We looked up the mountain and saw the statue of Mother Mary. We took a tour and went up to visit. We did not realize you can hike up this attraction and get exercise along with excellent photos. We were walking along the waterfront and noticed people on different levels of this mount. We walked towards the mount and easily saw the way up. There’s steps created with lava rocks in the landscape. No staircase is more than 16 steps and you often walk horizontally to the next stair uphill. You can set your own pace. We did it easily and saw many other people including some elderly with a cane. It’s worth the effort to get gorgeous photos of Praia de Vitoria, the bay, the waterfront etc. The hike back down was NO problem. I hope to do it again just for the extra enjoyment of the beautiful views.

The views here are worth the stop. My friends and I took dozens of photos here as part of our full-day tour with TuriAzores. Some of the best pictures of the island were from this stop.

We took the steps up the hill. This was great however wouldn't be safe for small children. Great views of the city and statue above

There is a small parking lot on the left - as long as you are able, I highly recommend taking the trail of stairs. The views from the walk up are as good as at the top. I think if we had driven - I would have not been as impressed. Like most adventures in Terceira - the trip to your destination is equally as amazing as the final stop.
