Easy to find Hotel, short walk to beach, bit steep need to be reasonably fit. Resort Somo lots of fish restaurants, bit quiet but from here you can get a ferry to Santander. Look out for good market on quayside on Monday in Santander. We are also visisted St Vincent, worth a visit.
The weather was overcast at times. Beach lovely, no sunbeds to hire so take own beach chairs. Very popular for surfing and body boarding.
Food in hotel restaurant was exquisite, staff very friendly and helpful. Very spanish resort did not meet any other English families. Would recommend, very relaxing holiday.

Have stayed in Somo before and this hotel is by far the best. The rooms are beautiful and the photos on the website are a true reflection of what its like. It is a short walk up hill so would not suit anyone who finds that difficult but is well worth it. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. The set dinner menu was very good and reasonably priced. The surf was great too.
Would love to go again!

The hotel rooms are well designed and very clean. The hotel staff were friendly.

It is a quiet hotel with a great location for the beach. It is a good 15 minute walk into town, with quite a steep hill on the way back. Glad we had a hire car!!

The hotel had no English speaking TV in the room - not a problem as it meant more time for reading and strolling around, although it would be handy to have SKY News!

The drinks in the hotel were reasonably priced. The food was pretty average, which was a shame. The continental breakfast was pretty poor.

If you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful break then you could do a lot worse than this very good little hotel.

If you prefer a really good beach, this hotel is a good alternative to Santander hotels. It is a four-star hotel with rooms in beautiful, ethnic-inspired design, but with two-star food. However, you can walk down to Somo for excellent seafood dinners, so we could avoid the hotel restaurant. In detail:
Location: Somo is located across the Bay from Santander. From the hotel, you walk 1.3 km to the pier where the ferry boats depart every 30 min to Santander. It is a very scenic 20 min-ride right into downtown Santander. By car, driving time would also be 20 min. The hotel is located on top of the dunes and you walk 400 m through the dunes to the gorgeous beach. The way back is pretty steep, but still pleasant. Our son did it daily with his surfboard.
Building: The hotel is quite new, built in traditional North Spanish style. Inside, the design is inspired by African themes. The lobby is cozy, and for rainy days they have a covered terrace.
Rooms: The rooms are not large, but very tasteful decorated. The bathrooms are equipped with a bathtub and are modern and nice. There is neither a mini-bar nor a fridge in the rooms.
Pool: The hotel has a quite nice medium-sized pool, not heated, but warm enough in July. You can get pool/beach towels at the reception.
Bar: The bar is very popular. They prepare amazing longdrinks. Everything - beer, wine, liquor - is incredibly inexpensive.
Food: Dining is ridiculously bad (see picture) - barely adequate for a hotel on two-star level. However, 1 km away in downtown Somo, there is a fantastic seafood restaurant, El Galeon. And if you want to eat on Michelin-star-level, you find options in Santander (El Serbal) and in the surrounding towns (Cenador de Amos, a 10 min-20 Euros-taxi ride away). Breakfast is okay, but certainly below the level which we know from other four-star hotels in Spain.
Service: Immaculate. Taxi reservations etc. went very smoothly.
Value: Since you have no extra costs, value is still good.

Just back from a week at the Torres and what a great hotel - a real find.

Location - you really do need a car to stay here, I didn't have one and found myself making the lengthy trek into town every day. But if you had a car, the hotel has parking and is just over the road (and through the forrest) from Somo beach which is simply stunning.

Accommdation - the rooms are beautiful, really thoughtfully decorated and very comfortable.

Food - breakfast is a good continental breakfast but maybe a little overpriced at 11Euros. Lunch is basic snacks at the bar but then why would you want to stay in the hotel all day? Dinner is okay - really friendly service and some nice food but they served chips with everything which becomes dull after a day or two. Again, if you had a car, you could drive into the village and have a choice of places to eat.

Activities - come here to surf or kitesurf, the beach is amazing, truly consistent even in late summer. There were 3ft+ waves every day for all but a couple of hours in total. There is a surf school which is very popular and has maybe 20 people in the water each AM and PM but fortunately the beach is 4miles long so never a problem getting a spot to yourself. Best go to the east end of the beach before the huge rocks, this is where the locals surf and for good reason. Watch the tides - at high tide it's an amazing place to surf but at low tide there can be very strong currents at times.

Area - Cantabria is so beautiful and tranquil. The beaches are out of this world and the mountains stunning. This is a real get away from it all. Somo has the basics - a few restaurants and shops (though the supermarket closes from mid-September). It's 20mins (30Euros in a taxi) to Santander airport which is very modern and easy to navigate. Get to Sanrtander itself by ferry (20 mins, 2.20Euros) but this only runs until 8.30pm in winter.

Overall - this is a great hotel, it has such character and the staff are perhaps the friendliest I've ever come across. I've stayed in world class 5-star hotels but enjoyed staying here more.

What a great find this small family run hotel was. Like all our hotel searches we devoted almost a day of research on the internet before we found this one. (We found the research makes all the difference between having a good time or a fantastic break). Well we've done the research for you. This hotel is almost brand new. We stayed there shortly after it was built. It's oppsite a small forest and one can walk straight through that down a steep incline and on to a wonderful beach.
Great for sufers (The altlantic waves come crashing in) but NOT for families with young kids. The waves are fierce and there are rip currenst which one has to know how to deal with. Even experienced swimmers get pulled out so this is not a beach holiday for the faint hearted. Its wild and natural. You wont find a concrete espalade here with ice cream shops and bars.

But the hotel has a wonderful pool located in a tranquil garden shaded by trees. Thats great for families and safe too. The design of the hotel is utterly charming, Its finished to a very high standard and has a disabled room on the ground floor which proved very useful for the elderly person who accompanied us. The terrace overlooking the garden is an absolute delight, the buffet breakfast was delcious and the evening meals enjoyable. You have to make your own entertainment here, so its ideally suited to come there with a partner or a group of close freinds. Even going alone, this hotel is the kind of size where you can get to know others with out to much effort if you want.

Nacho the receptionist was very polite and most helpful. Miguel the waiter was very attentive to everyones needs and accomodating to changing orders. The staff were all very well trained. My compliments to the hotel owners. You have created a great little sanctuary here!

Bars and nightlife are available in Santandare across the bay which can be reached easily enough by a short car journey and a ferry ride. So the town is not far away if you want shopping, but this is complemented by the tranquility of the hotels location.

A seriously good location to recuperate after a stressful time. Lots of rest and relaxation. And amaxing drives into the mountains. Really unusually landscapes, forests, walks, ancient abandoned Spanish stone houses, crumbling as the agricultural sector declined (many just waiting to be restored). Potentially intresting retirements projects and close to the border with France too. There is an amazing zoo and landscape nearbye (cant remember the name) - just totally extrodinary. Never seen anything like it before. Take a discount flight, hire a care and explore.

I've been hosted in this 4 star hotel during an april weekend in 2006.

This is a new hotel, ethincally decored -with japanese or kenyan paintings and with teka wooden fournitures on the rooms which give them a indochina look-

The building itself is a british style building with no indoor parking -only outdoor- located in the Arna neighbourhood (3 minutes by car to the Somo downtown but a bit hard to find the first time). Although it is only 5 minutes in walking distance to a great beach, the rooms have no sights to it, but to a forest.

We had the suite and although it had a 2 person jacuzzi, we missed some things, for instance: a king size bed, a bigger tv with more channels, a dvd or a hi-fi stereo, a minibar or in fact a bit larger room.

The staff is great: very kind, useful and knowing a lot of things about Somo, Pedreña, Ajo or Santander. The restaurant and the breakfast are also good.

The price is not cheap, specially in summer but it seems to be the best hotel of Somo (although it is not in the very downtown). I thing they have good offers out of season.

I would probably return but i don't know if the suite deserves the difference of price with a standard room.

The beach of Somo is unbelievable and you can took a boat through the bay to the city of Santander (20 minutes), play golf in Pedreña of eat typical paella in Ajo.
