“Nice place, bad food”
Reviewed 5 August 2014 via mobile

Hotel looks quite nice, friendly reception. Somewhat remote feel and still next to a major road. Nice rooms, looks like a nice poolarea.

Food though, went for a lunch here being to lacy going out and found an overpriced half decent buffee. Hotel vs food experience doesnt add up.
Grade lower because of the restaurant.

We were here (my wife and I) on a business trip with an extended period for personal leisure time.
Being business meant we had no choice in where we stayed as the exhibition was taking place in the lower rooms of the hotel. In fact the fashion company owners had booked every spare room in 3 hotels to accommodate all their visiting purchasers.

On arrival we were met by a receptionist who couldn't seem to find us on the guest list. This also happened to others who were booked in. It was resolved easily enough though. We paid extra to have a room upgrade to one where we had a sea view. More on that later.

The reception area was sort of drab. It was clean OK, but just lacked any welcome. No music playing, a big TV under the seats but not switched on for the people who lazed around. The bar to the end of the reception area seemed closed but on closer inspection just wasn't staffed. There was no atmosphere at all in this place. As you might expect, a hotel of this sort in a suny place has loads of bif big windows in the reception area. They were scruffy. I think that the services of a good window cleaner would come in handy.

I did laugh when going up to the third floor in a lift. We were in a Schindlers lift. That's only only claim to fame......

When leaving the lift the hallway was dark with lights that came on when we entered the hallway. It was a depressing feeling though. The rooms, the door panels gave the appearance of being in a sanitised laboratory.

The room was OK, sort of. There wasn't enough hangers to take all the clothes we brought with us and no drawers to use. Just a couple of shelves and the bottom of the wardrobes. The fridge was stocked with the usual accompaniment of bottles, cans and bars of chocolate etc with a price list that put you off using them anyway.

I have NEVER seen such a HUGE bed in a hotel room. It was absurdly large and took space up which could have been used for a better wardrobe for instance.

The TV was terrible. I mean, I can't expect much in the way of English programmes in a Spanish hotel anyway, but this being the week of the French Tennis O-pen at Roland Gaross I really wanted to watch the matches with Andy Murray playing. The matches were shown on Eurosport but were commentated on in German. Not only that but the aspect ratio of the set was poor so that the picure was stretched lengthways and looked awful. Nothing could be done to improve on that, and indeed the TV's in the bar and reception area were exactly the same, just a lot bigger.

The balcony looked down on an outside pool which was almost always in the shade, however there were a good few scattered sun loungers around the perimeter.

Remember my comment on upgrading to a sea view? Here goes.
The view was one of the salt fields, called Salinas, not of the sea. The road in the front of the room had one of the treatment plants for the salt works then onto the salt fields themselves, then far, FAR away in the distance there were a few white buildings which were also part of the salt works and a mere glimpse of the open sea beyond. It wasn't worth paying extra for.

When you open the veranda door, the air conditioning went off. When you closed it, it came back on again. In the meantime all the cool air had gone. To make it a bit of a mockery the air conditioning didn't seem to work much at all anyway.
A friend's room did get suitably cool though but he had two key-cards for the room so that when he went out he could leave the 2nd in the slot to keep the air conditioning going. Something worth taking note of there.....

The breakfast was OK. Plenty choice but the hard boiled eggs were boiled too long so that when trying to shell them it took away a good portion of the egg white with it too.

The hotel does have a very good indoor pool and other specialised services based around it, but you do have to pay extra for the indoor pool.

The thing that really spoils this hotel is the total lack of atmosphere and the derisory amount of staff on hand to run the bar and reception.

While I would stay here again, if someone could drag me to this resort in the 1st place, I would be hard pressed to recommend it as a 1st choice.

Room Tip: Don't upgrade to a sea view. You'll be disappointed. Get a 2nd key-card to leave one of the...

Huge salt water Spa ,very relaxing and modern with plenty of installations to chose from: water beds, 1 hoy jacuzzi, 3 standing jacuzzis, large sitting jacuzzi, press showers, all free plus the option of personalised beaty treatments . Modern hotel, spacious rooms and close to amenities (beach, salt fields, muds...) and nice restaurants in the surrounding. Close to La Manga and Torrevieja for excursions. Very large and clean rooms including special rooms for disabled. Chill out lounge by the pool and in the roof. Strongly recommend it

The hotel is lovely and a great place to relax. I found the reception staff (mainly the young girls) rather aloof. The outside pool and the rooftop were closed and when I enquired as to why I was just shrugged at and told 'it's not summer!' It was 28 degrees in the middle of May. When does summer begin??? The pool looked so inviting but we were not allowed in it and everybody says you must go up on the rooftop and enjoy the view as the sun sets. No, it was closed as it's not summer??? We were also told caps had to be worn in the spa pools and when I asked about this we were given caps (which we did not use/have to use) but found we had been charged for them without being told of the fee! It might only be €3.60 but we were not informed of this charge which makes me cross. The breakfast was lovely and two waitresses in particular were very nice, cheerful and helpful. Maria and another lady who worked in the sal restaurant on the Saturday evening were great. The restaurant food was fabulous and the service excellent! Hotel is extremely clean and the spa was lovely. If you have a car it is a central place to be. The coast is lovely

We stayed five nights at this hotel and rented a car to explore the area, which is gorgeus and fun. I am an interior designer and had a great impression of Mercure Thalasia, as it has a chic lobby and sleek room, sitting areas and swimming pool. The breakfast is amazing as you get a chef to cook eggs in the way you prefer.The big spa is a plus. I would repeat.

This is NOT a 4 star hotell. We are a team of 25 persons (guests) with Enriched Life on a rehab treatment.

What is good;

1. Rooms are good and clean.
2. Personal in general are helpful, but problems with english as usual down here...
3. Nice facilities (pool, spa, etc.)

What is bad, and REALLY BAD;

1. Food, this is REALLY BAD. We are 25 persons from Sweden and almost all makes complaints EVERY day. Is your chefs educated of what?
2. Light bulbs are not replaced under 1 week on several places.
3. Signs on elevators are not showing info longer.
4. Internet is EXTREMELY slow. 0.2 mbit as it´s best. So if you need to work. it´s a huge problem.
5. Breakfast, lunch and dinner contains a lot of similar food. I don´t know how we can handle this for 2 weeks :(
6. Coffe is cold every day. Scrambled eggs are cold also :(
