“Good value hotel with ideal location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2010

I was a little apprehensive about staying having read some of the reviews but with a 6 night stay during peak season costing £300 per room, I set myself realistic expectations before going and was pleasantly surprised.

The reception staff were very welcoming on arrival. My friend and I had a twin bed with Sea views. The hotel is just 400 metres walk from the beach and lots of shops/restaurants very close by. There is free wifi available which is an added bonus, so you can connect your smartphone though the signal was a bit weak in the room.

The rooms were fairly basic but more than acceptable for our purpose of somewhere to sleep and get ready for evenings. The bathroom was clean and had everything one needed. The beds were fairly comfortable but with no air conditioning it did get rather hot at night. There is no safe in the room and the door locks were a bit old however we didn't have significant valuables so felt our belongings were safe. We only ate the free breakfast once but there was plenty of food on offer.

One thing to note is the hotel is locked about 12.30/1am each night so if like us you get back later then you have to bang on the door and awake the night porter!

I would say the hotel is more in the 2 star category from experience but I didn't have any complaints given what we paid. I would recommend the hotel if you're looking for

Anyone travelling to L'estartit should beware of booking hotels over the internet and paying up-front without knowing what your paying for first. We paid in excess of £300 for 4 nights stay expecting a good quality 3 star hotel in a pleasant location and were surprised to arrive at 'Fawlty Towers' minus John Cleese. Situated on narrow backstreets with no parking facilities, we walked into a time warp. The sparce, dull reception, echoed as guests placed bulky room keys into a numbered pidgeon hole that anyone and everyone has access to. Behind the reception desk stood a telephone exchange machine, its panel of holes and wired plugs best served in a museum . On collecting our key from the polite and friendly receptionist, we ventured upstairs toward our room and walked into my grandmothers bedroom. Everything was ancient, including the bed, candlewick bedsheets, flimsy formica tables, fake wood covered TV (too old for remote control) and lovely (not) orange bathroom. A square plastic panel that separated the room from the hall allowed every noise to pass through.
And that was the extent of our stay for we had seen enough. After handing back our key and telling the receptionist our reasons for leaving, we walked out despite knowing that not only were we likely to lose our money, but that we needed to find somewhere else to stay in height season.
I booked this hotel after reading the single English review on Trip Advisor and the Travel Republic website, realising that we couldn't expect too much for the money. Even so, my expectations were clearly too high.

This is a family run hotel and a friendly welcome awaits you from Raymond and the team. The hotel itself is clean and the bedrooms are of a high standard. We stayed half board at the hotel and the food was always excellent. The staff are lovely and always provide a great service. The beach is within 5 minutes walk and the town centre is the same. I would definitely recommend anybody to stay at this hotel. Simply wonderful.
