“Relaxing way to spend an afternoon”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014 via mobile

Visited the thermal baths in Ovronnaz after a winding and steep climb up the road with its numerous hairpin bends. Admittance to the baths was reasonable: a day ticket is 20 chf for an adult. Access to the spa with its sauna, steam room etc is extra (38) with treatments add on top. The baths ticket gives access to the different pools, one indoor and two mainly outdoor, plus Jacuzzis and two relaxation rooms (one with music and one a silent room). The water temperature was 34-35 C.....bliss. very relaxing especially on the outdoor pools and an air temperature of 14C, even when it started raining. I can imagine it must get rather crowded on a boorth day in summer, even with the various outdoor seating areas. Bar and restaurant seemed more expensive than others. Worth a visit not least for the great views while you're relaxing in the waters.

My boyfriend and I paid for a good spa day deal that consisted of unlimited access to the spa facilities of the thermal pools, jacuzzi, stem room, sauna, relaxtion room etc, a 25 minute massage with lunch included :-)It was well worth the money spent with spectacular views of the swiss mountains, however the spa is not touristy friendly as most of the staff speak no or very little english and even the signs, info etc is all in French.

We got a last minute ski and spa deal which included 3 days' ski passes and entry to the spa/gym and thermal baths, studio apartment (with sofa bed), dressing gowns, slippers and towel hire, breakfast and parking. The breakfast was a good buffet choice with hot and cold meals. The ski lift is 5 minutes' drive away. There are not many other restaurants within walking distance. In Ovronnaz, there are few if you don't mind driving. The hotel restaurant offers quite a wide choice of meals and different price levels. I don't think this is the party capital of the world! The apartment blocks are all linked to the thermal baths/restaurant, so there may be a bit of a walk, depending on which apartment block you get, though it is all under cover and there are lifts. The thermal baths are a good temperature and have lots of massage jets and jacuzzi beds/seats, etc. The spa is very nice with a large jacuzzi, steam rooms and sauna (at 85 deg!), cold dip pool, experimental showers and a nudist area if you are so inclined. The staff were mostly very friendly, and although the apartment was probably last decorated in the late 70s, it was clean and the fittings would have been very good quality at the time. Overall this was a great stay for the 'last minute' price. Subscribe to their web site to get the special offer deals sent through. January is a fantastic time to go as it is not at all busy. Take it easy on the drive up/down.

Room Tip: Ask to be near to the hotel reception if you have walking difficulties. Some of the lifts pinged so...

We stayed for 2 nights over a sunny weekend. The view from the hotel / pool is amazing with the mountains all around. However, the pools were very busy with (presumably) day guests and on Sunday we couldn't find a single sun lounger to lie on in the afternoon. The new spa area is nice. and emptier as most people were outside. We had a double studio with a valley view (worth paying extra for the view). We didn't use the kitchen facilities but ate in the restuarant and in the village. The breakfast was included and very good. Good opportunities to hike by taking a chairlift up into the mountains. But it was an expensive weekend once we included dinners, a massage, and the room cost - the cost is the main thing which would put me off again, and the number of people in the pools.

Room Tip: Choose a valley view from the room - amazing

People understand that you're in the French part of Switzerland and not everybody speaks English. This is a great thermal bath facilities and even greater now with the new section that has just opened. Road up is not for the faint at heart but your reward is good once you're up here. With hotel you get access to the pools. Anything massage or wellness is to be reserved in advance, so plan plan plan!

Their website announces "New Spa Opening Winter 2012/2013". The truth is, that this new Spa will open Easter 2013 and there is only an ugly construction site next to the external pools. Nobody informed me about this before arrival. Furthermore, the fitness area is tiny. There are one stepper, three very old bikes and two exercise machines. Also the room was a deception. As mentioned already in other reviews, the furniture is shappy (scratched and battered pine wood). The mattresses are thin and soft. I was essentially sleeping on the slatted frame; very strange for a place that wants to sell "wellness". The food is alright. However the waitors are completely overloaded and the service is mediocre. I think this is due to their organization. At arrival you get tickets for the half-board and at the same time you are told that you can use the tickets as money and eat à la carte (that's probably what they want). Instead of gaining in planning certainty they create a formidable chaos.

It is a nice place to spend a relaxing weekend: the room was big and nice; the service is really good, you have everything in the hotel (sauna, thermal baths, restaurant,...); the breakfast is excellent (there's a large chioce of food); you can go walking in the mountain...
