“A little Gem, with beautiful views...”
Reviewed 25 October 2013

We have just returned from a weeks stay, and found this hotel to be spotlessly clean, very comfortable and the staff very friendly. An earlier review mentioned that it could do with an exterior coat of paint and a little bit of maintenance around the pool, and I agree, but some how this all adds to the charm. Yes, it is a little out of Sorrento, but the views make up for this. We could find little information about Sant'Agata which is a five minute walk from the hotel, it does have a few very nice restaurants including one with two Michelin stars, however, the food at the hotel is good for the occasional "night in".

Room Tip: A sea view room is a must.

I stayed here in October 2011 ( am behind the times when It comes to technology ) and had a fantastic trip!

I used this hotel on the recommendation of a Friend who was getting married in Sorrento - in fact, all of the guests who attended the wedding stayed in this hotel, and Renato deserves a huge thumbs up for his assistance to us all in that time.

He was in constant commuincation with me via email about my stay and arrival, and was super helpful throughtout the stay.

Our group was made up of Irish and Welsh - and we stayed during the World Cup, when Wales beat Ireland, and the hotel staff joined in with the few of us who managed to make it up to watch the game as it was the morning after the wedding!

Cannot recommend this hotel enough - free shuttle into Sorrento, helpful friendly staff and excellent accomodation

Room Tip: All Rooms Superb ( upon visiting other rooms our group stayed in )

We stayed at this hotel in September and had a great time. My mother has had a stroke and has been left with a number of disabilities. She loves to travel and as a family we take her away every year. This year it was just my sister , mum and myself and we were given a triple room. It had plenty of space in both the room and the bathroom. Yes the décor is a bit dated and oldie worlde but we found it added to the atmosphere. View from the balcony was beautiful and would recommend 4th and 5th floors. Yes the beds are on the firm side but hotel beds are never going to suit everyone ! The rooms are very clean and are made up daily. I'm not even going to discuss TV's and internet as you must be very sad if this is important to you on holiday!!!!
We stayed on half board basis and couldn't grumble about the food at all. Breakfast was plentiful. Choice of cereals, breads, fruits, meats eggs something for even the most fussy.
Evening meals were 4 courses again with plenty of choice. Some were better than others but all were tasty. If you wanted something different you only had to ask. Wine list was reasonably priced and good value. Gala evening is not to be missed and the entertainment was good fun.
Lunch menu if you were by the pool in the day was also very good value and quality.
Location of the hotel is great , away from the hustle of Sorrento itself and cooler. Yes you have to plan ahead if you want to use the free shuttle bus but there is the local bus as well. You can walk to Sorrento down a path , my sister did it early one morning, it took her about 30-40 mins. She said she was glad she walked down and took the bus back. Uneven path and quite steep in places, not a route for everyone and not to be done in the heat of the afternoon. St Agata is a lovely town with lots of places to eat and drink if you do not want to be tied to the hotel. It is a short walk from the hotel down a private path lined with fig trees, sunflowers, hazelnut and olive trees. We were naughty and did scrump a few figs on the way!! A little steep in places but if we can manage it with a wheelchair then it cant be too bad. During our weeks stay there were at least two music events in the town that were free to join in with. Its a great community. Orlandos bar had a lovely feel and we had lunch and drinks there on a number of occasions. Fantastic mixed salads, reasonably priced drinks and a welcoming host couldn't ask for more. Back to the hotel, the pool area is ok plenty of sunbeds, although the pool is a little chilly for me ! It is the staff that make this hotel, they could not have been more friendly and helpful. They gave us good advice on the trips that were suitable for mum. On arrival my mum had been shall we say a little unwell on the transfer! Antonella met us at the door and took us in hand, everything was dealt with and tensions were eased away, perfect reception. My mothers speech has been impaired from the stroke but all the staff listened and chatted to her with interest and patience. They were genuine and to be honest we couldn't have asked for more from the staff. We would definitely go back again. Thank you Hermitage you made our trip.

Room Tip: Higher floors in the centre are the best for views.

We stayed at this hotel on the 19th September for 4 nights. We travelled for a wedding. Our friends were staying at a different hotel, so we wanted to find a hotel near by and good value for money. It is not our usual choice as were are young couples and prefer modern hotels, but we were pleasantly surprised.

First Impressions- Beautiful area. Hotel looked more like a 3* from the outside, but to be expected as next to a main road, so showing slight wear and tear.
We were welcomed by very friendly staff, who were efficient and helpful with checking us in.
The hotel is a traditional style. There is a lobby with someone always available to help, a bar with outdoor and indoor seating and a nice restaurant downstairs. The hotel was very clean.

Pool- Never got in, as it is freezing, but would be nice to cool down after sunbathing. There are several loungers around the pool, which are great as have head covers so can shade away from the sun when reading/sleeping. You don't have to take your own pool towels and are provided free of charge near the pool bar. The pool bar is great, drinks and food available at certain times throughout the day.

Rooms- We paid for a sea view, and was well worth the money!! What a view!! Maybe the best we have ever seen from a hotel room. I requested a high floor, and got a room on the 4th floor. This was a perfect area overlooking the pool and sea. There is a lift! The rooms are traditional with wooden furniture and simple decorating. Nice balcony area with table and chairs. Beds were comfy, we had 2 singles made in to a double and an extra bed too. There were extra blankets and pillows available. The only thing which wasn't a huge problem, was that the walls must be very thin, could hear everything from the next rooms and hallway, so was woken up several times. Would take earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The safe is included in the room. The TV worked fine, mainly Italian channels, but we don't watch TV much when on holiday. The bathroom was very clean, with a bath and overhead shower, took us a while to figure out how it worked though, but was fine. Quite spacious bathroom. Our friends had to next room to us, and we had an interconnecting room, with lockable door, so was very handy for us to nip in and out.

Food- We didn't eat in the restaurant as we were B&B, but was an option available for 20 euros I think, Food looked nice. Breakfast- Good quality, not a huge amount of choice, but enough to have; cereal, eggs and bacon, yogurts, juice and coffee, etc.

Location- Excellent location. the hotel has its own walkway to Sant'Agata which is 5-10 minutes walk, which is well worth it. The town is lovely, great buildings and very quaint. There are several bars, shops and restaurants.
If you want to go to Sorrento, there is a local bus which takes approx 15-20 minutes. The tickets can be bought at reception at 2.50 euros per person each way. These are quite regular and can ask for a timetable. We got a bus down but was advised on a Sunday the bus returned from Sorrento at 8pm, we waited for nearly an hour and no bus, so had to pay 50 euros for a taxi back to the hotel. Taxis are very expensive, so if can use local transport will save you a small fortune.

If you do not have transport from the airport, I would without a doubt, pre-book through City Airport Taxis online. They were by far the cheapest- 190 euros return for 4 people and it was a Mercedes MPV, very stylish and comfy. This can be paid locally instead of paying when booking. The drivers were professional and drove really safely.

What I really liked about the hotel is you don't need cash on you, as drinks, etc get put on to your room bill, which can be paid at any time. Just don't forget about the Italian tax which has to be paid in cash only!

I would recommend this hotel for anyone who wants a lovely hotel in a great location.Great value for money. Would stay again if return to this area.

Room Tip: Pay for a sea view, the higher floor the better for the view.

We have just completed a 7 day stay at this hotel. Lovely room, spotlessly clean, excellent food and service and a view to die for! Would definitely recommend to others looking for a quiet area with stunning views over the Bay of Naples. Thank you to all the staff for making our holiday truly memorable. Jac and Jen
