“Gem on the Seashore”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

Stayed here for three nights in September 2013 and it was fabulous. Great value for very chic & spacious accommodations. We booked online and were pleasantly surprised when we shown to our beautifully appointed apartment. I got to cook my first meal in Italy here and it was fantastic. Giovanni & Maria were very gracious hosts. We'll be back!

paid 60 euros for a 4 person apartment per night but there were only 2 of us. the small seaside village was buzzing with locals in winter. we visited during off season when most if not all hotel, b&b were closed for business. the village was beautiful and people were friendly, it was more charming when there was no tourist. we drove along the sea cliff coast and had no solid plan on where we were going, felt tired and dropped by this village. everything for summer tourist was closed, great. a helpful staff in Anchor Bar talked to a customer who happened to be the owner of a b&b opposite, he said they were not open for business but he had some people staying for new year eve, and there were rooms for us. he showed us two apartments, no sea view but really spacious with kitchenette. we didn't have much choice as it was getting dark so we went for it. we stayed for two nights, all restaurants were closed so we bought food from local stores and cooked ourselves a healthy delicious italian dinner. there were two double bedrooms, a dinning room, a kitchenette and a bathroom with bath and shower. i could imagine the apartment to be very popular in summer when it was in full operation. we arrived on the door without booking and advanced notice, so really couldn't expect too much. the apartment was not fully cleaned, the double bed had been made but when opened, there were sands and body hair, a lot of them on the bed sheets; and the toilet seat was not cleaned either, there was cigarette ash on the dinner table and bathtub, there were pillows but no pillow case. there were no staff apart from the owner himself. so we just did whatever necessary ourselves, we pull out the seemed-to-be cleaned bed sheet from the two single beds in another room to make the double bed, the owner did give us clean pillow cases and a blanket. the apartment was very big but the heating was insufficient, it took a long time to warm up. the first night was very cold, so i asked for an extra blanket, the second night was ok. everything in the apartment was in good working order, but there was no tv, no wifi in room during winter. the apartment was aimed for 4 people but there was no sitting room, just a dinning table and 4 plastic chairs, one or two nights maybe ok but no more than that. when checking out, the owner showed us another better apartment, it was breathtakingly gorgeous, simple but chic, with vault ceiling in each room and tastefully decorated sitting room and a sea view balcony. we would have loved to stay in that room for a whole week. breakfast was very basic, just bread rolls and croissant.
overall, we were last minute walk in customers, the place was not supposed to open for business, we were just happy to find a decent room for a couple of days, we would still recommend the apartment, it was a good place with good location and friendly owner. i am sure it will be properly cleaned and serviced should we booked in advanced. the trade off was we had the whole beach to ourselves, no tourist, only the lovely locals, shops and cafe opened as usual as it was a really lively village full of sociable locals. there was a few trendy bars that opened all year round including new year eve and new year day. we even enjoyed an unexpected spectacular 20 minutes firework display on the sea front on new year eve. i would recommend visiting this village off season rather than in summer. the beauty of the place and the people were just much more authentic.

Room Tip: apartments with balcony and sea view.

Myself, wife and baby girl have just returned from a wonderful stay at Palazzo Iaquinto. The apartment was of the highest standard and very clean. The welcome from Giovanni and his family made our stay one we won't forget, nothing was too much trouble. The view from our apartment was beautiful,by day a view of the beach and by night sounds of the relaxed night life below. The apartment was equipped with every we needed for our baby and if it was not there Giovanni would provide it.We look forward to returning to Castellabate made all the more special by Palazzo Iaquinto.

We stayed here for a week in September; our third trip to S Maria, but our first to Palazzo Iaquinto. The rooms were spotlessly clean and spacious with a great double shower in the bathroom. The Palazzo is located right on the beach with a great view of the nightly passeggiata and was a great choice for a couple with one or two children. The staff were friendly and helpful. We hope to return!

Room Tip: We stayed in Bella- very light and sunny with a large bathroom.

Beautiful B&B ..... right in the centre of town with great, friendly service. Very elegant and clean with all facilities we needed. Even a tourist info desk.
We were guests at my sisters wedding and the English lady organising was based there to. Nothing was too much and we were made so welcome. We were 2 couples so shared a suite and saved. My mum has booked it next year for Easter for the family.

I booked through Expedia to stay with my wife and mother in law in the Lamia apartment within this hotel. I was given a rate by Expedia of Eur150 and received an email confirmation for the booking. Two days later the hotel emailed me demanding an increase in the rate to Eur215 a night. A hotel that tries to strong arm the room rate up on guests having confirmed a booking is extradordinarily unprofessional and I have now booked elsewhere with one of the many better hotels in the region.

We greatly appreciated Palazzo Iaquinto during our holiday in June. The apartments are very nice, large and well equipped, the sea is under your window, the service is excellent. I hope we will back soon.
