Posada del Moro

We have just spent 4 nights at the charming Posada del Moro. The atmosphere is that of a country house and the owners are friendly and welcoming. The gardens and outdoor areas are pretty and there is a lovely pool with plenty of loungers and quiet spots to sit in. Unfortunately for us the temperatures were unseasonably low and the water was too cold to swim in but we still made use of the loungers and pool area. The bedroom was comfortable, spacious and very clean with a great shower and his and hers sinks.
Breakfast was simple but perfect for us before we set off each day on our bike rides. A toasted roll, cheese, tomatoes, home made marmalade and a piece of cake. The only surprise was that the orange juice came out of a carton when there were oranges hanging on the trees in the gardens!
We only ate once in the restaurant - we had a set three course meal which was great value at 10 euros each but as it was so quiet we found it lacking in atmosphere and on our final night sat at the bar in the cafeteria chatting to the friendly staff.
We would definitely stay here again. The staff went out of their way to help and allowed us to store our bikes in a safe place during our stay.
Be warned this is rural Spain and it is very relaxed. Breakfast doesn't start until 9am!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking over the gardens at the back of the hotel. Rooms at the front are above the c...

This lovely small family run hotel is a three generation business and their emphasis is on making you feel at home. The rooms are clean and comfortable with large gardens and a pool for relaxing, but also indoor lounges to escape the heat....or in our case the rather lower than usual temperatures for mid-May. The food is excellent. We stayed five nights and Victor was able to come up with alternatives when he saw that we were beginning to find the main courses a bit too much. The marmalade at breakfast is made by Julia and Lucia from oranges in their garden and is extremely good and they make great cakes. You might also get the chance to taste 'grandmother's wine'. We found this a very relaxing place to be, in an area of the country which still sees relatively few tourists.
Cazalla is an attractive town surrounded by the Sierra Norte. There are good walks but the tourist office maps leave a little to be desired. Check out the Via Verde, an old railway line now a walking and cycling track. And do not miss the Carthusian Monastery of Cartuja, open Frid- Sun 10.00 to 3.00. Los Mellis in Cazalla does great tapas.

The web site gave a very good impression of this lovely little 2-star hotel, but the reality was a real surprise and bonus! Set on the outskirts of the, rather larger than expected, village of Cazalla de la Sierra, the Posada del Moro shines like a white beacon opposite a pleasant little park, ideal for kids who want to play outside.
The reception was filled with olde-worlde furniture alongside more modern artwork, with what appeared to be hand painted frescos on the walls and ceiling. Sandra was a delight in handling our group's needs, and her English was excellent.
Rooms were spotlessly clean, if a little smaller than we'd hoped for, but the bed was comfortable, there was a TV on hand and A/C was available although it wasn't needed in October. If we had a complaint it was only a minor one, but the bath was way too small for even an average sized adult to lie down and relax. Showers only I'm afraid!
The lovely little (rather French-style) cafeteria was not what we expected given our experience of Spanish bars - a very refreshing change for us, and well-used! It became something of a meeting place for the locals too, which was nice. Breakfast was buffet-style and included the usual fare to be found in Spanish hotels - toast, tomatoes, olive oil, jam, ham, sweet cakes and fruit, with a plentiful supply of juice and fresh coffee.
The large swimming pool area was at the rear of the pleasant garden, but sadly was not tested as it was a bit late in the season for us!
Dinner in the restaurant was arranged beforehand as we were a large group with diverse diets. Suffice to say the food was well prepared and well delivered, if the menu choices we had asked for didn't quite live up to prior billing. But that's Spain for you! Wine was included in the price (at our own request) so the end result was entirely satisfactory.
Overall, this was a great base for our walking weekend. Cazalla has a few very nice bars and restaurants and the surrounding national park is well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the rooms that are directly above the bar terrace at the front of the hotel - could be...

We stayed hear whilst the local Ferrier was taking place. The location away from the centre of the village made it a tranquil place to be. The rooms are spacious, clean and have air conditioning. Towels are provided for the pool. Because this is not tourist Spain drinks and food at both the hotel and in the village are really reasonable. Go here to enjoy a traditional Spanish experience. The bull fighting is not to be missed...if you have the stomach for it!

I stayed in the hotel for 5 nights. The room was basic, clean and modern, overlooking a beautiful Moorish courtyard. The beds were comfortable and the sheets were spotless. Breakfasts are very simple rolls and ham with tomatoes (but cheap). The salt water pool is fantastic and the hotel will prepare the most delicious fresh fruit platter with fruit picked that day from their trees (figs, peaches apricots, nectarines) which you can enjoy while lying in the sun. The evening outdoor BBQ at the front of the hotel is excellent, fresh meat and seafood, delicious salads and make sure to try the special large tomatoes, I have never tasted such flavour. It's not a flash hotel by any means but it's in a great location, and it's quiet and very clean and reasonably priced. We had friends staying in all the surrounding hotels and it became clear that overall the Posada was nicest for the price. I'd highly recommend it, especially if you have children with you.
