My boyfriend and I took a trip to Cantabria in early June and booked all our accomodation based on internet reviews. I must admit that we were slightly nervous about this, especially where it concerned the Hotel El Castillo. Basically, it looked fantastic but the price seemed too good to be true.

Well, I can now say with complete sincerity that the El Castillo is probably the nicest and best value little hotels I've ever stayed in. The rooms are huge, lovely and extremely quiet. The view is utterly stupendous - you can't put a price on this. If you moved this place to Cornwall, you'd pay £150 a night. The thing is, we paid that for 3 nights!

The staff were utterly charming and extremely helpful during our stay. The breakfast was delicious and we really enjoyed relaxing in the conservatory or in room with a bottle of wine watching the light change on the expanse of sea outside.

We loved this place, and it really became clear how special it was when we moved on to a 5 star hotel in Santillana del Mar and it was nowhere near as good.

Highly recommend this place, but it won't stay secret for long.

Room Tip: I don't think you can get a bad room here, but the ones on the West side have the spectacular vi...

The previous reviewers have spoken about the stunning views, well it's true, they are stunning. Make sure you ask fro a room overlooking Los Locos beach you won't be disappointed. Regards the hotel itself - the rooms are decorated completely individually, we looked at 3 rooms while our room was being prepared, and they were all very nice and totally different to each other. If you want views of the headland and Suance, ask for the rooms in the castle tower. Our room (no 7) had two large comfortable leather chairs with a floor to ceiling window overlooking the sea - stunning...The included breakfast is fine - coffee / tea - freshly squeezed orange juice and a large croissant with jam - perfectly adequate to keep you going until lunch in one of the great seafood restaurants around the town. There's a bar in the hotel which also serves snack type food - pizza's etc. and has a conservatory with those same stunning views.

The staff in the hotel speak very little English - but are extremely helpful and were very patient with or phrase book Spanish. The hotel is great value for what you pay.

The hotel has easy access to both the main Suance beach and the surf beach Los Locos down fairly long steps, but both are fantastic with golden sands and clear blue waters.

Well worth a visit if you're in Northern Spain.

this hotel is in a spectacular location on the headland above two beaches at the edge of suances. the rooms are nicely decorated in a quirky local style, however the views out over the beach and ocean are truly stunning, particularly at sunset. the beaches are on the doorstep of the hotel, with the main restaurants a short walk away, though beware the hotel is up and down a windy steep road from the town centre where the supermarkets and souvenir shops are found (a car is helpful). our only criticism was the breakfast; essentially no choice and quite overpriced. the friendly staff speak a little english, so we struggled to communicate at times, a phrase book is key unless you are a confident spanish speaker. the hotel was clean and comfortable and was a great base for exploring the area, with pretty towns, fabulous national parks and the prehistoric caves within reasonable driving distance.

This hotel is very romantic if you get a sea facing room.
My partner and I travelled Northern Spain on his Harley and actually came back to spend another night.
We had views over the whole bay of Bisq, the sun sets right infront of your eyes!

The food was ok, you def pay a little more for the location but so worth it!

If you are looking to propose or get in good books I would book this place up straight away!!!

Staff were friendly but didnt speak much english but that didnt stop us having fun!

wifi was abuot 5euros for 24hours so not to shabby!!!

I would say 3* not 1!!!!

TOP IT ALL OFF GREAT SURFING OPS JUST BELOW!

Room Tip: rooms with a sea window are a MUST!

Characterful rooms, friendly staff ( spanish speaking only- luckily my husbands speaks some and understands most spanish ), but the best is the amazing view of the ocean; watching the sun go down and seeing the colours of skye and water change was a breathtaking sight and we watched it in comfort from our armchairs every night during our stay and felt so lucky ! We are going again in May 2012......
