We have been away from Italy for three years - and missing the pizza we grew to love while living here -- even more so the warm open-ness of Italians and their willingness to live in the moment with visitors which brings us to Zia Remy. After 16 days crossing the Atlantic on Celebrity Reflection, Pienza was our first non-ship stop. So for our first dinner, we decided on pizza. Having smelled the wood stove firing up for the evening's pizza as we drove to our hotel in Pienza (Hotel Corsignano), we thought this might be the place. We checked with the front desk and receiving a thumbs up ("It's only a pizza place..." -- Perfect - just what we wanted) we walked the 100 or so yards to dine. Only in Italy can you spend almost two hours lingering over a pizza meal when pizza is on your table - including two hand tossed pizzas - 10 minutes after you order it. You linger because the local wine is delicious and the proprietor and his daughter are delightful and engaging -- then comes the extra special dessert - "Chocolate Salami" a first for us in Italy - followed by a late harvest digestivo. When we left it was with hugs and traditional Italian kisses all around - reminding us why we love Italy so much. Any meal anywhere can become unforgettable - that was our evening at Zia Remy.
