“What a fantastic hotel.”
Reviewed 26 March 2014

Grand Hotel Paradiso is a really fantastic hotel. The staff for us were faultless, they were all extremely friendly and helpful, nothing was ever too much bother and they were always smiling. The hotel its self is a lovely modern hotel that looks great, it is very clean and has all the facilities one could ask for. Our room was lovely and was cleaned everyday. My partner is celiac and the restaurant went above and beyond. We have never experienced such a fantastic level of service. He had his own menu each evening and at breakfast and dinner his own bread and crackers left out for him. Our waiter would also suggest suitable alternatives for him to add to the choices. The food was lovely with plenty of choice. The ski hire shop is connected to the hotel and with a flight of steps up you are right on the slopes, so for us the location was perfect. If you are booking with Crystal add the extra pre paid cards as it works out as half price for whatever you charge to your room, i.e. drinks etc, which makes the prices more reasonable.

The only negative was that the Jacuzzi was not working in the spa for the duration of our stay and the pool was very cold. The man in the ski hire shop was also quite grumpy and moody. But we managed to make him smile eventually.

Just returned last week from an excellent ski holiday with my wife at the Grand Hotel Paradiso where we met some lovely people both guests and staff. This hotel is quite different from most ski holiday accommodation that we have visited in previous years. The hotel entrance is large, clean, spacious and airy with a lovely sitting area, large couches and fantastic views of the mountains. It is more like a city centre hotel in its general layout and reception area.

We found very little to complain about, we have travelled extensively over the last thirty years and know what is important in a winter holiday. The standard room which we booked at less than a weeks notice was warm, clean with plenty warm water, a television with a variety of international channels including British and excellent mountain views. The room was cleaned everyday by the pleasant housekeeping staff who would always greet you with a friendly buongiorno.

The furniture was scuffed at the base of the table, wardrobe where people had been moving cases and ski equipment in the room but nothing excessive or unacceptable.

The food in the restaurant was plentiful, varied and to the standard you would expect in a ski hotel catering for winter sports enthusiasts. The restaurants staff were all very pleasant without exception and a special thanks to "Daniel" and "Marianna" our waiters for the week who were very helpful and good at their jobs.

The wine list was excellent with the focus on local and regional Italian wines not surprisingly which were well priced for an establishment of this standard. We had purchase 200 euro of credit for £87 from Crystal Ski prior to our departure, this was an excellent deal which made most drink prices about 50 percent of the price advertised.

The bar in the hotel was very pleasant and welcoming after a day on the slopes, the drinks prices were much the same as the rest of the resort. "Elai" the barman was a great laugh with the customers and gave excellent service during the week. The hotel also provides free apres ski snacks with drinks in the early evening.

We were fortunate to meet "Shami" who was the general handyman/do everything man in the hotel, he could not have been more helpful and knew everything that was going on in the hotel, he was always found near the foyer and was very pleasant to all guests at all times of day and night.

We used the wellness/spa facilities which were adequate. However the lighting in the pool area could have been much better, there could have been more loungers available for guests to use and the jacuzzi was unavailable for the duration of our holiday, this is unacceptable for a hotel of this quality.

My only other criticism of the hotel was the in-house ski hire shop located next to the bar. On the first day of the holiday we joined the queue to get served when we heard the Moldovan man who was serving shouting and being abrupt to customers who had pre booked their equipment through Crystal Ski and who were clearly not getting what they had paid for. This was not a one of and this arguing and abuse was also vented on other customers while I waited. Whilst I was waiting I examined two pairs of skis that were on the rack and were ready to be hired out, both skis had blunt edges and had no signs of having been recently waxed. These skis had just recently been returned from skiers who had finished their holidays and were literally being hired out again without any servicing to customers waiting in the queue.

Along with a number of other customers we decided to leave and go elsewhere and walked about fifty yards up the road towards the village and were fortunate to find Noleggio Ski hire situated on the left hand side of the road next to the ski instructors office.

When I entered the shop the local staff could have not been more helpful or courteous. When we were waiting to be served we saw five local ski instructors enter the shop and collect their newly serviced equipment for the week ahead. The shop has an open plan front where you can watch the skis being waxed, edged and service. The skis we received were excellent quality, recently serviced and for two pairs of intermediate this year skis we paid £85.

We travelled to the Hotel Paradiso with Crystal Ski, the rep at this hotel was "Debbie" who was nothing short of excellent. She was always available and highly visible and every morning at breakfast and in the evenings in the bar she made the effort to personally speak to all of her guest about their day on the slopes and if there was anything she could do to improve your holiday.

If I return to Passo Tonale I would certainly stay at this hotel. The hotel is as nearly a ski in/out location as you can ski down a short access slope to the carpark and be about 50 metres from the boot room. We found all he hotel staff without exception to be very friendly and helpful and at the end of the day a holiday is a two way process and is what you make of it.

Room Tip: Standard Rooms on the second or third floor have excellent uninterrupted views of the mountains at b...

This hotel was fantastic! Not only was the food brilliant the staff were so friendly and nothing was ever too much effort! The barman Elia was fantastic and with his guidance recommend the best glass of
Red wine I've had! It was very clean and right on the slopes! A wonderful stay and will certainly be back again!

We found the hotel soulless and somewhat unwelcoming. There is no lounge or cosy spot to sit and chat. The entrance area and corridors are like an office block or student hall of residence.

We had a standard room which was adequate but rather small. The fridge had a notice attached saying that apart from medical use there was a charge of 10euros per day. What cheek!!!!! As standard roomers you sit in an area of the dining room dedicated to similar guests and get inferior crockery and glassware to premium room guests. Plastic glasses are used at breakfast for fruit juice. Bath robes are not provided with standard rooms and have to be hired in the spa at 3euros per visit and must be returned on leaving the spa. The jacuzzi was out of action throughout our visit with no evidence of working on the problem .

Food was good apart from the main course which was often fairly dry with no sauce or gravy and the vegetables were always overcooked. The salad and sweet buffets were particularly good.

Notice in room suggested reusing towels. Each day we put them back on the towel rail and each day they were replaced with clean towels. Not very environmentally friendly.

We would not return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't have a standard room as it affects the rest of your stay there. All rooms have good views

A really nice hotel. Good Italian food. Great location ski lift at rear of hotel. Staff were superb. Worked really hard to make your stay enjoyable. Nothing was any problem. Nice quiet bar to relax in the evening. Wine in restaurant a bit pricey. Perhaps house local wine carafes would help. Deserves 5 stars but spa leisure facilities need servicing. A bit dark with some facilities e.g hot tub requiring repair. A quiet resort if you want a relaxing ski holiday with superb vistas

My husband and I visited this hotel in February for a skiing holiday. The hotel is great. We had booked a superior room which I would thoroughly recommend. The room itself was well furnished, very clean and had great views of the slopes. The shower was very powerful just what us needed at the end of a days skiing.

We also used the spa area which was great although the jacuzzi was out of order for the week we were there. One thing tho you have to purchase is a swimming cap to use the pool - 3 euros it costs.

The restaurant was excellent. The food was lovely and plentiful. There was a good variety which I think would cater for most tastes. The staff in the restaurant were attentive.

We had pre booked the hotel credit facility. For £80 we got 200 euro credit. Well worth it.

We are new to skiing and would thoroughly recommend this resort for beginners. The ski school was really good and got us to a standard where we could go off on our own. The slopes are literally at the back of this hotel. We had a great holiday and the hotel is well worth booking.
