“Very comfortable cottage in a tranquil setting”
Reviewed 1 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

My wife and I were looking for a comfortable cottage near enough to Bath to see the tourist attractions but far enough away for peace and quiet after a busy day. Brooks View cottage is just 4 miles from the centre of Batch and really fitted the bill. The web site was very informative and the cottage provided just what we needed for our short, 3-night stay.
The cottage is well equipped and the long garden with summer house and patio seating area for al-fresco dining at the bottom, plus a babbling brook running alongside were perfect. The garden is well stocked with flowers, the lawn well tended and the abundance of garden birds completed the scene of a traditional English country cottage garden.
The views from the end of the garden onto open countryside and wooded hills beyond provided real privacy and seclusion - the great weather we were lucky enough to have throughout our stay just put the cherry on the icing on the cake!

“Genuine English Cottage”

Down what felt like a very narrow country road we arrived at a genuine English cottage with a genuine English cottage garden by a brook. It was beautiful. Sitting at the attractive patio furniture in the garden you can hear the brook at the bottom of the garden. Just idyllic. The sun was shining, a long G&T...........just perfect. We felt truly "away from it all" and yet when we got up the next morning and drove into the city of Bath we were there in 15 minutes!

The cottage is small but very well presented and with all the facilities we were looking for. Fabulous large bathroom with both a walk in shower and a bath. Kitchen was well equipped and the provision of granola as well as tea and coffee was a nice touch. We did not try the Sherry nor the chocolates but again a welcome gesture.

The bed in the upstairs bedroom was king-size and very comfortable. The sofa bed in the lounge was fine for an overnight but would not want to have a long stay on this without a mattress topper. Plenty of cushions, blankets extra pillows. Beautifully clean throughout. Clear instructions for getting there and for booking in.

What a wonderful place to visit. Cottage outstanding and bery clean. We did the two tunnels walk which we thought would be roughly an hour but it was nearly 2 by the time we got into Bath city centre. Would definitely visit again

Wonderful place to stay! Perfect in every sense. Beautiful location. The wildlife seen from the living room window was absolutely stunning! This cottage in our opinion is a little piece of heaven on earth.

This is an absolutely beautiful place. Right on a creek with a cozy little place to barbecue. However, it was nearly impossible to find. Our taxi driver even got lost! Our Satnav worked very well until the closed road tripped us up. But we did finally get here. No phone in the place which is difficult for foreigners. So to get a taxi into Bath which takes about 15 minutes if all goes well, is very difficult and impossible if the owners aren't home. The king sized bed was actually two twins pushed together. I never met Ann although we were here two days. The room was not serviced when we were in Bath. Beware! You will need to be self sufficient and maybe walk many miles to a phone.

HI there

You clearly had a problem getting to Fishermen's Retreat largely due to the horrendous crash on one of the incoming roads. With Bath's traffic being so busy this would create a problem. This was an unfortunate and rare start. Sat navs take you to the door.

We don't supply a phone as all guests travel these days with mobiles...I gather from my husband that yours had not worked anywhere in the Uk which would make it more difficult..however, we were on hand to organise a taxi with our special discounted price for you. Information was provided both in the confirmation and inside the cottage.

The beds are luxury Zip and Link beds, 1200 pocket spring, top quality.. as used by most upmarket self catering establishments in Bath for their adaptability as some guests prefer twins.

Self catering is about self sufficiency so the cottage would not be serviced during your stay unless 7 days or more and it is expected that the cottage would be left as you found it.. If you had requested we could certainly have provided a cleaning service.

You mentioned that you did not meet me...we find that self catering guests prefer in general to be left alone, notwithstanding that Michael met your husband twice, and I did once on arrival.

Very pleased you enjoyed the barbecue beside the brooks... It is a delightful spot from which to watch the kingfishers, heron and indeed trout whilst enjoying a glass of wine...

Hope you also enjoyed the lovely local walks..

Best wishes for the rest of your travels.

“Beautiful countryside retreat!”
Reviewed 15 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

My sister and I have just got back from a long weekend staying here and we loved it, in fact I have already booked to return again in July with my other half that's how much we enjoyed it! Literally feels like your in another world when you stay here, it's so beautiful and peaceful. On the first day we sat in the garden for most of the day chatting away and seeing all the birds was lovely. Sadly the next day the weather wasn't on our side so we drove to a nearby pub and had a lovely roast then came back to the lovely cottage and made popcorn and watched a film. Really feels like home! Park and ride is just round the corner so really easy to pop into Bath. Would definitely recommend!

“Quaint with a few small issues”
Reviewed 6 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Lovely setting and quaint cottage with all facilities catered for however.............
Sofa very uncomfortable as it double as a sofa bed, shower cubicle very spacious but shower itself very weak, and finally the bed is advertised as a king size but is actually 2 single matresses pushed together which was uncomfortable as it was like sleeping on an incline.
However very clean and quiet but we were only there for a weekend so limited time to explore the area

The shower has been changed following your review as a clearly a problem had developed so very sorry about that.
The bed is a Zip and link king size, luxury 1200 pocket sprung and top hotel quality with a top quality topper.. Beds though are a very personal choice and disappointingly you clearly did not find it comfortable. Usually guests comment on how comfortable the bed is....not withstanding that we have now replaced the bed. do hope you come again to enjoy the lovely walks and cycles in the area and also the delights of Bath.
Best wishes
