We spent xmas skiing in Passo Tonale and chose the Flora Alpina for its location and previous reviews. However we cannot understand how it is 3rd out of 28 hotels in Passo Tonale. We stayed at the Adamello 2 years ago for xmas week, so were expecting similar. The room (203) was comfortable, clean, warm, our own balcony, hot water always although the shower was very small unless you are petite. The food was disappointing, and there was no atmosphere in the dining room/bar at all. The breakfast was basic, cakes stale and nothing hot and no-one in attendance to refill water jug etc. Dinner was basic, same basic salad buffet and limited choices. I have never had a hot meat dish served up as just that with just salad to accompany it. It did seem to improve a bit when there were Italian guests towards the end of the holiday. It felt you were rushed through the dinner so the next days breakfast could be laid out by the waitress and one evening when we did linger talking to another couple the door behind us was opened wide letting the cold air from outside in. There is only Italian TV, usually we are able to get BBC world news or something, but not here. The lounge was uninviting, local TV on, no music. We used the bars opposite, magic bar or la botte which gave you appertisers with a pre dinner drink. The best thing about this hoel is its close location to the slopes and lifts.

This hotel is in a great location, it is very clean, plenty of hot water with comfortable rooms. However, the food is awful. Breakfast is poor with even the same cold boiled eggs re-appearing day after day, I tried 3 times to eat one but each time the insides were green. Uneaten food left on plates was seen being put back on the 'buffet'. Very poor choice with no variety at all. Evening meals were not much better. Pasta or soup starters were edible but main meals very strange. Ordered chicken-just got a piece of chicken on my plate. Ordered pork- just that on the plate. Veal casserole-got just that. There was a cold salad buffet each night but again poor choice. Why the cold potatoes on the buffet could not be hot and on our plates I do not know. Deserts were a bit if a standing joke among the guests. Fruit or prunes in red wine. Then fruit or fruit salad, then fruit, fruit salad or ice cream, then fruit, fruit salad or prunes in red wine etc.
The bar was less than welcoming the owner used it as his own private lounge and we felt like intruders when we did go in there. We used the nearby bars each night.
Christmas gala dinner a very strange affair. Weird combinations but we did get hot accompaniments with the main course.
All week we felt like we were staying in a family home and not feeling very welcome. I was very glad we did not pay full price for this holiday.
If you are not bothered about food quality and can get a cheap deal, fine. Otherwise I could not recommend this hotel. Something has gone wrong since the good reviews of last season.

An excellent hotel for a skiing holiday. We stayed in April for a week. Boot and ski room were easily accessible from inside the hotel and then the lift was 1 minute from the doors. Breakfast was decent, what you needed before a day on the slopes. Lots of bread, cheese, meat, cereals, sweet pastries and fruit. Coffee was good too. Room was comfortable and very warm. I could look to see if the lift was running from my window. The restaurant across the road and the Magic bar were both excellent too. The owners do not speak English but the lady was lovely and we managed get all the information that we needed. Excellent value hotel - if you book it for a decent price then you won't be disappointed. What more could you ask for on a ski holiday?

My partner and I stayed here as part of a package (half board) skiing holiday at Easter.

Pros
Located pretty much as close to the slopes as you can get and only a minute from the boot room to the nearest ski lift
All traditional italian food in the evenings with a choice of 3 meals for each course
Bread, cereal, cold meat, fruit, juice, croissant and coffee to choose from in a buffet style breakfast every morning
Friendly and extremely helpful hosts
Rooms cleaned and tidied every day
Free wi-fi access

Cons
Thin walls (can hear next room)
Wi-fi not accessible from all rooms
Not all lights worked
Shower drain slow to drain water away
Located opposite magic bar which can be noisy when people head back to their accommodation following après ski

Overall the pros greatly outweigh the cons and we would definitely recommend staying here to anyone wanting an affordable, yet comfortable stay during a skiing holiday.
