Description: The Visitor Centre, Carnforth Station. A film, Brief Encounter, was filmed here in 1945 and the part of the station used in the film has been refurbished and there is a museum, attracting not only film but train buffs. Visitors flock to the refreshment room where, in the film, most of the action took place.

“tea is a must”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

Tea is a must here. Its tastes superb and come made with leaves, served in a proper tea pot with cups and saucers. Tastefully decorated to reflect a bygone age. They serve food too although we only had cake and they did have gluten free option.

“valentine dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2014

My husband and my daughter and her boyfriend and me went for a valentines meal last night 14/2/14 This is the first time we had been at night, we were welcomed straight away and given a glass of pink champagne which was lovely. All of our meals were absolutely wonderful. Me and my daughter had the salmon mousse to start and it was divine!! the fish in lemon butter was gorgeous too. We all had a wonderful relaxing evening with excellent food and wonderful staff would definately recommend it and cant wait to go back. michelle

“Brief visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 February 2014

When changing trains at Carnforth station we had 30 minutes to spare, and thought we would give the famous refreshment room a visit.
the décor was generally in keeping with the era of the famous film, with background music also matching the period. We ordered tea, and were surprised to be asked if we would like one spoon or two (no tea bags here) There was a good choice of cakes, and we saw from the board that hot food was also available. The cakes we tried were large and of good quality, and service was friendly and efficient.

Certainly worth visiting even if you are not changing trains at Carnforth.

“Too Brief an Encounter!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 February 2014

We fell in love with this place the minute we walked in! There were REAL fires, and it IS just like on the film. We were made to feel quite at home by Andrew, the owner, and looked after well by Tom, his assistant. We had coffee and delicious scones before setting off to explore Carnforth on foot. We also looked around the museum and shop at the station and then returned to the cafe for a late lunch. Two of us had the vegetarian quiche, served with PROPER chips and a lovely salad which included coleslaw and slices of orange. Our two friends had mince and onion pie, served with chips, peas and PROPER gravy. (It stated salad on the menu but there was no problem substituting peas!) None of us left a morsel! Three of us were debating which cake dessert to have and Andrew suggested sharing three different ones with some ice cream. He whisked them off into the kitchen where the chef cut them all into
three and returned them to us served with ice cream. We also had some wine with our meal.
Nothing was too much trouble, we even paid separately which caused a bit of a fuss and Andrew talked to us whenever he wasn't too busy. What a lovely place - we were quite sad when it was time for the train. Andrew may have been slightly relieved!!!!!!
