Playacapricho Hotel

Just returned from the Playa Capricho and must say a little disappointed. For a 4* hotel it is in serious need of a revamp as certainly is tired looking. However, room was clean and tidy and food was tasty with plenty of choice so found something to eat every meal time. What was strange was the removal truck arriving to empty rubbish skips directly under my window at 1.30 in the morning.

Customer service is rather poor and not very welcoming at all, although 2 of the bar staff and one member of the restaurant team did try and put effort in most of the time. When we first arrived the hotel was pretty quiet and relaxing but by the middle of our ten day holiday there was a mass invasion of Spanish guests, who I found extremely rude and ignorant, and they certainly did nothing to control their children who took over the whole of the swimming pool and surrounding area. Now I have children and grandchildren of my own so am no stick in the mud and love to see kids have fun on holiday but I do not find dive bombing elderly guests in the swimming pool amusing at all, they were a total disgrace to their own nation and so were their parents who never corrected them once.

As soon as the Spanish guests arrived all other guest must of been wearing an invisible sign as no matter whether you we're first up the bar, if a Spaniard came up after you, you would have no chance of being served as it appeared the Spanish guests were given priority over every one else, and the already miserable staff became even more miserable as if they were doing you a favour.

Where were the animation team? Oh yes, entertaining the Spanish, not once were we spoke to or acknowledged by any member of animation, either during the day or through the Spanish evening entertainment.

This is one part of Spain I will not return to or recommend, as although I thoroughly enjoy learning about other cultures, hence why I holiday abroad, this is no place to learn anything apart from how very rude and miserable the staff and guests are.

Room Tip: Definitely don't have a room that over looks the street unless you like being woken by the refus...

We've stayed at the Playa Capricho several times and find it suits our needs just fine. Spanish in character (but, hey, that's why you're going to Spain, right?), and well-positioned within the resort, the staff are friendly and helpful. Food is plentiful and varied and of a good standard - there is show cooking from the grill at breakfast, lunch and dinner. We always choose a room overlooking the street from the balcony rather than overlooking the pool or the sea (each to their own) as we like to watch the 'goings on' below - and to enjoy the afternoon and evening sunshine. We can thoroughly recommend the restaurant opposite, called Il Teatro, or if you want to push the boat out, there's a one-star Michelin in Roquetas port called Alejandro. You won't find any boisterous Brits in Roquetas although there are a few friendly English bars scattered about (the Wednesday night quiz with a meal at Bar Lay Lady Lay in Calle Sierra Nevada is good fun and they do amazing tapas, too).

stayed here in june last year when it was football fever everywere. this hotel is mostely visited by spanish guests when we where there. But that didn't bother us at all. The hotel staff is very friendly. When arriving there was something wrong with our room type that we had booked. That problem whas solved in a minute. we booked a suite with seaview it was lovely and great room. very clean an tidy. Staff is always cleaning and running around trying to please everyone. This hotel is in a good location. 100m of a bus stop so very easy to take the bus and go where ever you want to go. We had excelent weather. The food is very good for a 4 star hotel. Everyone can find something. all and all this is the second time we came here and we will come again.

When living in Spain,Christmas/New year was spent at the Playacapricho. We visited again last November, and in view of the recession were a little aprehensive.
In spite of staff cuts ,the acomodation was kept well and the food was as we remembered plenty of choice .
We hope to return in April and WILL REVIEW THEN.

An average 4 star hotel, which needs some refurbishing due to her age.

The pros:
Very spacious hall and, in general, every corner.
The cons:
The years has not passed flawlessly: The paintings were decoloured, the bathrooms, very old.

Playacapricho is not a place for young people. All winter long the hotel is a refuge for old German folks who escape the freezing German winter. The hotel is old too, but is kept at a very nice level. The rooms are small but clean. Breakfast is an impressive buffet with lots and lots of choices. Service is excellent and prices are low (at least in winter). However, the atmosphere is not for the young. Even the bar is always packed with old German folks.

Room Tip: Avoid the first floor!!!!

We have chosen this hotel because we have little dog from 1.8 kilo and never leave her behind. Had to pay €21 extra for the dog, so we think we are welcome with the dog. First day not much problems because we arrived round 2pm checked in and went away with the car to explore. Next day wanted to have a nice breakfast together in the hotel. But the chef from the restaurant was thinking something else. He was waving his hand like a Nazi at us and the doggy (1.8kg) that we had to go out. So we did, we have never been so humiliated. Then we went to the reception and told what happened, and he told us you can go separate or leave the dog on the room. If we go on a short break we want to eat together, and if they except €21 for a dog from 1.8kg I assume that we were not only aloud from the front door till the elevator and then to the room like he told us . And if you read the advertisement they have laying around you get 50% discount on pets and they are very welcome yea right. Also we think they have to do some renovation work and new beds, we still feel the springs. We do not recommend
