Spent a night at the lazy duck campsite, which is on the glamping side of camping- everything is available if you ask and staff and owners are on hand all the time. The facilities are great- even the bush shower. You can tell that the owners love the site and they're always looking for ways to improve- I'm not sure what else could be done though!

Excellent well equipped hostel in great location. The outside sheltered BBQ area is a real gem and the plentiful supply of wood a real bonus. The log burner inside makes it really cosy. The only slight downside is the rules about going down to the river but this is for understandable reasons.

Room Tip: Four bunks downstairs accessed off the kitchen and people upstairs have to walk through.

I spent three nights at the Lazy Duck in April 2013. It was quite amazing. Very quirky but very comfortable whilst still in keeping with the feeling of being in the wonderful forest around Nethy. Lots of privacy but it would be a good idea to go with close friends. If you are here in winter or anything other than high summer then you'll need a torch if you are out at night. My group of friends an I loved the wood burning stove and the big fire outside. WE had a visit from a red squirrel every morning and there are views of the Cairngorm massif from the kitchen table. I would definitely go back.

Room Tip: There are other cabins but the lazy duck hostel fitted us down to the ground.

This was our 4th trip to the Lazy Duck, previously we have camped twice and once we stayed in the hostel. There is no doubt the surroundings are very lovely and to be honest on previous stays we did have any real complaints... the owners although lovely are a little overbearing and sometimes slightly intrusive but maybe that was just because we had young kids in our group.

Ok this time we camped for one night and although there was plenty room in the normal campsite for some reason other guests we're given the whole area to themselves?!?! this left us being put the the ''overflow" camping field which with our 2 year old daughter was very concerning as after we pitched the tent we notice that the whole field was surrounded by an ELECTRIC FENCE. If it wast relatively late at night and we hadn't been driving for 2 hours we would have packed up and gone home!! Sorry to say we wont be back and would like other campers with young children to beware!

Oh dear, what a shame that your 4th visit to us was spoiled by a worry over the electric fence. This was a necessary precaution to safeguard campers from the intrusive noses of our new born Soay lambs which are far too inquisitive for their own good. Your concern is quite understandable; we apologise and yes, last year one other family of regular Lazy Duck campers, chatting about the problem with us on departure, did ask when we would be back to normal.

The adjacent regular camping ground together with campers' shelter, swings, hammock and chiminea fires is now fully operational again for 2013. The ground has taken longer than we had hoped to completely re surface and re grass and have the drainage of rainwater running away satisfactorily.

Given that you have been such regular visitors to both the hostel and the camping ground we would be very pleased to make any return two night camping trip you might consider making, 'on the house'.

All the best

My teenage daughter and I stayed at the Bunkhouse for 3 nights. We had a great stay. Loved the woodfire stove. Very peaceful to walk around and unwind after a day of sightseeing. The only complaint I have is my GPS didn't want to find the place so well so we had to stop for directions. The support staff was very friendly and helpful and the bunkhouse is very clean and tidy and comfortable.

Room Tip: we slept in the top cubby area of the house - may be difficult for people who can't do ladders well but we liked the privacy.
