After four weeks in a busy tourist-filled city, I needed to get away for a week-end, read by a pool, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Tuscan countryside. Villa Boscarello was suggested by a good friend of the owner's daughter and I booked sight unseen. A short 45-minute train ride took me from Siena to Asciano where the lovely Vittoria offered to pick me up at the train station. We chatted in the car on the way to the Villa in Trequanda, and once there, she showed me to Ciliegie ("cherries"), a beautiful butter-yellow room with a hand-painted frieze below the ceiling, with a huge, airy, blue and white bathroom overlooking the hills. On the wicker seat of the chair were two big fluffy pool towels and within 10 minutes, I was happily soaking up the sun with a good book in my hand. Dinner is offered at their sister property, La Selva, a very short walk down the road. For a mere 20 euros, we were treated to a four-course home-cooked meal accompanied by their very own wines : a rosato to start with, their Merlot-based Boscarello with the meal and the delicious Chiantina, a fortified dessert wine served with Vittoria's peach cake to savor on the patio as the sun set. Dulcio Pommeti will gladly show you the wine-making process and their wine and olive oil can be purchased on site.
