“Wonderfull family holiday”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

Thankyou to everyone at the wonderfull Protur Roquetas.
From the amazing stewardship of Victor the manager supreme who seemed to be on hand 24/7 and nothing was too much trouble.
The amazing Chefs who cooked some of the most amazing fish dishes we have ever eaten.
The bar staff who remembered everyones tipple after the first day no matter which bar or restaurant we were in.
The army of cleaning ants who were constantly keeping the place looking amazing.
And Avi and all the Animation team always with massive smiles on there faces.
Very sorry if anyone has been missed.
Other hotel chains could certainly learn a thing or too from this fabulous place.
We shall certainly return.
All the best Mark Deb Beth Grace Ken Derek Jenny & John

We have just returned from one week All Inclusive holiday which, was recommended by friends.

It was everything that you would expect from a 5*. The Hotel was always spotlessly clean, the room was excellent with two balcony's. The food was always of a high standard with plenty of choice. So too the drinks!!!!

The staff were first class and this starts at the top. The Hotel Manager, Victor was always about and spoke to us everyday. His high expectations and customer care shone through and this showed with happy helpful staff.

We will be returning customers next summer.

Thank you Victor and all his staff.

Went for 2 weeks 15 to 29 May for second holiday, first one was May 2013. Had a great welcome from all staff and some remembered us which was nice. This is a great hotel for anyone wanting a relaxing time in a quiet area. The rooms are very clean, towels and linen changed regularly. Only problem was getting out of the bath because of the narrow opening between the shower screen and screen at the side of the basins. All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble for them, wish I could remember all their names but special thanks to Miguel (a big hug for bambino Michael), Lola, Olga and Tania (with her lovely smile and naughty sweets). Victor you have inherited a great team. Food is plentiful and varied, lunch can be taken either by the pool bar or in the restaurant, fresh fruit. always available. The spa is well worth a visit, my partner had a leg massage which cured his aching legs, well worth the money.
There are a few bars across the road from hotel and shops about 15 minutes walk along a flat promenade, but as stated this is a quiet area, a bonus for anyone who has experienced the stag and hens culture of more lively Spanish resorts (at one we had to get security up at 4a.m. and using the pool was impossible because of the drunken, foul mouthed guests (women and men). There is a bus from outside the hotel to the Thursday market, opposite the Gran Plaza shopping area and also to Almeria, on return make sure you get a bus that is going to the hotel and not just to Roquetas, the hotel will give you a time table and outline the bus you need, just show the relevant line to the driver. The area around the hotel is very flat and ideal for the less mobile. The Castille Santa Anna is well worth a visit, (about 40 minutes flat walk there and 40 mins back, although the Almeria bus stops at the Castille.
The evening entertainment was a bit hit a miss but try talking and having a laugh with new friends this is just as enjoyable. Ignore ANY negative comments about this hotel and it's great staff, they are probably posted by the guests that never smiled or took trouble to speak to people.
Victor, once again thank you and ALL the staff, we had a lovely time and hope to see you all again in 2015.
Comment: It would be useful to have scales to weigh luggage before the flight home.

Room Tip: Rooms in right wing from reception get sun a.m. and left wing p.m. Worth booking sea/pool view room...

Myself and two friends stayed here 15th May for one week. Wasnt sure what to expect as have been to Riu Hotels for last couple of years and didnt think anything would match them. We had a lovely week, really lovely hotel and staff. Had a great time round the pool. Joined in the Yoga,, the aqua aerobics, even got dragged into the water polo which was a great laugh. The entertainment people worked so hard and were so enthusiastic.
Room was lovely, everything we needed, great view of the pool and sea. It was unreasonably windy the week we were there but was still hot and got a good tan. The lazy river was brilliant to swim in although very cold!. Food was good with a lot of choice. Will definitely be returning in the future. Lovely hotel!

Room Tip: We were in room 255 and had a great view of pool and sea and quite near reception.

We did the all-inclusive deal and the food and drinks where amazing!.
Unfortunately it was quite windy when we were there so we didn't swim in the sea as it was quite big waves but the hotel had a great pool and sunbeds so we really didn’t mind.
The esplanade which is between the hotel and the beach was really good for long nice walks or runs.
The bar closed around 11-12 but after that it wasn’t a lot of other places to go for drinks or dancing if you are after a party.

I'll start this by saying, I went here for a week to escape everything with my partner. For that it was perfect.

Location (3/5)
Some people have said it is remote and run-down. It is remote, but run-down doesn't seem fair. We went in mid-May a few places were getting ready for peak season. The shops are far away (as is everything!) but if what you're after is a week away from it all this was fab. Whilst the beach may look golden, however, it is a sandy-shell-stone affair and there is no dedicated to the hotel beachfront. Weather was a bit windy, but that's probably due to the time of year (at one point the parasols and beds were in the pool!).

Hotel and Accommodation (4/5)
The hotel itself is a lovely modern-marble affair - it has all the necessary facilities - Spa, Pool, Games Room etc and it is probably this that makes it 5*. The pool area is great, and the room we had (room 525) had a great view and we had paid for an upgrade to a Jacuzzi Suite which was lovely. Wi-fi was however poor - slow and limited to 3 devices per room. Sadly a sewer-type smell seemed to invade the basement floor (where most evening entertainment was) that was disgusting.

Entertainment (2/5)
This was poor. I've done all-inclusives for a few years now, and none are great, and this hotel suffers because of the wide demographics it is trying to cater for - Pensioners, Families (young and old), Couples. The day kids activities disturb everyone around the pool area (and up on the balconies), whilst the evening entertainment was repetitive - the same magic show twice in a week is pushing it a bit as well.

Food and Drink (3/5)
Drinks are good - most are proper spirits, but there are supplements onto a lot of it too. Cocktails were poor. Sex on the beach, for example tastes like an alcoholic Solero (which sounds fine and was, but was not a sex on the beach without cranberry juice). House wine was ok at a push. Food was mixed. Breakfast is great, though. Lunch is a bit dire as the selection becomes a lot more limited and you rely on the chef's frying plate. Which is prepared very well and with a friendly smile. After 5 days, however, we found ourselves eating out. Then there are the two a-la-cartes. Set menus, no atmosphere, and one waiter desperately trying to make your evening better. Sadly, we were seated in La Brasserie on seats covered in bird mess, and attacked by flies when the lights were put on. In La Sal the plates, glasses and cutlery were covered in a film of black dust (maybe we were the first to eat in there in sometime). Both had no music or entertainment which was unusual. The starters were poor (I had a green salad that was literally a bowl of lettuce and two cherry tomatoes) and the desserts were from the Buffet, but the mains were absolutely worth the wait. Hats off there. The buffet itself is very confusing but when busy is dangerous. Likewise, as you seat yourself you can be waiting until after you've had your second course before you're offered a drink - after the first day we ended up serving ourselves. Food itself here was mixed, I always found something, but rarely had multiple choices and one night it was particularly dire as the queue at the pasta and tomato sauce station attested but you can't please everyone.

Service - (3/5)
Now it's not bad AT ALL. I need to make that clear, but its so far from 5* I've had elsewhere its a bit daunting to see 5* vinyls everywhere. I think this is just the difference in approach. Elsewhere for example, you are served poolside by waiters taking drinks orders. Not here - queue at a bar, if indeed anyone is even at the front and not having a chat in the back. When you do get service however, its always friendly and professional. Same in the buffet - elsewhere I've been seated and had the drinks order taken then, not seat yourself and wait an eternity or self-serve. They were also a bit over-eager on taking away plates (mine was taken as I had the fork in my mouth). It's by no means bad, it's just not quite as good as I had hoped.

Overall I had a great break but wouldn't go again, it was just enough to make me want to come home, which has never happened before. It's not against the team that run it, but if they got rid of the weird smell and brushed up on the service it could be so much better, we all accept all-in entertainment is a mixed bag. Thomson actually rate this as a 4T, despite its official 5* rating and I can see why.

Room Tip: The jacuzzi was well-worth the upgrade to a Superior Suite and our room (525) had a great view of th...
