“Went twice!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2013

We were staying nearby at Castello di Montegufoni. Our plan was to dine at a restaurant in Florence; HOWEVER, we couldn't find it, were about to be run over by traffic and decided to tuck tail and head back to Montagnana. We decided to wander into Il Focalare and were so happy with that decision. It is a family owned & staffed restaurant with charming ambience. The food - especially the house wine and the grilled pork - were wonderful. We enjoyed it so much we returned the next night and ordered the Bistecca Florentine. Highly recommend it!

“Nice Saturday night dinner”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2013

The restaurant was on the main road and easy to find. It opened at 8 pm and we had reservations but I'm not sure we would have needed them. We saw other diners order the steak and it seemed too much for the two of us since we wanted to try some of the other dishes and dessert. The arugula and peccorino salad was fresh and tasty. My husband had the chicken and rabbit, I had the pappardelle in meat sauce. They made a half portion pasta pommodoro for my 9 year old daughter. The chocolate torte for dessert was delicious. The service was great, our waiter had an excellent recommendation for a local wine. We'd go again and try the steak.

“Great Bistecca alla Fiorentino”

You have to try the steak! It's a little tricky getting there, so get good directions before setting off in the dark.

“Best steak in Tuscany!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2012

The owners came out to welcome and serve us - short of staff since it's August and there were no fans. However they shrugged off our team coming back later with some extra fans from our own house!

They even allowed us to have a peek at their kitchens and see how they cook the Steak (on coals, of course!) Do try their lovely fried courgette flowers and aubergines dipped in light flour.

Superb La Historia di Italia wine from the local Castello Poppiano - a must try.
