the moment). From Samos town it is also possible to bus to other parts of the island, like Kakori. Check the timetable carefully as the buses are not that frequent (this might have been because of the time of year we travelled).

Overall, a truly lovely hotel in a nice spot. We did not love the island as much as we loved Kefalonia (where there are more things to do and more people our age) however if you want great food and nice place to relax with some traditional Greek touches then Samos is perfect.

Room Tip: Some reviewers recommend upgrading to the village rooms, but our standard double room in the main ho...

We spent 3 days at Doryssa Seaside Resort early June 2014. It is a beautiful resort simulating a Greek Village, but having a distinct Scandinavian inner appearance. The guests appeared mainly Scandinavian and a lot were young families with little kids. It seemed that full board packages were offered by Scandinavian travel agencies. Activities were geared towards kids: this hotel is really a kid paradise.
Very clean and well-maintained with a fabulous beach with excellent accommodations. It appears that when the wind in the Aegean is from the north, the weather is good, which makes the southern exposed beach calm. Instead when the weather is rainy, the predominant wind is from the south. Unfortunately just before and during our stay, the weather was unusually poor. We have been many times to Greece during this period of the year, and we had never experienced such poor conditions.
From a US based opinion, we did not find the main building accommodations to be very practical and convenient. Our room was small and had limited space for suitcases. The air condition was too strong for us and there was no control for it in the room. So instead we left the door to the balcony open, which automatically disabled the cooling but left the lights on. The airport is close by, and (noisy) jets can pass close overhead. It is not a busy airport though. The walking space around one side of the bed was rather small to avoid hitting the wall mounted TV (for night-time bathroom visits), and the selection of outlets (for a laptop) is limited as well. The rating of the hotel is a prime 5 star, and the rates are accordingly. The washing basin is in the room, and the shower is together with the toilet. Showering causes a wet floor in front of the toilet (it becomes an unavoidable “water ballet”).
The grounds of this resort are amazing. It looks like a (newly built) Greek village with a “platia” with a café and Greek church. One evening per week there is a Greek night with a barbecue and Greek dancing, something you should not miss while being there.
However, at night the pathways in the village in particular are not well illuminated, and you really have to watch out for the steps that are in the path ways. In fact even the lighting in front of the main building is not good, because lamps are close to the ground (on the grassy area), but since light shines up as well, they tend to blind you. Fortunately, there are no steps at that location. So, be very cautious when walking around during the night time.
While the food is of excellent quality but pricy, food can also be obtained in the village (the “Parallalia”), which is less than ½ mile (800 m) away. An easy walking trip is to the castle of Pythagorio. Open until 3:00PM it explains its history very well.
Overall: if you are a young family with little kids, this is absolute paradise. For adults and you care about a nice beach nearby it is good, but you should consider other lower cost options as well.

Room Tip: The room in the main building with a view towards the beach are small. Maybe avoid?

Dear Guests,

Thank you for your nice evaluation about our hotel. Regarding the main building standard rooms we follow a minimal style decorational motive, though in our village rooms the style is more traditional and they are more spacious. We also would like to inform you that the air condition can be opened or closed in each room individually, and every guest may choose the desired temperature from a device placed on the wall. The balcony doors have to be closed in order to open the air condition, but of course it is possible to turn it off when the doors are closed.

We are happy that you had a relaxing holiday here in Samos and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you once again in Doryssa Seaside Resort.

The reviews on Tripadvisor got us a little nervous as some people had complained about the food and service. However, we found the hotel staff and service excellent. The hotel and our room was very, very clean. Each day, the housekeeping did an excellent job cleaning the bathroom and the room. We were very impressed with the cleanliness. The animation/entertainment team was simply amazing - each night they had a different show including singing and magic. The 80s classics singing show was the best! Bamse the magician was really funny and entertaining.
Room: We had a room in the village part of the hotel which was extraordinary and a beautiful experience. Definitely recommend!
Food: The food was very good. Thumbs up to the chef and his team! The desserts were the best from all the hotels we have ever visited in a package holiday. Some dishes were repeated every day but they were so good that we didn't mind. In addition to these, each day they had some new varieties, including those from Greek and World cuisines. Breakfast did not have a made to order eggs station which was a disappointment, would expect that in a five star hotel. Loved the Greek dishes such as feta pastry and greek salad for breakfast.
The location is perfect, a ten minute walk from the beautiful town of Pythagoria and located on a nice beach. You have to pay for the sunbeds (€3 per sunbed) but it is worth it.
Island tour: We took an island bus tour with Arke, our guides Patrick was well informed and the tour covered a lot. Worth the price!
Samos: We rented a car from Enterprise for three days and explored some of the other beaches and sights. Would highly recommend this island and both the Psili Ammos beaches. Karvolassi and Kokkari were beautiful towns. Also rented a scooter for one day from Nicos Rentals. Both good rental agencies.

A very big disappointment about Doryssa Seaside Resort was the system of separating half board and all inclusive guests in two different restaurants. We were on the half board arrangement. On our first day there, we accidentally went to the all inclusive restaurant on our first day at the hotel. There was no steward to show us to a table so we found a table and served ourselves the food from the buffet. A steward came and took our order for our alcoholic drinks and asked us our room number. We had already served ourselves sodas from the self serve machine. After ten minutes, the manager of the hotel came and informed us were were not supposed to be in that restaurant as we were half board guests, and they charged us €5 each for the drinks we had already taken from the soda machines. The manager was very polite. However it made us realise that at the time of check in to the hotel, the front desk did not explain everything properly.

At the time of check-in, we were also told that we could switch our dinner to lunch if we informed the reception before hand. On the last day at the hotel, we decided to eat lunch instead of dinner and informed the reception at 1pm. We were given a go ahead for the lunch however were told that next time we should inform them before 12noon. This was not informed to us before hand during the check in. Since it was our last day we did not argue about this with the reception.

Our biggest disappointment was - in the half board restaurant, for each meal, most of the dishes did not have a name card. The serving containers were huge and difficult to open and close, so each time you had to open it just to see what was inside. Even if you could see the dish, you did not know what the food was - whether vegetarian or meat or the name! This was extremely annoying! Especially since we had seen the all inclusive restaurant which was much nicer, cleaner and very meticulously displayed the names of each dish and even had a separate vegetarian counter. The service was also better in the all inclusive restaurant than the half board restaurant.
We thought it was extremely unfair to separate the half board and all inclusive guests. As a half board guest, we were paying in full for our breakfast and dinner. Yes it is true we were paying less by one meal in comparison but still paying for our two meals. Therefore, I do not see the reason for the difference in quality and service between the two restaurants.

We were not very happy that we weren't given adequate information about all the restaurants. There was also no information in the room of the timings of the meals. Half board guests do not deserve lesser quality as we are still paying for two meals and quality for those two meals - This was very, very unfair. Especially since Arke (our booking agent) did not even give us the option of choosing all inclusive for this hotel, else we would have obviously chosen all inclusive. We can safely say that it was unfair as we experienced both restaurants. Most guests would not even know the difference.

We are very happy with Doryssa and would definitely go back except for the fact that the management could take the above into consideration and not treat half board guests unfairly.

Room Tip: The village part of the hotel was amazing! Definitely recommend a village room for a different exper...

Dear Guests,

Greetings from Doryssa Seaside Resort. We were pleased to hear that you enjoyed your holidays here with us.

Considering the treatment of the All inclusive and Half board clients we can reassure you that there is no discrimination what so ever in favour of anybody.

All our personnel is doing the best possible to serve and please all our guests equaly.

The restaurant separation was done only for practical reasons and that is because it wouldn't be easy to serve properly 600 people in one restaurant. The food served in the buffet is exactly the same in both restaurants and the service is provided by the same personnel in round shifts.

We will be happy to welcome you again in Doryssa Seaside Resort for your holidays in the near future.

I am about to book my second trip to this hotel. Last year I was recommended to visit the island of Samos by a customer of mine and I was not disappointed. Doryssa is the only up scale hotel on the island and at first I was a little worried of what I would find. This was the first time I booked with an independently run resort. I travel quite a bit for work across the US and Canada mostly but because I am often in the US I bring my wife along and then we travel to several different places in the Caribbean, Hawaii and even Europe. I am use to the large 5 star chains like Sandals, Iberostar, Starwood and the Fairmount. In all honesty I was amazed at how well run this hotel was. The rooms were spotless, the staff was professional and very kind. Also I really enjoyed the food. Like any hotel the a la carte menu is much better than the buffet. The pool area was always clean and they always had plenty of staff to assist you and serve you food and drinks. During my stay (6 days) I must of had at least 8 Cretan Salads. They were amazing! My wife and I do not have any children but the kids at the pool and on the beach did not bother us. There are many activities organized by the hotel to keep them busy. Every day there are different activities for the guests but my favourite was the Greek night. It takes place in the village side of the hotel right in the center of the small town. The food at the event is amazing and after that night I became the master of the Drunken Greek Dance. What a blast! I highly recommend this hotel and the island of Samos for anyone that wants to relax and really experience the Greek life. I stated many Pros to this hotel and in all fairness I have to state at least one con. The only con I have is that you have to pay for the beach chairs on the actual beach. I have travelled to many places in Greece and this is often the norm. The reason I believe this is done is because many of the locals visit the beach and the hotel does not want over crowding. To be honest I did not mind it that much it allowed us to meet some of the locals and we even got invited out for dinner to a small city called Kokkari. The only thing I would change this time around is that I am going to book a villa in the village section of the hotel. It is amazing. It has a church, cafe shop and even a small market. All it is missing is the little Greek old ladies wearing all black to sit on the steps of each Villa. Doryssa we will see you in August!

Room Tip: Get a ocean view or something in the village.

Dear sir,

Thank you so much for the wonderful review about our hotel. It is always a pleasure to hear that our guests enjoyed their stay with us and had a relaxing holiday. All our personnel is very polite and service minded and they always provide their best to our guests. As you mentioned our guests can enjoy their privacy in our premises though there are many children around due to the different activities organized and also due to the facilities and magnitude of the hotel. Greek night is a spectacular event that we organize every week and all our guests enjoy at most.

Pressuming that we charge the sun beds at the beach because we have outsource visititors is an option but there is also another reason. We are actually do not own the beach, we rent it from the Municipality, so we charge that small amount of money in order to cover that cost. On top of that we provide towel service and service call button on the umbrellas free of charge.

We are happy to hear that you will visit us again in August. We wish you a nice summer till then and we are expecting you in Doryssa Seaside Resort.
