Owner description: 4000ft long Aquaduct Tunnel 'often compared to the Wonders of the World' as it is one of only two tunnels in history that was excavated from both ends and met in the middle with success (and this was in 6thCenturyBC - before any kind of mapping or surveying)!

“Two Strikes and we were OUT!”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

Read up on the Eupalinos Origma and were looking forward to being awed: I'm sure we would have been but, even though I told our driver that it was Monday and archaeological sites across Greece are closed, he insisted and, sure enough, closed. The next day we hired a driver and, boy were we disappointed to go back only to find it closed. We read and reread the signs hanging on the gate: yep, should have been opened. It sounded like a good idea, but, as we found out at the next site, because not even the travel agency of the bus driver could explain it, there are rolling strikes in Greece by the state workers and Eupalinos Tunnel was chosen to be the victim instead of the Heraion.

Its hard to imagine how they managed to penetrate the mountain from two sides (more than 1000 m. long) with the means and technigues of that time.Really admirable

a bit claustrophopic but worth doing. Amazing how they managed to do this without all the devices we take for granted

“Amazing”

Unique tunnel high in the mountains. One of the great experiences of my all trips. Definetely a MUST SEE, the rest you will see by yourself. Don't miss it. At first day we were late because it closes at 3pm (summer) so we were unable to see it. Only for this tunnel we came next day once more -this time earlier- but it definetely worths it!

“History itself”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

Very narrow for big boys :) Only 100m available to visitors, but you get the idea, how this tunnel (actually aqueduct) was built and the amount of effort.
