“birthday stayover”
Reviewed 26 August 2014 via mobile

This is my second stay here, on this occasion for my birthday treat with some friends. As it was near Christmas there was a great atmosphere there was lots of people on works dos so it is busy. Staff friendly enough, clean rooms, bar area and general areas. Good laugh and would stay again.

This is by far the best hotel I have stayed in. Have stayed here on two occasions now and definitely will be returning. The hotel itself and rooms are very clean, modern and too a very high standard as well as the facilities: gym, pool, pub and restaurant. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Within a five minute walk are a number of restaurants, bowling and a cinema as well as in the opposite direction a metro link straight into manchester piccadilly. Only negative I would say is the drinks prices are a little high. Food is very nice in both the pub and restaurant and there is free wifi throughout the hotel.

Thank you for your feedback on the hotel and its facilities we are glad you enjoyed your stay.
Regarding the drinks prices we have recently just lowered the drinks prices across the brand so this is always something we are looking to improve and match our competitors i will pass your feedback on though.
We hope to see you again in the near future.

Spent two nights here while celebrating a family wedding (at a different venue). This hotel is good value but I can't quite work out what it's trying to be.

The rooms were obviously designed to look upmarket but are quite dark, the blinds don't work properly, and the storage is atrocious. No drawers or shelves and no actual wardrobe - just a hanging rail which blocks the mirror if you have to use it.

The TV didn't work properly (the logic of the channel registration was bizarre with BBC1 on channel 12 whilst Smooth Radio was on channel 1). All 15 channels had poor reception - I haven't seen TV signal like this for about 10 years! It made me feel quite nostalgic for those times when we used to get our TV from a portable aerial. Well it did for about 30 seconds - then it became very annoying. When I reported it (9pm Friday night) I was unfortunately told the maintenance people had gone "for the weekend".

Don't really understand the purpose of the iPod docking station. Probably seemed like a good idea at the time but it is now almost obsolete (old type 30 pin connector). Why promote it at all when only a fraction of your guests would be able to use it?

The bathroom was clean and well decorated but I can't stand the trend at some hotels to fix soap dispensers to the wall. Goodness knows what's actually in them. It's also dreadfully unhygienic - do the cleaners remove and disinfect the pumps and brackets between guests? I doubt it. Having nothing supplied except soap on the wall makes it feel more like secure accommodation than a £75 a night hotel.

Breakfast was okay - service wasn't brilliant but the food was fine. It took a long time to get someone's attention in order to place a hot drink order.

All in all this is not a bad hotel and the pricing is competitive, but I'm still left confused about what market this place is playing to.

Im glad to see you enjoyed the majority of your stay.
Im sorry that you had some issues with the technology in the bedroom, if would be a great help to us to email myself and let me know what name the reservation was made under and i will follow this up right away, by this point of the night you probably wouldn't of wanted to move bedrooms, so thank you for letting us know.
The Village Hotel brand tries to cover all different guests visiting us to business guests to families to wedding guests we try to have a whole range of facilities to suit all, im sorry you were entirely happy with the concept.

It was our first hotel experience. I choose the village as it has the Fitness suite and iv always wanted to try a jacuzzi and steam room. We checked in 20 mins before 3 which I liked as our check I'm wasn't till 3. We went to the room which was very nice, only downfall was the TV was all fuzzy and there was a dock for iphones but what if you have Samsung and want to use the dock? Universal dock maybe! We had a brew in the room and a good nosey around. The walk in shower was amazing and massive, the sink tap leaked when turned on and I couldn't work out which way was hot and which was cold. The air conditioning unit wasn't very cold and the motorway noise was too Much to have the window open. We then went to use the jacuzzi etc and I have no problems there we loved it the steam room was great for my asthma as it has eucalyptus in it. We then went back to the room and got ready to go out, we went to the Chinese over the road and then the cinema. We was going to eat at the hotel but their was a wedding on and football I think so there was loads of rowdy people about(to be expected, not a negative point to the hotel). The bed was too comfortable and I didn't want to get up for breakfast but I'd paid for it so had to. I went for the full English wish I'd had cereal now as I was to full from the Chinese. At half 10 we had house keeping knocking on the door, check out wasn't till 11 so not sure why she was knocking on half hour early. Overall very nice night away and my gf came out my fiancee which was the whole reason for the night away.

A really lovely welcoming hotel..very friendly staff and is a really good hotel suitable for all sorts of people..ours was a family trip but you can see it caters well for all your business needs , young couples and those into fitness. The hotel is very modern but has great relaxed atmosphere making you feel right at home. It has a lovely restaurant that is very child friendly and welcoming, a pub, fitness area and pool.
The room was lovely were modern and well maintained and most of all clean...by only grievance that as we had our young daughter in with us too the room was a little small and the best wasn't a proper bed more of a camp style.. a little more room would have been lovely but there is an option to upgrade for £20 so we probably should have done that.
All in all we had a very pleasant stay and wouldn't hesitate to return

Really pleased you enjoyed all our great facilities in the hotel.
Were really proud of everything we have to offer and as you noticed we cater for a range or people from families to business people.
We recommend our upperdeck bedrooms and they are just £20 to upgrade to with much more space for an extra small person!

We hope to see you again soon.

We spent six nights at the Urban Village in August 2014. We were concerned that it would not be to our taste because of the "family friendly" label. Those concerns were completely unfounded. The room was a good size, clean, comfortable and the window opened! Silly as that might seem it is something to be appreciated. The leisure facilities there are superb with lanes for adult swimming at all times and a separate gym for ladies. The tram stop is just a couple of minutes away and gives access to the city centre in just 20 minutes. The road connections are good and if you do not want to eat at the hotel there are restaurants and bars within walking distance or a short tram or taxi ride. Staff were helpful and friendly. The do have events there but there is no noise to disturb you simply an influx of excited people. We are used to staying at the De Vere Grand (5*) in Brighton - this equates favourably.

Room Tip: The ordinary room is hardly any different to the upgraded room. Not worth upgrading.
