“Gastroenteritis beware”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

We have just returned from a family holiday,11 went and 6 of us along with many other Thomas cook customers have been very sick in the middle of the holiday.
My husband had to have the doctor called due to 'the bug'. It was very frightening for us all as the children were very poorly. The hotel staff we very unhelpful and this is most definitely not a 4 star hotel. I have stayed in many 4 stars, this doesn't even compare.
Our holiday was ruined due the sickness. It takes all year to save for this and look forward to it. Something at the hotel needs to be done.

amazing family hotel, from the time we arrived to leaving the hotel could not do enough for you friendly helpful and talked really good English. Food was very nice and something for everyone kids could have slush puppies, ice creams, lollies and crisps. would go back again to this hotel kids loved the mini disco and the pools with little water slides.

Room Tip: ask for a pool view or book a junior suite

Me and my boyfriend flew out to Almeria on 26th June - 3rd July for a week. This was our first holiday together without parents and to be honest I was very nervous about attending this hotel after reading all of the bad reviews. I was amazed, the hotel is lovely! I would ignore the bad reviews people just like to moan about anything.

The staff are very nice and helpful, reception are happy to help with anything and are very good at speaking English. I would suggest getting a safe just so you know your stuff is safe. We paid 30 Euro but got 20 back once we gave the keys back.

The rooms are always kept clean, maids are very good at their job and clean the room properly. Fresh towels every day and the beds are made every day.

There are amazing ranges of foods and drinks. We went all inclusive and there was so much to choose from! We loved the cocktails as there were quite a few to choose from. The snacks during the day were great! Hot dogs, burgers, ice cream, crisps, tosties etc.. The resturant was lovely! Plenty of room for everybody and the food was amazing! Buffet- help yourself and the ranges of foods were lovely - fish, meat, salad, vegetarian, afters were also yummy.

If you walk right from the hotel for about 15 mins on the sea front there is a little tapas area which has lots of bar's, shops and food places - this was a great place and we went there most nights. If you walk left of the back of the hotel for about 30 mins walk there is a harbour which also has lots of sea front bars and food places.

We also went to the water park which is near the shopping centre (travel by bus or taxi) This was great fun! Big slides and fun to go on. We also went to the shopping centre which had lots of shops! I was amazed how many British shops were there too.

We paid the extra for a sea view room and it was amazing. Looking right on to the pool and the sea. The room was very spacey and lots of room for our luggage! Massive television and fridge.

The main pool is sea salt water but I didn't have a problem with that and they are fairly deep. Some people were moaning about how cold it was - It wasn't that bad! Who wants to get in a hot pool while you are in a hot country??

There was a little train outside the hotel which travelled around the area. This was a lovely thing to do, especially when it's too hot to walk.

Sun beds - there are LOTS of sun beds! If you want a sun bed in front of the pool then I would suggest you put towels down early morning but otherwise there are lots to choose from.

Overall I thought this holiday was amazing! Better than what we were both expecting. I would ignore all the bad reviews - it is amazing!

We were a little nervous after reading some not so good reviews on here but agreed that we would go with an open mind and see for ourselves. We travelled on 12th June for a 10 night AI, myself husband and 3 year old son. Check in was bit manic, big queue but the receptionists handled it as quickly as they could.

We were on the top floor, 5th in room 559 which looks out to the front of the hotel, at first disappointed to not have pool or sea view but watching the sun set over the Sierra Nevada each night we were pleased in the end! A bit concerned about being on the top floor with a young child as the patio door was easily opened by pulling the handle down but we simply kept the curtains pulled across and something in front of the door at all times. The rooms are of average size, clean but not a great deal of storage space, all modular furniture, no drawers etc but not a big deal on the whole.

Food was in plentiful choice in the buffet restaurant, and they have a 'show cooking' area towards the back right hand corner which cook fresh pancakes, eggs and omelettes for breakfast and then meats/fish etc for dinner. I didn't particularly like to eat dinner in this restaurant as it got very busy in the evenings and felt a little like a school canteen. Great though that there were 3 different a la carte restaurants that you can eat in as many times as you like, you just have to book each day for that evening and after a week when it became busier you had to queue to book. The drinks included were great, wine by the bottle, cava, basic cocktails, juice, water, hot chocolate, coffees etc. our particular favourite for food was the little restaurant by the kids play area for lunch, one waiter here in particular very friendly (others throughout could be a little abrupt), tall guy, bald, really lovely, practised our Spanish with him in return for English sayings! Then the restaurant by the main pool for dinner, wine served here much better that in main buffet restaurant but was told the wine they serve in each should be the same offered, it isn't, discovered this on the last night when we had to eat in buffet restaurant as been on day trip so couldn't book, asked for a bottle of Laman red as that's what they serve when you ask for red in the a la carte's, they brought us a bottle then a bill!? After a discussion they tore up the bill, a little drama but a shame on our last night.

The pool areas are lovely, the kids pool with slides is great, our son loved it but much preferred the quieter kids pool to the side of the main salt water pool, shame about the main pool being salt water. Sunbeds were plentiful but like all places bagged by towels, some the night before!

The beach stretches for, miles, backed by a promenade and is so pretty such a shame it is shingle, to the left out of the hotel to the beach is the castle and marina, 20min walk and to the right is more like the resort centre, again about a 20min walk where you can find shops, bars and restaurants and a small kids 'fair' where the Gorilla is!

Not a great deal to do outside of the resort, we did the mini Hollywood trip which was a good day out and we also got bus ourselves to Almeria, less than 2 euros each way, not a great deal here but nice to get out of resort.

The entertainment is a little hit and miss, kids disco doesn't start til 9.15pm and some nights was early, others late and varied in length too.

Outside the front of the hotel you can hire a horse and carriage, get the land train and hire bikes. The bikes were great fun, we hired one on a couple of occasions, 10 euros an hour. The land train is a good way to see the whole of roquetas and our son loved it.

Heard a few people mention 'the bug' but we were fine and seemed to escape that, even though we ate paella and pasta between us most days, which is what people were saying was causing it.

All in all we had a great time, super value for money.

Like others I did read mixed reviews on this hotel,we stayed in 'Park', not 'Gardens' although both hotels are part of same resort. As such all pools etc are used by everyone in resort. Same is true for food. There are several restaurants but you can choose although some you have to reserve at 12pm for evening meal.I recommend trying Carlos's as all food is cooked to order and you have waiter's despite us being AI its a nice touch esp as it only seats approx 50 ppl it makes for a nice experience.
Being AI you do not really need money as even bottled water is given freely as often as required. I have never had free bottled water on any AI holidays before.
Initially intended to hire a car but soon realized that there is no real places to discover, there is not a lot in Almeria.that was evident during transfer from airport.
The park hotel was great as are the pool and slides. Resort is also very near to sea, beach is gravel, not sand as ppl have already
mentioned.
There are no tabak shops near park hotel so if u smoke u could use vending machine near bar,USE COINS As if u use a note and fags have sold out and machine had no coins you will lose your money! TEN Euro lesson from me that happened day of departure so no time to try get resolved. Tabak shop is 15 min walk near Gorilla play area ,check opening times from rep before you set off. Shut by 20.30!
Local restaurants outside hotel do have vending machines too but they work via a remote control and will not work til activated, cost us a round of drinks to then be able to get pack of fags ,this one never took notes but we didn't have enough change, live and learn eh?
Overall its a good resort if u have kids and enjoy staying around resort.

The rooms were lovely and very well maintained. Maid service is excellent and service in the bars is very good. The all inclusive package was better than a lot of places I've been. The food in the main restaurants can be improved, but there's usually something for most tastes. Most of it is Spanish cuisine -the beef and pork dishes are very good. There are also 3 other restaurants on the complex serving a variety of foods, but you will need to book into them. Worth a go.

The pools are great, clean and well maintained. The kids pool with the slides is good for all ages. The gym is good, lots of machines and weights and a member of staff always in attendance. There's an arcade in both hotels for kids with pool, air hockey etc. and table tennis. The entertainment leaves a lot to be desired. Usually on a two week holiday I'd expect to see the same act twice. Here it's every 3 days. And some of them are not very good.

Nearby shops aren't much to shout about but there's a few bars over the road. The beach is small stones, but it's very clean and sun beds are very cheap for a day or week. The stones get very hot so keep flip flops on. The weather was fantastic, a bit windy some days but very hot most of the time. You'll be glad of the air conditioned rooms.

The were lots of different nationalities in the hotel; British, Germans, Danes, Dutch, Russians, Belgians and Spanish. Have to say that I've never holidayed in mainland Spain before and I'd have to think about it a lot before I do again. The staff were great, but the Spanish holiday makers were very rude.

On the whole we enjoyed our time here, a well run hotel, good facilities and right on the beach. The only criticism of the hotel is the entertainment, which needs addressing. A good, family orientated place in a nice location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool, the others overlook the car park.

Arrived home today after two weeks at Zoraida Park. There was really mixed reviews between the time we booked and when we went so didn't really know what to expect, but myself, my partner and our two year old daughter really enjoyed it. Rooms were a great size and cleaned every day with fresh towels. The only problem i had with the room was that the door locks didn't actually lock the door. If we locked the front door my daughter just had to pull the handle to open it easily which is always a worry. Although i'm unsure whether this was just our room or all rooms.
Pools were fantastic, there were loads of sunbeds and parasols. But the second week was so busy that if you wanted a sunbed at all you'd have to get out there early.
Food was fantastic, great choices and always something for everyone. The drinks choice was also brilliant and had cocktails, milkshakes, cava and pepsi all on all inclusive. Always served cold with ice!
As i said before, the second week was so busy. Breakfast especially was manic unless you went at 8am when it opened.
They have free wifi but it's very temperamental and usually didn't work.
Definitely isn't an area for tourists as there really isn't alot outside of the hotel, so unless you're someone that doesn't like to leave to resort i wouldn't recommend this hotel.
We went on the horse and carriage which is outside the hotel. It cost 25 euros for half an hour, my daughter loved it but wasn't much to see other than villas and apartments.
All in All we had a great time, if we went back again though it would be a little earlier in the year to avoid the crowds and only for a week!
