My husband and I just got married at Loch an Eilein a month ago and we and our families stayed at the Dell of Abernethy (in the Dell Lodge, the Little Dell, the West Dell and the East Dell) before and after the wedding.

The charming cottages and peaceful property was the perfect way to enjoy this special time with both our families--we loved that the Dell can connect to the Little Dell and West Dell so that our families could spend time together in the amazing kitchen and sitting rooms, or retreat to their own areas for total privacy (my husband and I chose to stay in the East Dell for even more privacy). It was so great to be able to cook a few meals together and to have a relaxing and memorable time surrounding our wedding.

As I said, the cottages were beautiful and we were so happy that our wedding photographers had such a great backdrop to photograph us before and after the ceremony. We really loved all of the details in each of the cottages—it’s so obvious that Polly and Ross have invested so much of themselves into renovating and decorating the property to make their guests feel right at home.

In addition to the fantastic accommodations (we agreed the showers and beds were the best of any place we stayed on our 30-day trip), what really made the experience so special for us was the warmth and kindness of Polly and Ross. Before we even arrived, Polly was so eager and kind to help with recommendations for a florist, kilt hire, piper, cake, etc. She and Ross even offered to chauffer us to and from the wedding in their beautiful blue vintage car, and they prepared and served an AMAZING meal for us to enjoy at the lodge after the wedding. Ross even led us through a fireside whisky tasting for us on our last night, and it was the perfect way to end our stay.

Their attention to detail was outstanding—in addition to the beautiful menu with wine pairings, they also arranged a surprise champagne toast for us at the Loch (which was great, because none of us had thought to do something like that). Ross also brought along a beautiful orange blanket that kept me warm after the ceremony and looks stunning in the photos (thankfully we didn’t need to use the white umbrella that he had also brought along, but it was, again, completely thoughtful of them, especially as we weren’t thinking about things like that at the time).

The day before the wedding Ross and Polly realized that there was a small mechanical problem with their blue car (it was still driveable, but they were afraid that it might cause problems on our ride to or from the loch). What was so impressive was that they handled the situation right away and secured a gorgeous white vintage Daimler to drive instead (we absolutely loved the blue car, but the car they got instead was even more impressive). They let us know about the situation, and their solution, and we were so happy that they had taken care of it instead of running the risk of the car stalling on our wedding day. Polly decorated the inside of the car with flowers from her garden and they put ribbons on the outside, and it really was one of the most special moments of my wedding getting in the car with my parents before I got married, and then getting in again with my new husband.

Ross and Polly really made us feel like we were part of their family—their enthusiasm for their work and the way they look for opportunities to positively impact the Dell and their community is so inspiring. They are genuinely amazing people.

I really could go on and on about all of the wonderful ways Ross and Polly made us feel so welcome, but it would be too long! Suffice it to say that I HIGHLY recommend the Dell as THE perfect place to hold a reunion, an anniversary, a wedding, or any other sort of celebration, and I am also looking forward to going back with my husband sometime in the nearish future, just to spend some time together enjoying the beautiful area in the comfort of the cottages.

(Note: the photographs were taken by our photographers Wilson & McSheffrey, but I wanted to include them to show how beautiful the Dell is, and how great it is for weddings or other celebrations because of all the amazing lighting and spaces for beautiful photographs)

We stayed at West Dell cottage for 5 nights. Nice, old cottages surrounded by lovely grounds and Abernethy woods & wildlife.
The Dell was also an excellent place to get around the Highlands.
Polly & Ross gave us plenty of useful advice and tips.
And the brownies were delicious. Thank You!
The West Dell felt almost like home! Our stay at the Dell was really pleasant and memorable.

We live locally and have used this beautiful little place as a wee getaway. We've stayed in a number of the cottages and in the big house, and while the standards (and the prices accordingly) vary, we loved them all. The "big house" is incredible - a wonderful, thoughtful and sensitive renovation. Country style modern luxury with space, comfort and with stunning, stripped back class.

The cottages have the same thoughtful feeling. They do have a touch of the 50s, which is nice. They're solid, cosy, pretty little places where you can snuggle up or hit the hills. Not far from the villages nearby.

The owners couldn't be more helpful but will leave you in peace. Lovely people. The garden blends with the countryside all around and the firepit in the forest is a highlight.

A little late to review here. We stayed as a group of four back in February. The cottage was completely charming and the couple were so lovely and helpful. We loved the pancakes on arrival!! Everything was just perfect about these little cottages, the location too was perfect. The host was so kind he even drove us up to Glenmore so that we could do a linear walk back to the cottage! I will 100% be coming back here again. Thank you so much for an amazing weekend.

A perfect location, attentive owners - Ross and Polly, who especially went out of the way to make our young son welcome - and lots of little homemade touches. We left last summer having already decided to come back his summer.
