“For lovers of weapons, this is the place for you”

Villa Medicea di Cerreto Guidi
Reviewed 1 November 2014

The Villa Medici at Cerreto Guidi was a hunting lodge as witnessed by the family portraits where dogs are much in evidence, the tapestries depicting hunting scenes, and the fabulous hunting weapons, including muskets, carbines, pistols, and a fine display of hunting knives. In stark contrast, the peaceful atmosphere of the private chapel, and the cloistered garden, along with the fabulous view is a feast for the soul. As for a feast for the body, visit the Ristorante Adriano, a surprisingly superb restaurant for such a small village.

A lovely, peaceful place - you can imagine how important this family were to have this house.

A very relaxed place in which you can see beautiful works of art at your own pace.

Views from here are stunning.

Highly recommend a visit.

In 2013, the famous Medici villa's were added to the UNESCO world heritage list. In preparation for this some 25 of these villa's were perfectly restaured and opened to the public (free entrance!). All of these villa's are decorated with often original furniture and paintings. Most villa's have beautiful gardens. One of the fine examples is situated in the old town of Cerreto Guidi, in the north of Tuscany, some 20 kms from Montecatini Terme.
Every first weekend of July the village organises the event of "La Notte d'Isabella de Medici", with parades, traditional foods en many more activities during which the whole town is dressed-up in nice medieval costumes.

Knock on the door and you are welcomed inside. A lady then follows you round the interesting exhibits- I tjhink you need to be Italian to add some conversation!.

A slightly excentric experience not to be missed
