We have spent a delightful three days at Valle Orientina at the end of Autumn. The spa is a little gem and unique in itself. It seems to be designed to provide a different experience and although limited in size the small capacity of the structure permits to find moments when the pool is really all for you. The centre is a family run business set in secluded and boschive surroundings. The waters - unlike the aggressive Saturnia' pools ones - are kind to your skin and perfectly enjoyable. The masseuse professional and effective, all services' costs reasonable. The hotel spaces are conceived to make you feel at home, temperatures of rooms and lobbies are very mindful of the guests' need to be warm when returning from the pool, rooms and bathrooms are in fact well heated and in excellent conditions. The breakfast is truly rich in offer and healthy. The hosts are true hosts who bend over backwards to welcome guests needs, provide a wealth of precious information and suggestions if one is clever enough to elicit it. I am very impressed... and I loved the antique beautiful chess board! Thanks Hotel Relais Valle Orientina, we will certainly be back.

At first I was disappointed how far away this hotel was from centro, however, this soon became a plus as I went under its magic spell. The spa is wonderful, the staff is welcoming, the dinners are good. We ate here 2 nights and especially enjoyed the wild boar cacciatore-style, their tomato bruschetta, the pici, and the veal scallopine. I imagined some Italian mamma must be in the kitchen. Breakfast was not as exciting, but they make a mean cappuccino. We had fun taking the Etruscan trails in town and seeing Sovana and its ruins.

Was here at the end of September for two nights, with wife and a small child. Had a great stay, will definitely come back if I have the chance.

Positives: atmosphere, nature, character, kindness of staff, attention to details, closeness to Pitigliano. The thermal baths are a nice plus. Oh, and excellent beds (if you like them a bit on the hard side), had one of the best sleeps in the holidays.

Negatives: nothing much as far as I'm concerned, but a few things you need to know: there is no mobile phone reception (there is however free wireless LAN, although I wish they had told me - I found out just before leaving :)), you need a car or other means of personal transportation (but you will anyway if you are visiting this area), the place is at the bottom of a small valley and it gets dark a bit earlier than elsewhere, and the views from the rooms aren't anything to write home about.

Finally I want to mention that although the place is a bit secluded, it's extremely easy to reach thanks to the frequent and well placed indications which I think is another sign of the attention to detail that is characteristic of this hotel.

Hotel Relais Valle Orientina is located a short drive from Pitigliano in Tuscany, situated in a gorgeous wooded area surrounded by rolling hills, perfect for hiking or mountain biking (can rent mountain bikes at hotel). There's also a tennis and archery area. What sold us on staying here is the wellness center that includes a natural thermal bath that's part of the hotel experience. The water flows consistently the same 99 degree temperature, and delightful to soak in after spending a day hiking or walking through Pitigliano. There are also hydro-massaging jets that felt amazing on my sore back from carrying a backpack all day. If you want to spoil yourself, they also offer massage treatments and sell natural beauty products. Although all these amenities are perfect for a special retreat, we only made use of the thermal bath because we spent all day touring the nearby Pitigliano and Sovana. It's also great if you're visiting Italy in the winter, because if you get some bad weather (like we did), you can just enjoy the spa treatments at the hotel.

The room was clean, nicely decorated, spacious enough for 2 people, a large wooden wardrobe, clean and roomy bathroom, friendly hosts, and a delicious breakfast with variety of treats. The lobby and breakfast/dining area is also beautifully decorated and very charming, welcoming, and cozy. They offer free wi-fi as well.

If there is only one drawback, because its secluded location, you do need a car to get there and get around if you want to visit nearby places. But the region is so beautiful that it deserves a visit.
