“Nice choice near Castle de Chillon and Montreux”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2014

My family of 5 (with school aged children) stayed in a lakeside suite during our recent visit to the Montreux area. The staff was helpful and spoke English well. The suite was roomy and clean with a beautiful view. The location is wonderful. We could easily jump on the bus right outside the hotel to Montreux (free with our Riviera card) or walk (only a 20min lovely lakeside stroll to Montreux or 10min to Castle de Chillon). The air conditioning was hard to manage but we luckily did not need it too much. The wifi was good. My husband did feel a little claustrophobic, especially in the small elevators and lobby area. Breakfast was fresh & good with a choice of eating outside to enjoy the beautiful terrace.

We, a family of 4 (2 children) stayed one night in the Hotel Bristol and it was very good and a good value for the Montreux area. Our room had a sofa bed which the children could use and a separate bedroom for us. There was free wifi and a good breakfast included. The bus stop was right outside so to go back to the town side or chateaux de chillion was easy. Our room was on a higher floor and faced the city - the room had a cooler instead of AC which we used as well as a kitchenette. Everything was clean and excellent. Pleased with the hotel Bristol.

I lived in this hotel during March, 2013. The hotel owns a very good view if you book a lake view room. The hotel rooms are mostly on the first two floors and the rest of the rooms of this building are residential apartments. Therefore hotel guests can only enjoy the lake view in a very low altitude through a garden and a flagpole. The room is clean and spacious, and also has a small kitchen. The hotel has a swimming pool and a jacuzzi beside it. When my husband and I went there for swimming before dinner, there were nobody but us, very quiet and comfortable. The location of the hotel was not very ideal for me. Although it is only 1km away from Chateau de Chillon, which is a beautiful place, it takes a longer walk(over 30 minutes) to reach downtown Montreux. Do remember to ask the receptionist to provide you with a visitor's pass (i don't quite remember the actual name of this pass). With this pass you can take a free bus ride and enjoy a discount when you buy tickets at Chateau de Chillon. The hotel staff may not offer you the pass in the first place, but you may kindly remind them of it.

Room Tip: Lake view room is recomended.

This easy to find hotel with pleasant and competent staff was let down by my pleasant, spacious 1st floor room being far too hot with no way of turning it down. It was Sauna like! My colleagues room was the same.

There was no way of reducing the temperature other than by opening the windows or doors to the balcony. As my room was facing the busy main road and it had been snowing, this was not possible due to the noise of the traffic. I turned off the radiators, opened the windows and went for a meal. When I returned to my room, it was still hot because of the heating pipes running under the floor, literally keeping the place piping hot!

Reception staff were very understanding and showed me two other rooms, one on the 5th or 6th floor (can't remember) on the same side of the hotel. However, the noise problems were just the same. So I was shown a suite on the 1st floor on the opposite side facing Lake Geneva (Lehman). This was just as hot, but was quieter (except for the occasional train) and I could open the windows, etc to regulate the temperature. I did have to pay an extra €75/night for this though, which was an unexpected expense I could have done without.

Parking is underneath the hotel and cost extra. A little tricky to find as you have to drive around the back of the hotel to access it. But once you are parked, there's a lift up into the hotel which is easy enough.

Breakfast is in the attached restaurant and was very good, as were the evening meals eaten there. The menu was good value with a starter of Hare and main course of Roe Deer meat. Unusal but good all the same. Once again, the staff were very courteous and pleasant.

There's a Spa and pool but I didn't get chance to use it. However, I would have no doubt that it would be very good. The whole place was immaculately clean as you would expect.

This hotel is also a "residence", so there are also guests who live there permanently in their retirement. Lucky them!!!

In conclusion, if you can afford a "suite", then its a lovely place to stay with a large front room, good size bedroom, small kitchenette and shower/wet room.

However, if you can only afford the room, I would stay elsewhere as it's an expensive place to stay with the possibility of not getting a good nights sleep because you can't control the temperature.

Room Tip: Enquire about paying extra for a Lake facing room. (the rooms facing the road are too noisy and in N...

This was a lovely hotel right on the lake. We didn't have a lake view but we did have a very nice room - the bathroom was huge! The only complaint was that the room had a portable air con machine, which means the door had to be open to the balcony. Our room faced the main road to the front of the hotel, so it was quite noisy during the night as the road had constant traffic.

The location was good - a short walk one way and you were at the castle, which was beautiful, the other way and you were in Montreux. The hotel also can provide a bus pass (free) if you would prefer not to walk, the bus stop was right outside the hotel.

I have stayed in this hotel in 2006, however, I believe it has not changed since then, as most of the things in Switzerland. This hotel is targeted at an elderly audience and it will fit anyone who likes to have peaceful and quite stay.
The food in the Hotel is excellent, I would recommend tar-tar to the gourmets.
It is relatively close to the city center, about 25 minute walk by the lake, beautiful.

Room Tip: Avery location would be quiet, but I would recommend to chose a room with the lake view, absolutely...
