“Good food but cafe is poorly designed creating queues.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2013

The food and drink is more than acceptable, unfortunately the design of the cafe is so unfriendly it creates queues and frustrations. The counter is so high it appears only one person can serve at a time, so once you have placed your order you then stand there waiting for your drinks while everyone behind sighs loudly in frustration, a lower longer counter would enable a free flow of customer traffic and a second person to make drinks while the first takes food orders. There are also no facilities to return plates, so tables are often left cluttered with crockery while the young staff struggle to simply serve and cook, it amazes me how the place actually operates so efficiently when it appears that the average age is under 20 years, having said that i did visit on one occasion when the owners who looked to be in their fifties were in attendance, and the service was slow as they seemed more interested in chatting to their regular customers than actually serving. The place is a potential gold mine, it simply needs a refreshing face lift, a better design flow of customer traffic, a plate return trolly, a speed counter just for cold drinks and ice creams and some more staff at busy times.

“great service if you are a wasp :(”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2013

A lovely setting, extensive menu but you need binoculars to read it.
Tables left uncleared meant wasps were in abundance, when my friend mentioned this ,the waitress explained she had put janm on tables to attract the wasp to selected tables, Ludicrous to say the least it simply attracts them to the area. I attempted to explain that clearing all leftover food from tables would help, and as the waitress was busy and stressed I offered to help. We were then met by verbal abuse from the waitress who threw evrything on a tray and complained about her working conditions. If my friend hadnt been looking forward to her lunch I would simply have left. I hope no one was stung as on the way past later they had allocated an apricot slice an several pots of jam explaining that it was the wasp table an jokingly advised people not to sit at it as it may be painful. Customers were surrounded by wasps :((

“poor customer service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2013

Found the food to be very nice but the customer service was very poor. We had booked a table in the 'restaurant' and pre-ordered food but were made to stand in the main queue to order drinks whilst our food was being delivered to the table. All the staff looked generally confused.

“poor service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2013

I arrived with my hungry son at 1pm, and stood in a queue for 20 minutes before being served. In the end we opted for just an ice cream and then left, seeing the pained expressions and busyness of the staff. I have eaten here a few times over the years, and the real problem is not the food but the service - the two women in Jul '13 were stressed, had no backup, and were not coping with the number of clientèle even though this was midweek. Two people to cook, serve, and waitress many outside tables on a sunny day is insufficient. Put more people on, so that they are less harassed, and you could enjoy the food and the canal side setting (which is beautiful and includes a residential community). And the business could thrive. As others have said, the chap in the bike shop is delightful.

“A interesting pause”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2013 via mobile

Cycled from Bath towards the Two Tunnels stopped for lunch. Actually the cafe is not great. Why i these days you cannot buy a sandwich or a a bap. All they had was baguettes. The baguette was stodgy and tasteless precisely what you dont want in the middle of a cycle ride. The young lady serving was not the soul of good humour either. There was a young lad running a cycle shop who was friendly and helpful and I would recommend him. The position is lovely it must be said.
