“Even Better the Second Time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

We chose to stay at Grand Hotel Due Golfi a second time after having a wonderful experience 2 years ago. We weren't disappointed. While the rooms are first rate, the breakfast outstanding (don't forget to try the fresh squeezed orange juice squeezed while you watch) and the location is perfect for us, it really is the people that brought us back. From the moment we arrived until we left the front desk staff was outstanding. They always had the answer and if they didn't, they found it for us. I had two (2) Trip Advisor pins with me and awarded both of them at this hotel. I only wish I had more because all front desk staff were exceptional. I shouldn't forget the morning wait staff either. They do a wonderful job of keeping up the breakfast room. The Due Golfi shuttle is a great service but you can also get the bus right out the front door to Amalfi or Sorrento. There are some wonderful local restaurants right in the area within walking distance. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: You would really want to have a view of Naples Bay with a balcony to enjoy a glass of wine at sunset...

We had read many good reviews and could only believe that our visit was going to be good. We were not disappointed, the staff were very helpful the restaurant staff very friendly and professional. The hotel was of a high standard and had fabulous views. The gala dinners were excellent. Keep up the good work. We would love to return.

The hotel looks impressive and the views and scenery are outstanding. In my experience, the hotel receptionist was quite unfriendly and arrogant and the restaurant staff were efficient but definitely not welcoming, the food is average. The lunchtime snacks are very limited, the pool is very small for the number of guests and there is nothing at all entertainment wise. The bar has wonderful views but has hardly anyone in it and there is no atmosphere, which is a real shame. The hotel would benefit from refurbishment but the main improvement would be more pleasant staff to make guests feel welcome and not as though it is an inconvenience, the occasional smile would be unusual! l have stayed in many hotels in Sorrento and all over Italy and this is the worst with regard to staff friendliness.

Room Tip: Must pay extra for sea view rooms at back of hotel as rooms at side and front of hotel back onto bus...

Dear Madame,
Thank you for your feedback regarding your experience with us the past year.
I am very sorry we weren’t able to empathize with you, as the friendliness and the professionalism of our staff is one of our strengths and very appreciated by many previews reviewers.
I will personally look into improving what you thought is one of our fault.
Best Regards

I have to say that I was really excited to go to this hotel because of the high ratings, but it was a disappointment. The view was great, but the negatives outweighed the positives at this hotel.
POSITIVES:
-Reception/Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful.
-Restaurant staff was very friendly and professional.
-The view was great.
-The large shower was nice.
-Breakfast food was good and the view was nice if you could get a table by the windows.
NEGATIVES:
-We had to work our schedule around the hotel shuttle which did not drop off/pick up at either one of the 2 main piazzas, but was also scheduled every two hours so the morning service had us rushing out or we would have to leave late morning. The shuttle must also be reserved the day before so you have to estimate and plan your day very carefully which is something that I don't like doing when on vacation. The driver also picked up his friends in the morning (which I don't have an issue with), except that they would speak so loudly that we could not hear ourselves so for twenty minutes we could not talk or really enjoy the drive. When the driver didn't have a friend on the shuttle, he put the radio/cd really loud. We felt like we had no business being on the shuttle because it felt like it was his vehicle and he was doing us a favor in providing the service.
-We both found the beds very uncomfortable.
-Bathroom and half the room got flooded the first night. Other numerous cosmetic maintenance issues.
-The breakfast itself (the food) was great but the dinners were average at best. I don't like eating frozen and/or reheated food when I go to Italy! They start preparing dinner at breakfast time and I found the overpowering smell of fish cooking while I was trying to eat breakfast an unpleasant experience. I should have gone with my gut knowing that hotel food is generally bad, but the reviews stated otherwise. Will never make that mistake again.
Was the hotel cheap compared to others? YES!
Was the view nice? Yes!
Would I go there again? No
This hotel is in a nice secluded area with a great view, but I don't spend more than a few minutes a day looking at the view.
When going to/from the hotel is such a hassle and unpleasant experience, added to the nauseating smell of fish being cooked during breakfast time, that's enough to put me off. Those two things just started my day off on the wrong foot and who wants to start off the day like that while on vacation?

Room Tip: Not a good location if you are not driving.

Dear guests,
I would like to personally thank you for leaving your review on your experience at the hotel.
I am very glad you underline our professional and friendly staff as this is our main goal; we strongly believe that a good service is the key to our success.
Thank you for appreciating the view that we offer over the bay of Naples and Vesuvius as it is one of a kind and we are lucky to be able to provide this spectacular.
I am sadden to hear that you found some floats with our shuttle bus drop off/pick up.
The shuttle bus hours are programmed with many hydrofoil and train scheduled hours and many people find them to be quite handy. We drop off/pick up near one of the main squares of Sorrento as this is the only place where all the hotel’s shuttle busses are authorized to stop and drop off/pick up at.
The food that we offer in the hotel restaurant is cooked fresh day by day, as often we also serve lunch to many organized groups that stay with us; so in order to prepare we must start at 9.00 o’clock in the morning so that by 12.00 we have everything ready for lunchtime. During your stay we had an extractor cap broken, the matter was dealt with. However we had to wait two days for the delivery of a new piece it was then replaced.
I am sorry for any inconvenient caused including the problem with the shower. The shower doors needed to be open by pulling. Probably accidentally someone opened the door the wrong way and its plastic seal broke but, however, it was replaced and fixed the morning after.
I thank you once again on expressing your view on your stay!
I will personally look into fixing what you found to be a negative experience.

We took a short break (5 days) to Italy and found this excellent hotel on Expedia. Outstanding is the best way to describe this place. Our rooms was smallish but nicely laid out, flat screen TV, mini bar, balcony, shower, WC, modern but with traditional flooring and bath tiles. The staff were brilliant, the two girls at reception were helpful and chatty, the bar and restaurant team were attentive and genuinely friendly, breakfast and evening meals were delicious. They have a shuttle bus to take guests into Sorrento and collect them again at different intervals...so you don't have to drive a hire car everyday if you've decided to get one. We were there at the beginning of the new season, so things were quiet but I'm sure if it was full the service would be the same. This is a really nice place, it's not too big and that is a good thing. There are lots of hotels in this area, some are much bigger with more facilities but I think the disadvantage with these is you would suffer from large tour groups and more noise. Due Golfi is Grand without being sprawling or impersonal. The view from the comfy seats in the bar is great, and there is a similar view if you get a window table for brekkies too. We really liked it, our break was made all the more enjoyable for our stay here and the owner should be proud of this hotel and his terrific staff!

Room Tip: All rooms seem to have a balcony, a considerable number face across the bay and you can see Vesuvius...

The view from the hotel is really nice, however we got a room view to the road. The room was clean and comfortable. The wifi was working, but only with daily codes. The breakfast was really good with wide selection of food. The staff was really helpful, could offer good restaurants in the small city of Sant'Agata. The private car park is 20m from the hotel.

Room Tip: choose a room with view to Sorrento and the sea

This is a wonderful hotel outside Sorrento with splendid views. They offer free shuttle services to/from Sorrento, although the frequency should be increased. They have a car parking if you have your own car.

Service and cleanness is more then OK and the price/quality of the diners is more then correct.

We didn't use the swimming pool because it is a bit to small and almost always in the shadow.

When you book, don't forget to take a room with sea view !!

When we are in the area, we will certailnly come back !
