Review of The Stable Bar

The Stable Bar
Ranked #3 of 105 Restaurants in Bridgnorth
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$6 - US$38
Description: At The Stable Bar our ethos is to work with local and seasonal produce, ensuring the highest quality in our dishes and having a close relationship with all our suppliers. We are lucky enough to have our meat sourced from our local Bridgnorth butcher, Beaman's Est. 1890, who source most of their produce from within Shropshire. We offer an imaginative à la carte menu along with a range of appetisers and light bites bought to you by Head Chef Theo Van Deventer and his brigade, evolving with the seasons and focusing on bold flavours and innovative techniques. Our goal is to deliver exciting, creative food whilst you enjoy a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience from our friendly waiting team. Our menu is accompanied by a generous wine list from local wine merchant James Tanner of Tanners Shrewsbury.

We went to this restaurant as a celebration for my son's birthday. After reading excellent reviews and looking at menu online it looked outstanding.
The menu on the evening was nothing like the menu advertised and i chose the lamb dish advertised as a shoulder of lamb. It appeared and looked like a very poor version of a kebab. In fact the lamb was extremely dry and burnt in places so the kebabs served in my local fish shop are far better and obviously much cheaper! To say i was disappointed is an understatement.
I wasnt charged for said meal which is just as well.
Overall an extremely disappointing experience.

Having read lots of amazing reviews about the Stable Bar myself and my partner decided to go as not only did the reviews sway us into going but the menu, which we viewed on-line, was also excellent. Upon arriving at The Stable Bar we approached the bar staff to say we had a table booked, we were slightly early so she checked upstairs (which is where the restaurant is located), we were advised that our table wasn't quite ready so we opted to have a drink in the bar, I asked for a cocktail menu but we were told that we'd have to go outside to the courtyard to order a cocktail, we were a tad confused why we couldn't order a cocktail from the bar so we opted for wine. We sat in the bar which is a strange set up.....the way the chairs are set up makes it look like a barbers shop for cowboys! We sat for about 15 minutes or so, fully expecting a member of staff to advise us that our table was ready, when no one came we asked one of the bar staff if it was ready, he said that if it was past the time we'd booked it for then yes, it would be ready! We went up to the restaurant which wasn't busy at all so again we were confused why we couldn't have been seated earlier?? Upon being seated we looked through the menu, which was NOTHING like the on-line menu and we really struggled to choose starters and mains that we both liked. The staff throughout the whole establishment were very young, no one looked to be any older than 20 so we felt we couldn't ask them for any advise about the menu. The food was mediocre, nothing special at all and really quite a disappointment. The desserts were very lovely and were the only thing nice about the whole evening. Another pair of diners were sat so close to our table that we felt we were eating dinner with them despite the fact that there was plenty of room in the restaurant. We couldn't order cocktails even when we were in the restaurant which was one of the reasons we went as they were hyped up on the reviews. We will not be returning to The Stable Bar and nor we will recommend it!

Me and my partner had dinner there and we couldn’t fault it at all. The service was excellent our waitress was really friendly and helpful. The food was amazing best place we have eaten at. The building was beautiful. It was very quiet which was good
Romantic. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.
