“Lovely hotel and good value”
Reviewed 31 July 2014 via mobile

I stayed here whilst on business really liked the place - the staff were all very attentive and meals tasty and good value for money. The dinner menu offered a good variety of food which was served quickly and politely. The only issue I had was a poor mobile phone & Mi-Fi reception which was inconvenient as I needed to work - but hardly the hotels fault!

This Hotel is the most quiet one visited.Lovely gardens, our room had its own patio, which was very useful on a hot afternoon.Spacious room, comfortable beds.Free Wi Fi.Only downsides were the usual niggles, both room and bathroom looked tired, though everything worked and was clean enough. The restaurant menu was a bit too fancy for us,so try the White Swan just up the road,or Old House at Home,in Romsey.Friendly staff with dining room overlooking garden, good breakfasts, with lots of choice.Would certainly visit again.

I stayed in the Potters Heron for two nights during the hottest week of the year so far, so this may be a slightly skewed review. However, I have to compare it with other hotels I have stayed in during similarly hot weather, and it doesn't stand up very well to that comparison.

The location is convenient for the south coast, Winchester, Romsey, etc. It is fairly quiet even though it is on a main road.

The room was of reasonable size, with the standard facilities. The television didn't work properly, and the decor and bathroom were in need of some updating. There was no air conditioning which made it extremely stuffy. The room had a balcony of sorts, with a door opening onto it. The balcony was really the gap between the room's outer wall and the outside wall of the hotel (i.e. the balcony itself had a roof and walls either side), rather than being a sticking-out balcony, which meant it didn't improve the ventilation of the room at all. The concierge provided a small fan at my request, which barely cut through the heat: all its energy was put into sounding like a helicopter rather than generating any draft.

The restaurant was overpriced and the food disappointing. Somehow the chef had managed to cook all the flavour out of the lamb shank I had on the first night, so although it was very tender it tasted of absolutely nothing, something I have never experienced before. Not even the drizzle of "jus" lended anything to the meal.

All in all, a disappointing couple of nights in what looked like a promising hotel.

We stayed here as an overnight stop in July, on our way to Torquay. What value! £75 including breakfast.

Our room was large and airy, with a terrace. The bathroom was more than adequate and the breakfast was fantastic as was the service.

We arrived at around 10 pm, so missed the restaurant, but the staff made a lovely sandwich in no time at all and presented it with a smile. For the money, you cannot go wrong.

Room Tip: They have a restaurant and bar, which overlooks the car park. I assume rooms overlooking this area w...

We found out about Potters Heron from the Marwell Zoo website as we wanted to visit the zoo but also stay in the area. The building was lovely, thatched, and in a very quiet location. The bar/restaurant area was really well thought out and very inviting with both comfy and upright chairs! Room was really nice with a balcony, probably bathroom needs a little work a bit tired. Towels were lovely and large and nice toiletries We ate in the restaurant another reason for choosing the hotel. The food we had on the Saturday evening was really nice, good choice and some unusual and very filling. Service was really great even though they had a wedding and another function on at the same time. Maybe because of this the bar was a little quiet and lacked atmosphere but we were there to chill and that we did. Breakfast was really nice, lots of choice but there was no marmalade, come on guys you are an English B&B!!!!

Room Tip: Pick a room on the first floor to have a balcony

I have been visiting Gemma for many years, both during her time at the Beauty Barn at The Potters Heron and prior to that when she worked from home. My four weekly visits are for one of her magic facials...everyone should have one. Gemma makes you feel like you are her only client of the day and totally focuses on you as an individual and customised the treatment precisely for your skin. The facial includes an amazing chest, neck and face massage which regularly sends me in to a trance like state as I am so relaxed. Unlike most other places who leave you to it once your face mask is on Gemma`s attention is continuous throughout as she provides a gorgeous head massage whilst y our mask is working. A visit to Gemma is a must...I wouldn't go to anyone else.

Smart thatched roof hotel in the South English countryside.

We were allocated room 4, which was called a superior room and even had a little balcony. Lovely. Good decor, tv, hair dryer, drinks, free wifi and very comfortable bed. It was quiet and solid floor so no creaks. Units a little tired but no issues.

Staff great, except the rude and unpleasant assistant manager on reception, a real shame, but Ludo - the manager - made up for this. He was very friendly and professional.

We will be back. £75 for room and breakfast. Great overall.
