“excellent hotel.”

we stayed one week at the end of May. we were not sure whether to choose la darsena or mare, at the end we chose Mare cause of its proximity to the train station. That's was a good choice since all the excursion were accessible by train. the room was clean and spacious for a European hotel. the food was absolutely amazing. There was one or two days that I did not like what they served. The staff is wonderful. Sergio and valentina went out of their way to help us meet or needs. they printed train schedules, directions to sites.. overall we were happy with our stay. we planned our own excursions and saved money on doing an orgaised tour. the last night we spend in rome. we were able to see a lot in rome considering that we only had a day. train to rome cost 30 euros each one way. we stayed at a hotel juts by the train station to cut on cost of a cab. and then the next day we took a shuttle from the train station to the airport for 7 euros each.

We stayed at Hotel Mare for the week of May 18th and have started a new fund for next year's trip.
Three years ago I stayed at the sister hotel La Darsena. I would go back to both in a heart beat, but I think Hotel Mare will win out on our next trip.
The location is absolutely beautiful and convenient.
The staff..... where do I start with the staff. I have never excperienced such kindness and eagerness to help. We had a real sense of friendship. Angelica, Valentina and Lu Ma La at the front desk are fantastic. They made such an effort to understand our bumbling Italian when we asked for directions, etc. They never got impatient.
Sergio and Mohamed, our wait staff, were phenomenal. They would get you anything you asked for. (we mostly asked for more wine) The food was always amazing, each day better than the last.
Our room was clean and amazing. If you are travelling with 3 or more people, ask for room 236. We had a balcony overlooking the pool and the castle, plus a terrace looking over the sea and the boardwalk. It was very picturesque.
A huge factor in our decision to go back to Hotel Mare next year was the incredible staff.

My wife and I are just coming back from a 2 weeks in Italy, 12 days were spent at the hotel Mare. The location is just perfect, close to the beach, to the old town center and the train station. Friendly staff and very helpfull, giving good informations and tour tips. As far the food, we had always a choice of pasta entries or soup, pasta, meat, sea foods or fish as main course and at dinner a surprise dessert, always made with fresh local products. For those planning to take this tour with Air Transat, all the main tourist attractions and main cities are easily accessible by train at a very low price. You could take the train and get to Napoli, Salerno for a few euros and from Salerno you have acces to ferries and boat that gives you access to the Almafitan Coast (Amalfi, Positano, ect...) and Capri Island.
We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Mare and are strongly recommend this hotel, you will think you are with family.

Room Tip: always ask for the sea side.

My husband and I just returned from an Air Transat vacation to Hotel Mare. Yes, it's at least 4 hours from Rome so be prepared for the bus ride. Overall, it was very nice ans we had a great time! The hotel is quiet and the view from the room is stunning. The staff is also very friendly.

The food is tasty and again of good value. There were no fuss about getting box lunches on days where we were out on excursions.

It is true that the beds are twin beds put together and that the mattresses are firm. The bathroom was nice and the entire hotel, including the rooms, were clean.

This hotel is located approx. 15 mins from the train station. If you tour around on your own, you might want to learn the word 'ritorno' that way you have your tickets on hand to come back; sometimes, the offices of the train stations are closed and we found that the bus tickets are not necessarily sold where you'd expect them to be sold.

Perhaps, people who would prefer to have staff more fluent in French or in English should consider going to the Darsena (as it appears that more Canadians go there); however know that we were understood.

For a European vacation, this is very good value.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view, it's worth it!

We have been to this hotel 3 years in a row and found this to be a great deal. The sea view from our hotel was magnificent and memorable. The staff was pleasant, friendly and offered good advice on places to see. The room was very clean and comfortable. Most importantly , it was quite. This hotel offers free parking and you can come and go as you please. Just be aware that the gate closes at midnight.
This is a great place to stay as your center point. The meals are reasonable and if you decide to site see or go to the beach for the day, they will pack a lunch for you. What hotel offers you that? Everything is within walking distance and if you don't feel like going out, the hotel offers a bar area where you can have a few drinks and relax. The staff have always been very friendly and that's why we go back.
We will be going back to Hotel Mare this September again, and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to visit the Amafi coast.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money and book the sea view room....stunning.

for the price it's a great hotel , the room was very clean, the pool very good, the beach of agropoli was exceptionel, sand and beautiful water. the food was just ok , good quality but it's not the toscane food, it's the napolitan food with no variety , always pizza and pasta , after some days you will be happy to eat elsewhere. i bought a forfait for 2 weeks with air transat, the hotel is ok for the price, the personnel of the hotel has no information to give to you, a lot of them never speak english or french, it's a problem when you need information . but stefano one of the young boy who works there is very funny. the city of agropoli is very ordinary except the old town with the citadel. the store was often close in the city as the trips periode was already finish . in fact if you want to visit the amafitanaine coast it's better to have an hotel at salerno than agropoli, you will be just beside the boat for the coats. also hope transat will offer the fly to napoli rather than rome, it take 4 long hours in bus between rome and agropoli, it's very hard after 8 hours in plane. finally the hotel is in a better spot than the darsena, hotel mare is nearest the old town and very near the train station.

Where to start with this review. We mainly booked it because of the decent reviews on Tripadvisor. We have visited many places in Italy but never been to the Campania area before. We wanted to stay in a town that had a rail line so we could visit places nearby. The hotel is indeed in a wonderful position by the sea, but such a pity that it is poorly looked after and managed. The hotel sent their mini bus to pick us up at Naples airport and they were there spot on time for our arrival and transported us the hour and a half to the hotel. When we pulled up our hearts sank – it looks awful from the outside, desperately needs painting, new blinds and sunshades and some plants. The reception was dull and in need of an upgrade. We had a room with a seaview, which is a must. It was clean but sparse, no pictures, the curtain was hanging down, there was no shelf in the shower to put your shower things but most importantly no safe. The TV was tiny but it didn’t matter as we couldn’t get any English speaking channels – we do like to see the news when we are away to keep up to date with things back home. As we also couldn’t buy an English newspaper in the town we felt quite cut off. The toilet seat was broken – and the maid must have seen that every day. The room was cleaned every day and we had new towels every day. Not sure about the sheets but they weren’t changed every day as we noticed the same one with a hole in it several days running – might even have been the whole 10 days that we were there! We walked to the town of Agropoli, which took about 15 minutes and everything was shut so we wondered how we would manage for 10 days. Later in the evening we went down to town for dinner and the place was different again, the shops were open, the cafes were doing a roaring trade outside and the place had a great atmosphere. We were woken at 8.30 the next day by the maids trying to come in to clean so after that we took to putting up the ‘do not disturb’ sign. We went for breakfast the first day and it was so awful we didn’t bother again. I can’t comment on the other meals as we ate out. There are some lovely restaurants in town but the best for us was il Gambero.

The first two nights we were there, there were fireworks at 12.30 at night and music till 1.00 – thankfully it didn’t happen again.

The staff were very young, inexperienced and not very friendly and some were even downright sullen. None of them seemed to be very happy in their jobs and I think that must be down to the management of the place – or ‘the boss’ as they kept referring to Luana. Now I’m assuming that Luana is in charge but we never saw her, she kept herself in her office the whole time and never ventured out to speak to guests or make them welcome. The only time we saw her was when we were sat in reception waiting for the mini bus to take us to Naples airport. She walked past us to speak to her father who was driving us, but didn’t pass a word with us. We got used to the hotel but were disappointed in the bad management. Just before we left for the airport I decided to use the Ladies toilet – the soap dispenser was empty, as was the paper towel dispenser and the blow hand dryer didn’t work – it’s the little things that count in a hotel and show that the management want to look after their guests.

Having said all of the above we had a great time. Can’t understand why the Brits are not flocking to the area in their droves – the weather was in the 30s in mid-September, you can have some great food and there are lots of interesting places to visit. We found some great places to eat and we visited some good spots. We went to Paestum to see the temples and to go on the beach, we went to Santa Maria Castellabate, Salerno and Amalfi.

So Hotel Mare – buck up your relationship with your customers, give the place a once-over and it could be fabulous because of it’s situation on the sea edge and close to town and the railway station.

Room Tip: Make sure you get one with a balcony and seaview
