“Good training base....”
Reviewed 2 August 2013

I have just spent 14 days Triathlon training, staying in the hotel and have to say i was very pleasantly surprised. The cleanliness, quality of the buffet food, amenities for training ( pool, gym, shops) are very good, and very well priced. The only negative comments I have are no free wifi and would repeat that the mattresses of the beds need to be of a higher quality.

The Olympic pool is excellent, the information provided for the cycle routes/training is also well prepared.... Although be warned, with the hills, heat and wind it can be challenging (road users are very respectful though).

For a training base or active family vacation, it will take some beating. Just be warned, for those who like to explore.... There really is very little nearby!

Room Tip: Booked a sea view junior suite(7406), good size and great views....the balcony is not large but gets...

Must admit to not being a fan of package holidays ("charter" for Scandinavians reading this).
This place is very different in two respects:

First, it does not feel very crowded. We were there during the Easter break, which you would assume to be one of the busiest weeks at this resort. Very few things were or became fully booked and there were lots of places in all restaurants even at peak dining hours.

Second, the crowd is very different. Most people are here for the sport so you would really stick out guzzling food and colourful drinks by the pool, occupying ten deckchairs just in case all your family and friends would show up at the same time...

However, it is not a superluxury resort either, so if you are looking to relax, order room service and be pampered by a personal butler provided by the establishment, you should go elsewhere.

What you will have in common with the other guests (my guess during our week was 50% Scandinavians, 30% Germans and the rest mainly Brits and Dutch-speaking people) is an interest in fitness and sport. If you know the top Triathletes of your country, you might see them train here. Our kids spotted Lisa Norden, the Swedish Triathlon World Champion, and our youngest was really happy to get her little certificate signed by Lisa at the end of the week. (Don't forget your swim cap, otherwise you need to buy one to get into the Olympic Pool.)

We stayed in a villa on recommendation of friends with kids who had been at Playitas five(!) times before and had tried all three options (hotel, apartment, villa) and arrived at the conclusion that the villa was by far the best option for their family. We understand completely!

Two practical points with the villas: (1) the dishwasher is very efficient, but why not bring 5-10 tablets in your luggage together with a kitchen towel for the glasses (you will want to drink more often than you want to run the dishwasher) and (2) the Padilla supermarket in Gran Tarajal has anything the excellent little Supermarket on site does not, but all packages may not have English text and the Padilla staff do not have the same command of English as the staff at the resort, so brush up on the most essential Spanish for that occasion, especially if you need to consider allergies or diet when shopping.

Finally, the golf is very underrated. I did not go to Playitas mainly to play golf and I assume only a few guests do. Looking at par 67, eight par 3s and 4800 meters from the white tees, you might be forgiven for thinking "Mickey Mouse" and book tee-times elsewhere instead.
This is completely wrong! The combination of a wind that always blows, narrow fast-running fairways and slick greens makes this a real challenge, especially for your short game. Yet, this is a course your kids or your mother (if you bring her...) will also enjoy - all the distance the ball rolls...
Also, with all the changes in elevation you get a nice work-out just by walking the course!

Thinking of coming back here already....

I spent 7 days here, staying at the hotel. The villas and apartments were booked out. The cleanliness, quality of buffet food, amenities for training ( pool, gym, shops) are top class. It is no wonder Europe's top athletes train here. The trail runs are excellent also.

I had some misgivings initially when our party booked this place, as I assumed the worst ( i,e trapped in a poor quality resort, miles from nowhere) .However my fears were unfounded.

The one suggestion improvement I would have is that the matresses of the bed needs to be of a higher quality.

Give this place serious consideration if you are planning a sports based vacation.

We spent a week at Playitas resort in one of the villas, and loved every minute of it. Playitas is situated on the east coast of Fuerteventura, around 40 min drive south from the airport.

There are no neighbouring hotels or resorts, only the small sleepy village of Playitas on the other side of a hill or a short walk on the beach, so very quiet and peaceful, but do rent a car to get out and see a bit more of this beautiful island.

The villa we rented had two large bedrooms with ensuite baths, a kitchen and a living/dining area, very well maintained, good cleaning, comfy large beds, lots of towels and high standard. Our pool was used a lot by the whole family, and there are also 3-4 common pools by the hotel and apartment areas.

There are loads of sports to choose from; biking, running, swimming, aerobics, tennis, sailing, walking in the hills, to mention a few. Very good facilities. The beach is ok but there are better ones elsewhere on the island.

Food; we had a breakfast only arrangement, very good choice and a nice sunny terrace overlooking the ocean made a great start of the day. We tried one the a la carte restuarants, not very exciting, this would be the only negative about Playitas. Staff very friendly and helpful.

All in all, one of the best resorts we have been to, will recommend it to friends..

Room Tip: Rent a villa if you are a family with kids

Our week at Playitas was all we wished for. The race and mtb bikes were first class and the seveal fintness classes are absolutely great. We stayed in the apartments with our own terrace and wonderful sea view. Very spacious and tidy apartments (junior suite) with comfy beds and a big bathroom.
Great combo of sports, relaxing and great food!
The food was eery night a feast, excellent quality and lots of choice. The bar in the evening provides super mojito's and a large variety of coffees.
Were already dreaming of our next stay...

Our week at Playitas was just amazing. We couldn’t wish for anything more. The training facilities and classes are absolutely first class, welcoming and something for all levels at all times. We stayed in the apartments with our own terrace and wonderful sea view. Very nice and tidy apartments with comfy beds and a small kitchen. Sometimes we heard our neighbors but never after 11pm – overall a very quiet resort taking into account the number of people in such a small area. Breakfast (and dinner) served in the restaurant has something for every taste! The local staff is just amazing, especially to the children. We didn’t go to Playitas for sunbathing. If we would have, we would probably have become a bit disappointed that particular week. You find the most basic stuff in the supermarket at the resort but it is worth to take the busride or taxi to the bigger shop in the nearby town. There you also find nice restaurants and cafes along the beach.

Went back for my 4th time to Playitas resort and they now have a Spa...chocolate massage highly recommended!!! Hotel staff are very tentative..I arrived after 9pm on the 26th December, dinner had already finished, and they'd put a little spread of cold meats, bread, fruit, water in my room. How good is that, well I was impressed, and because I knew I'd miss the shop I packed a bottle of wine so I really enjoyed the spread.

Room was clean and the bathroom was spotless and smelt clean and fresh!! Towels changed daily.

Introduction of wristbands make life easier for everyone.

The classes were great. There was only 1 dodgy instructor, but with experience I'm sure she will get there. The gym was fantastic, and the daily 30min abs workout given by one of the instructors was very effective.

Love going at this time of the year as the weather is perfect for a Brit who doesn't want to sit baking all day in the sun 22 - 25 deg and breezy, lovely!!

There is a well stocked shop, though I only bought water and wine, but it has everything you can think of, and the staff are friendly.

Buffet was excellent, and something for everyone! Unluckily I got flu on NYeve so I didn't appreciate the special NYeve buffet, but I was told it was good.

I have 2 grips: they should have free Wi-Fi in all the rooms, and the pillow are too soft but that's a personal preference.

I'll be back in 2014 for my 50th!
