At the end of Corso Mateotti, where in the past were the horse stables, now the very elegant ristorante Amordivino is located. In a very cosy interior you get beautiful dishes presented. This time we had crema di fagioli, pate nero with fonduta pecorino and tagliata. Our wine was a very tasty Dogajolo, a bottle with a remarkable etiquette. A pleasant place where we love to come.

A very charming dining area with the grill exposed for all to see. And here, it is all about the bistecca fiorintina. The owner/chef (Lucia?) puts on quite a show as grill master. The main attraction is the 1 KG monster of beef (for at least due personne I would think). You'll take it rare and like it. Not overshadowed were the appetizers, soups ... all. A very sound wine list. Seamless, unobtrusive service. A little Andrea Bocelli and you are in Toscana heaven.

Ok, so here on a business trip and was taken here by the hosts. Excellent ambiance, warm friendly welcome and large open wood stove created a nice environment. Service was first rate and was made easier as our hosts are Italian. Food was very very good. I've been to some great places but this rates very well. Excellent wine and variation on the food. Prices were very reasonable. If you are staying anywhere nearby then make a trip here, you will note be disappointed.

We happened across this ancient building containing the restaurant that is quite discretely hidden behind a small door. On stepping inside, you will receive a very warm Italian welcome and you will be under no illusion as to how the roasting is performed, on a giant fire in front of your very eyes. The menu consists of a good range of genuinely Tuscan and wider Italian dishes, all at reasonable prices considering the obviously very high quality of the ingredients. Of all the places I have eaten beef, including more expensive restaurants in Paris, London, Manchester and elsewhere, the quality and presentation at Locanda Amordivino is amongst the very best I have seen. The wine list is also very good, naturally consisting primarily of the very fine wines from the surrounding area such as Chianti, Brunello, Montepulciano and Montalcino. All a robust match for the flavours of Italian cuisine, and some lighter ones too for the more delicate palate or dish.

All I would suggest is that if you do prefer your beef to be cooked for longer, ask for this on ordering because the default is very rare (and sending back such excellent meat for a second cooking would frankly be a travesty of your own making).

This was our second meal at Locanda Amordivino and both times the food was amazing. The first time my husband and I ate here, it was lovely here and we remembered to come back on a recent trip to the area. This time, we had a celebration dinner with 8 family members and friends. The food was fantastic, their grilled steak and meat is especially good - there's a friendly guy inside the restaurant who has everything cooked on a big grill. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. This is a great place to come whether you're a couple looking for a quiet place with great food or in a larger group. The ambience of the outdoor dining area is lovely - there are a couple other places with outdoor dining in the back in Asciano but we like the more rustic feeling of Locanda Amordivino. We'll definitely be back.
