“not all inclusive”
Reviewed 8 October 2011

just got back from a 10 night holiday to the golden taurus park hotel in pineda del mar.
we went all inclusive, and i dont know where they get there idea of all inclusive from, but i can tell you it was not all it promised to be.
you got your 3 sittings in the restaurant, the same as everybody else.
you could have beer/tea/coffee/water and a few other drinks free, but most of the drinks you have to pay a percentage towards them.
secondly, if you wanted a snack from the snack bar you could only get them free between the hours of 10am to 12.00 midday, then 16.00pm to 18.00pm, then 22.00pm to 23.00pm, outside of these times you have to pay full price.
so my tip of the day is, avoid this hotel. find somewhere else that really does all inclusive and not just part time.

Room Tip: another hotel

The hotel was well laid out, situated with easy access to Pineda centre and rail station(15mins walk), Calella (20mins walk). Easy access to nice clean beaches and relaxing walks. A hop on/off little holiday train stopped outside the hotel and ran every 30mins to either resort cost 3 euros round trip 1.75 euros one way. The main line train to Barcelona ran every 30 mins (8 Euros return), about 1 hour journey each way. The Thomson excursion to Barcelona was very enjoyable, the guide was excellent. The hotel was very clean, rooms attended daily and all the staff very friendly . The meals were buffet style with lots of choice, no apparent dress code for evening meal (vest and shorts accepted) not nice to see! The pools were quite attractive, plenty of sun beds. The room we were allocated on arrival was terrible (No.134), directly above the Bar/entertainment area. The noise finished at 00.30am. Avoid this series of rooms if possible. The Thomson staff were very friendly and assisted with a room change thereafter no problems. The rooms are adequate, the bathroom lacked shelving and hooks, nowhere to put anything. The shower was ok, good water pressure. The wardrobe was adequate, it contained an optional safe (20 Euros + 10 refundable deposit). Despite minor problems we would recommend this child friendly and family oriented Hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view/pool view and avoid rooms above entertainment area

I took my wife and 15 month old baby here for a 10 day holiday at the end of September, and on the whole we were very happy! Great hotel, very clean, excellent facilities.

BUT, as far as the food in the restaurant was concerned, it was edible but bland.

The drinks from the vending machines, dotted around the hotel, are extortionately priced. €1.90 for a bottle of water or can of Coke that was only 55c at the supermarket across the road!

The hotel entertainment was good on the nights when professionals had been booked, but some nights was provided by the hotel's own entertainment team whose results, despite (to their credit) a lot of effort, were pretty dire. Still, kids seemed to like them.

However, on the nights when the entertainment wasn't great, forget about going out for a walk: there's nothing nearby. It's a small, quiet town. But we knew this when we booked, as we didn't want a very lively resort due to taking a baby.

All in all, a good holiday, but points lost for the food, some entertainment and location.

We stayed here the last week of September; we booked it direct on the internet, flew with Ryannair into Girona and paid for Half board which worked out at €25 per person per night which was excellent value.

Having stayed in another 'Golden Hotel' in June I was fully expecting the normal miserable grumpy hotel staff that seems to be the norm in Spain, but I was pleasantly suprised. The reception staff were first class; really friendly and helpful, the dining room and bar staff were excellent too, and the entertainment was really good and varied.

The hotel is spotlessly clean, and the rooms are very clean albeit basic. The breakfasts were very good and varied, but if I am honest the dinners in the evening disappointed me. The food was very bland, and I would have liked to have known what I was eating rather than just 'fish' or 'pork' - we ate out at one of the tapas bars next to the hotel on some evenings, as I started to crave something tasty.

The hotel is in a quiet area, and it does seem to attract a lot of nationalities, not just English which is nice. We hired a car for 3 days which you can arrange from reception and the car is delivered and collected from the hotel. (BTW I was advised to insure the excess on the car hire rather than take out SCDW as the latter doesn't include mirrors, paintwork etc which is invariably the things that get damaged.)

There is a little train that allegedly runs every 30 minutes, but don't rely on it as the times are a bit random. There is also a Renfe train which takes you into Barcelona (if you get off at pl catalyuna you just cross the road and you are in las ramblas)

I think in summary if you are happy to spend the majority of time at the hotel, or/and have children you will be hard pushed to find anything better for the price, but for me I would have been a bit bored without the hire car, as there is not a huge amount to do in the immediate area.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 146 which had a sea view, a massive balcony and overlooked the pool as well.

The Taurus Park was the perfect hotel for my mother who had her 80th birthday during our stay. We took our own wheelchair and found it easy to access all parts of the hotel and the surrounding area was easy to explore as there were no hills! The hotel was exceptionally clean and well maintained, the staff were all excellent and couldn't do enough to help us. We were full board and found the food at each session to be varied and of a good quality so we all gained a few pounds. The head waiter Jose, arranged a birthday cake for us which was beautiful and played 'Happy Birthday' for my Mom who was very touched by all the attention.

The access to the beach was via an underpass under the train line. The beach was very gritty sand but the long walk in either direction was good. Pineda market was on the main road to the left of the hotel on Friday morning. This had the same stalls as the market in Calella on Wednesday, both were easy to reach and we found a few bargains. Pineda was a small resort, very quiet and with a 'laid back' atmosphere, which was just what we wanted for this trip.

Not a holiday for lively young people looking for plenty of nightlife, but perfect for families with young children or older people who just want to 'chill' on holiday!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a family suite if there are more than 2 of you - we were put in a small twin room with a...

Just back from a real rest at the Golden Taurus Park resort.
If you do your research before booking you should really be aware of the location and the fact there isnt a great deal near the hotel. Tho there is Suma 'supermarket' where u can get your drinks and any snacks etc just outside the hotel and enough souvenir shops/pharmacys/restaurants etc in Pineda/callela-just dont expect them to be open all night its not that kind of resort.
I stayed with a friend in a family suite-we wanted a bit more room so each had a 'bedroom' each which was much cheaper than paying for 2 rooms. Nice big bathroom, very clean, a flat screen T.V in each bedroom. (note if you have the spanish channels press the A.V button and it will switch to bbc/ITV option ) Just lacks the fridge and kettle and it wd have been perfect (and not such a hard bed but some people im sure wd like that). If you book a family room it seems to be 50/50 wether u get a room at the front with pool view or back carpark/mountain view. We got the back view but expected it and didnt let it affect the holiday.
We loved the beach. It stretched a long way so we always found a quiet spot and a nice breeze made hot sun bearable. Yes there is a slope into the sea and its a little stony by the sea but if you can take swimming shoes you will have no problem, Just wouldnt recommend for very small children as got deep very quickly. We found the pools a bit crowded and the pool water the coldest we have ever encountered so didnt use the pools much.
We took the train into Barcelona and was all very easy, you could get the little train for 1.50 euro to the station no need to walk but it wasnt far 10-15min. There are also boat trips available from the beach to the left of the hotel. The market held on Fridays is left out the hotel, they actually close the road for it. It wasnt what we expected but if you want cheap underwear you are in luck! It went all the length of the road to Pineda train station.
The staff in all areas were some of the best we have come across on holiday. We never had to wait for a drink. The only problems we had were with a select few other guests who didnt seem to understand how to Queue or say thanku when you held the door open for them.
We enjoyed the shows we saw but didnt go every night, was just difficult to get anywhere near the front unless you were early.
We always found something we liked to eat, yes the fried eggs were ofcourse in fat and very tasty. If you dont like the fried stuff there is plenty of fruit, cereal, pancakes, cakes etc. Although we went fullboard we found we didnt need the lunch it was too much but always found something for dinner we enjoyed.
The weather was 28 every day apart from our 2nd day when it rained and clouded over so we took that opportunity to travel to Barcelona and it worked out despite a monsoon like shower at one point. I think it would have been uncomfortable to travel on the train in more heat.
We went with thomson and had no problems. We found it a bit bizarre to be invited to a 'departure meeting' to confirm coach times. Could they not just write the coach times on the slip of paper put under the door? The coach times were on the info board by reception anyhow.
Id return to this hotel, it was a very easy, relaxing time, we came home with a tan and spent very little money. It had the added bonus of being so close to Barcelona.
