I am so thankful that my traveling companion had the great foresight to look into Knockbain House for our accommodations in the Highlands. David and Denise were so helpful and the grounds were absolutely stunning! The weather was beautiful - 70's and 80's with sun, sun, sun, which we feel very fortunate to have experienced. The grounds and the rooms were delightful and the baby lambs were a source of great entertainment. Twiggy the running dog was also a source of comfort for each of us as we are pet lovers and missed our own furry creatures. I highly recommend this "home" as a place of respite amidst the busy traveling around the beauty of the Highlands. We LOVE Knockbain House, Farm and the proprietors. Very worth the drive!

Spent 4 nights here and could not have been happier. Hosts are most welcoming and had great suggestions for us. We used Dingwall as a jumping off point and traveled west and east as well as a little north. The weather was great, everything in bloom, warm even for us Texans. Our trip to Skye was worth every minute driving and the views of the Highlands were gorgeous. Denise pointed us to some great shopping in Dornach - and the church there was a wonderful find as well. Makes all the difference in the world when traveling to know that your "home away from home" is so welcoming and comfortable after a long day away! Really enjoyed the walk up the hill in the evening twilight. The view from the top was breathtaking. Very pastoral setting, sumptious in the quiet of the country.

Room Tip: All three of the rooms were great.

Friendly hosts, lovely sitting room to relax in, comfortable bedrooms. Everything was splendid. The highlight was the food - terrific breakfast, and you can also book dinner which is really excellent - better than most restaurants, and good value.

We landed at Knockbain Farm airfield at very short notice, whilst flying through Scotland. David came out to meet us and when he realised that we had no accommodation booked, offered to accommodate us in his B&B. We gratefully took "pot luck" and how fortunate it turned out to be. The accommodation is delightful and we were really made to feel at home. Clean rooms, comfy beds, luxury shower and a guests' sitting room, which is beautifully appointed and enjoys quite spectacular views over the gardens and surrounding countryside.

Free WiFi helped us to plan our next day's flight.

What made our stay particularly memorable was the first class hospitality we received from Denise and David. They could not have been more helpful. Denise drove us and our luggage back to our airplane and David was a mine of useful information about flying in Scotland.

Knockbain House is certainly worth a visit.

Thank you, Denise & David for all your help.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights at this bed and breakfast and would recommend it to anyone. The accommodation really is perfect and the owners were extremely friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Denise served a first class breakfast with fresh fruit and lovely creamy scrambled eggs! Although we visited as a couple we do have young children and I noted that the accommodation would be great for a family. The double ensuite (which has a lovely lounge area) and twin room are both located down a private corridor so you wouldn't have to worry about wakeful children disturbing the rest of the house. The house is just outside Dingwall so is peaceful with beautiful views but is an easy walk (although a bit of a hill on the way back!) down in to the town. We would go back in an instant!

If you are looking for place to stay with the charm of a quintessential Stately Home and the personal service of a five star hotel, you really should give Knockbain House a try.

My family and I had the pleasure of a three night stay with superb hosts David and Denise in mid-October. The whole experience was delightful from the moment we booked, when Denise kindly advised (and booked) local restaurants for our evening meals, to the time we left when we felt more like part of the family as opposed to simply guests of the House.

When we arrived there was a magical log fire roaring in the lounge and David and Denise welcomed us with a tray of tea and freshly baked cakes. The first thing that hits you is the total peace and quiet. The only things to be heard are bird song and the reassuring sounds of the Scottish countryside.

All the guest rooms are presented to a five star standard with the main bedroom having a spacious lounge area as well as en-suite facilities. Every comfort of home is provided for but much more than this, is the kind hospitality of Denise and David and their willingness to assist in any way they can to make your stay both memorable and enjoyable. As if the bedrooms weren’t enough luxury in themselves, guests are afforded their own lounge with every creature comfort the discerning guest could desire (including the previously mentioned log fire).

The décor of Knockbain House is akin to a Stately Home with original paintings and artefacts from the family’s personal collection, dating back to the 19th century and beyond. It is of great credit to the owners that they have managed to artistically blend this historic environment with many modern appliances, ranging from digital TV channels to state of the art shower/bathroom fittings etc.

The breakfast fare is everything you would expect from such a first class establishment with fresh fruit and porridge/cereals your ‘starters for ten’. Once again nothing was too much trouble for our hosts, all we had to do was ask and it was provided.
It must be remembered that while it may be true to say that Dingwall does not have a great deal to offer the tourist traveller (apart from the mighty Ross County Football Club!), it offers a great position from which to explore the beauty of Scotland. Inverness airport is approximately 30 minutes away, with Loch Ness being a similar distance. In high season the great advantage of staying in this area would be the peace and serenity of being away from the ‘madding crowd’.

The only complaint that we could muster is that the pictures and description of Knockbain House do not pay it justice. Go on give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.
