“Stunning location”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

The villa is a great places to stay, you have all the facilities of the hotel but are away from the main areas and nearer the village. We had a very large room with a balcony, the room was very clean comfortable if a little dated. The shower was tiny but never ran out of hot water.
The only downside was the noise, the walls are quite thin so we could hear people above us occasionally. Although never our next door neighbours.

Breakfast was good, wide variety of items to choose from.

Staff were really helpful and friendly.

The village of Sant Agata is just a few mins walk from the villa with some very good restaurants.

This hotel and villa combo is a great idea for people who don't want to be in each other's company all the time, the villa is situated far enough away to feel part of it but not forced to chat to people if you don't want to.

The location is stunning, the views are beautiful! I could quite happily sit out on the balcony all day! You must request a balcony room though, as we didn't get one and asked to change. The staff, particularly the manager Renata, were so helpful! I have never asked to change rooms before and was worried about sounding rude.

The staff at reception and in the lounge and dining area are the best! But Franco, who seems to do lots of different jobs around the hotel, is the whole spirit of the place! He drives, he delivers your luggage, he takes you drink order, he dances and gives you a great laugh! This is the main reason why we would come back again :D

The food is superb, a different three course menu every night and music once a week. There is also a handy private path leading you down to the village of Sant'Agata where there are a few excellent supermarkets! (With Gluten Free items, which I was very happy about)
As this is the second time we have stayed here, I don't think we will be back very soon, but it is definitely a place we would return to in the next 5 years!

Also, if you plan on sitting in your room watching TV (which I hope you aren't!!) the TVs are tiny! This is not a complaint, because you should be outside visiting all that Sorrento and the islands have to offer! The Amalfi Coast is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. The hotel can arrange trips for you and recommend the good ones. If you can stay for 10 days, you should! One week is slightly too short if you plan on doing lots of trips!

Room Tip: If you are staying in Villa Romita, ask for a room with a balcony!

We arrived later in the evening and were greeted at the door by lovely staff. Some our luggage had gone missing at the airport, the staff chased this for us until it arrived four days later. Our room in the Villa was clean and well maintained and serviced every day. The room has both a safe and a fridge available and was comfortably airconditioned. The food was typically Italian style from the breakfast to the evening meal, we could have almost anything we asked for within reason. The staff were always attentive and friendly. They offered many suggestion on places to visit and excursion available over and above the typical tours. The Wifi access was very intermittent but there was a hotel laptop available for use. The villa has outstanding view of the bay of Sorrento and away from the hassle and bustle of the town. The shuttle service was readily available throughout the day. The hotel is very multi cultural with customer from all over the world adding to the charm. We had a great time and would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Sorrento.

When we were first shown our room at Villa Romita, I must be honest, we were disappointed. It was a little dark, there was a slight whiff of damp and the plaster was falling off the walls. We felt a little gloomy after our long trip there.
However, the staff were so wonderful and friendly that over the course of our week's stay we forgot about the tatty décor and got stuck into enjoying the cracking views and Sant'Agata.

On a plus, the air conditioning worked brilliantly and the room was always kept clean and tidy. The shower never ran out of hot water and was clean too, although the plastic shower curtain took us back to student days where you desperately tried to avoid it sticking to your wet skin!

Our balconies were great for an evening glass of vino and a game of dominoes but they would have been used even more if we had had a washing stand to dry wet swimwear and towels on. We resorted to taking chairs out of the bedroom and draping our damp stuff over them.

Sant'Agata is just down a little path and easily walkable - even with young children.
Everyone made a fuss of our little girl and she had a huge sleep couch made up for her in one of our rooms.

The pool is split into main pool and kids pool which is great for tots. Replacing the broken sun loungers and parasols would be good though, they just make things look a little more tatty.

Breakfast was fine, yes the juice was so sweet it was undrinkable but otherwise there was a good selection of Italian and continental food. The coffees every morning were the best bit!

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking towards the Grand Hotel Hermitage, the views are better!

The best things about this hotel are the close proximity to Sant Agata for evening meals and the pool. However everything else including the decor and breakfast are pretty basic. The complementary shuttle bus is handy and essential but ran at slightly strange times and not airconditioned! All in all we enjoyed our stay but would probably not go back to this hotel.

Despite the size of the hotel, we received a heartfelt welcome. It was on the last night before the hotel was shut down for the winter. We were upgraded to a lovely room with a panoramic view overlooking the bay. For dinner, they recommended 'Lo Stuzzichin' - a fantastic family run restaurant. All in all, it was a much welcome stop over, but for the breakfast, which lacked the same personal touch.

This is very difficult to review, as with any review it is always a matter of personal opinion.

The location is excellent, views of Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples, spectacular ! Villa Romita is spotlessly clean. St Agata is a 5 minute walk and has a couple of nice bars and restaurants, also a couple of supermarkets, so very convenient. The Hotel Hermitage (down a small incline) has a free shuttle bus service every hour to Sorrento. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. In fact the staff make the place, I am not happy giving a negative review as the staff were so lovely, however, you cannot run a business on the basis that the staff are superb and I feel I must be honest.

Villa Romita is a 2 star at best and I think we had one of the best rooms. We were on the first floor with a side view of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. The room and the bathroom were really clean. The room was tiny with 2 single beds pushed together. The linen is ancient and threadbare, the sheets were changed twice over a 7 night stay. The room is so small that the wardrobe door opens onto the bed (you cannot pass without closing it). There is a small fridge in the room, this is locked and the power cable is inside, you have to request it to be unlocked and then pay 10 euro to use it (odd !). There is a small safe in the cupboard, this is free. The curtains are hanging down in the room. There is no bath, only a shower, and nowhere to put any toiletries. There are 2 pillows supplied (we used a spare blanket folded up as an extra pillow, which the maid kindly refolded each day !) Two towels were supplied each day,no hand towels so washing one's hair was difficult. IT I WAS REALLY NOISY in the Villa, tiled floors and staircases so unavoidable whichever room you had. It was quite busy so there were people coming in at midnight and 1am, just talking normally and walking to thier rooms but so noisy you woke every time. Also anyone getting up early distrubed you in the same way, it was really quite distracting. The walls are paper thin, you can hear conversations, televisions, and snoring, unfortunately for us there was a very loud snorer in the room above, we were so fed up we had to laugh about in the end. The Villa was full as was the hotel so no chance of moving, although in all honesty it would not have made a difference, it is a noisy building. It has a roof terrace with a couple of chairs and a lovely view.

The Hotel Hermitage is not a lot better, you only sleep in Villa Romita - thank goodness - everything else is provided by the hotel. Considering what we paid for the 7 nights in the Villa (and we got a discount) I would have expected 3/4 star accommodation at least. We were charged 145 euros for the Saturday night of our stay and on average 90 euros a night for the other 6 nights. The Hotel Hermitage is much more expensive so we expected the facilities there to be of a much higher standard. Unfortunately not - as mentioned the staff are wonderful but it ends there.

The breakfast is the worst I have ever had, orange juice that was so sweet it was undrinkable, coffee from a machine with powdered milk, rock hard pastries, boiled eggs that were black inside. The only hot offering was scambled egg and mini frankfurters sitting in trays and not very appetising. There was bread that you could toast, yoghurt and a small selection of cheese and meat, all in all not nice at all. However, the room itself is pleasant enough and there is an option to sit on the terrace. This is not a 4 star standard of breakfast.

The pool which we could also use was OK, only OK, very small, freezing cold, lots of sunbeds but mostly they were very dirty, the tiles were sticky and there is grass and weeds growing up between the stones along the outer section of sunbeds. Not what you expect for 4 star accommodation.

I could go on but I won't. We loved the area and hired a car for 4 days, the shuttle is reliable but only goes to Sorrento and there is so much to see. We were however very disappolinted overall, considering the cost of the Villa for the week, we expected some good 3/4 star accommodation, this was not the case.

I wouild return to the area in a flash but not to Villa Romita or Hotel Hermitage. such a shame as the staff are fantastic.

Room Tip: Don't stay there !
