“Friendly service and tasty food - but nothing special”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2011

The focus here is on the grills - lots of different meats cooked very well. The pastas were only OK. However the service and atmostphere were great, so all in all we had a nice evening here. It was full of locals on a mid-week evening which says it all.

“Great family running restaurant (Fresh ingredients, Generous portion)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 October 2009

It's not a fancy restaurant with chic deco. However, when dining at La Cavola d'Oro, it feels like you're in a big family & friend's dinner, wooden tables, big ceramic plates, baskets full of fruits in the middle of tables, great selection of dessert on a big tray in the middle of the restaurant.
Many people (most of them, very frequent visitors whom the owners will greet in person) talking and laughing, but it doesn't bother you. Instead, it brings such a warm and "Italian" atmosphere to the restaurant.
Most of the time, the waiters will not bring you a list of menu, but will explain to you what they have on the day. (I guess it is because they always choose the fresh ingredients from the market in the morning and the menu can be changed every other day) Anything you choose will be made with fresh ingredients and you will be able to taste it. Not too re-fined or creative cooking, but "re-fined home-made" cooking. The portion is very generous. So a male adult and a female adult always order 1 portion for each course and share together, however, will still feel bursting in the end.
I have been loyal to the restaurant since I got to know the place in 2008 and any dish from antipasto till dolci I've tried have never disappointed me.
The service staff is also great, courteous, and very well-informed about everything. (I guess they've been working for THE restaurant for a looooong time) You might have some difficulties in communicating and getting what you want if you speak only English. However, the restaurant is definitely worth a try for its delicious food, warm atmosphere, and great service...!!
