Not long back from a summer holiday at Islantilla Hotel and Golf Resort. This was our 5th visit in total and our second summer visit. As always the staff at this resort are great and we always find the service, attention and assistance to be excellent. Special mention to the two Isabels, who are very attentive and friendly in the dining room. The rooms are very spacious but as others have previously said in reviews, a bit of a refurbishment in terms of carpet cleaning and a repaint of the bedrooms would not go amiss. The golf courses (27 holes ) were again in excellent shape although again 9 holes were closed for the first 9 days of our holiday. Additionally the course is heavily watered overnight and in the morning some areas are extremely wet, particularly around some of the tees. We arrived in early June for a 3 week stay. During the first two weeks the hotel was comfortably busy. However the 3rd week at the end of June became absolutely chaotic as far as evening dining was concerned. The Spanish schools had broken up for the holidays but this was the case when we went last year and there were no problems then. The hotel had put on some kind of offer which appeared to trigger a stampede in the dining room at night. The thought of having a pleasant , relaxing evening meal went out the window. It was like getting food from a buffet in a rugby scrum. We resorted to getting down as soon as the dining room opened at 8.00 pm and getting out before most of the guests arrived. People going in later on, were actually in a substantial queue to get tables. We felt sorry for the staff who were put under real pressure. There was also a lack of apparent organisation at the grill which was not there at the start of our holiday. At times one chef was left on his own doing the cooking on the grill, cooking pasta and carving joints of meat whilst all the other chefs vanished behind the scenes, resulting in more chaos. Although on half board we went out to eat twice during our final week to avoid the crush. We will possibly return to Islantilla but not when the Spanish schools have broken up for their summer holidays.
