We stayed this hotel in May. Excellent value for money and very well –placed for those who would a peaceful place. The room with balcony and bathroom are very spacious. The entrance hall and public area (including the restaurant) are also very spacious.

We stayed in this wonderful hotel right on the border of Spain and Portugal for 1 night, and wished we could have stayed longer. The views from our well kept, and very clean, room were amazing. We enjoyed the food on offer and found the staff caring and friendly. The hotel was a joy to be in.
We were able to have a simple breakfast rather than the full works and paid accordingly.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view.

We love Parador Hotels and always use them when in Spain, but we were a little disappointed with this one. The hotel itself is modern, set on a hill above Ayamonte and rooms are available overlooking the "La Guardiana river" which is the border with Portugal. The hotel itself and its grounds were just perfect, and appear to be fully wheelchair accessible if you need this facility.
Our biggest problem was the catering - whilst the restaurant was open for breakfast, it was closed in the evening for dinner which had to be taken in the bar - not what we expected in a 4 star Parador. Whilst the buffet breakfast was up to standard it was often necessary to ask staff to replenish the buffet (bread for toast, orange juice, rolls, etc) but having said that the cooked breakfast was superb. The dinner menu in the bar was very limited and unchanged throughout the week - the "set menu" was delicious, but unchanged, and the "a la Carte" was very limited. We tended after a couple of days to go int the pleasant town where there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. This experience will not put us off using Paradors, but I would ask some questions of the company before booking this one again. Finally, the early morning alarm call requested on the morning of departure did not happen, but fortunately we woke up in time to catch our departure flight.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river/estuary

We stayed here 2 nights last week and were very disappointed. From the surly receptionist (male) on first entering to the girls in the bar/cafeteria who hardly acknowledged our presence when we requested tea and cake or at breakfast we felt like our being there was some sort of imposition on whatever they were doing. The place was virtually empty so they were not rushed off their feet. The view was lovely from the balcony, unfortunately our rail was almost on the point of falling off! With the exception of mr Rodriguez the waiter, all the rest should be on the dole. Congratulations to the big bluebottle who laid dead from the time we arrived to when we left. He got his removal when I was seen taking a photo of him or I think he would still be there. We stayed in 4 other paradores this trip and all were fantastic.

A beautiful hotel with a lovely view to the river and bridge which connects Spain and Portugal. We found hotel staff friendly and helpful. A buffet breakfast was out of this world. Clean rooms each day. What more can I say.... We had a very comfortable stay.

Two couples stayed here 6 nights on a golf trip. Less than 1 hour from Faro. Short journey from the motorway. Modern building. Plenty parking. Stayed in 203 and 204 which have lovely balcony views to the west over the river. Very comfortable balcony chairs. You can watch sun setting before eating. Rooms spacious, bright, clean and well kept. Bed comfortable. Cotton sheets. Proper blackout curtains. Our flight home was 7pm and the reception staff allowed us to keep the room till 5pm.

Breakfast fine. Lots of fresh fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice. 15 EU

Ate once in the restaurant in our first night. We were the only one in the restaurant. Food OK but overpriced compare to Ayamonte restaurants and I would not eat here again.

Pool is small and cold but very refreshing on a hot day. Plenty sun loungers by the poolside.

Ayamonte Main Square 15 minute walk through winding often cobbled streets. Lovely restaurants and great stir from kids playing in the square. Good bars and restaurants. See these reviews.

Finally a good venue for golf as about 6 courses within an hour, all about 35 to 40 EU. Best was Costa Esuri only 10 mins away.

Only minor problem we has was could not get a taxi on Sunday morning to play golf - no taxi service was answering the phone.

Room Tip: West facing room with balcony to watch the setting sun.

We liked the location very much but the building is not very "Parador". We stayed also in the Parador in Zafra, which is a real castle. This is a new building at an excellent location.
If you want to have a great view across the river towards Portugal, this spot is perfect, if you want to have the real Parador feeling, you will it not get here.
