I stayed at Lazy Duch for a reasonable period of time and can affirm that the place is unique. Besides, it is good located, and I could even cycle to several places such as Aviemore while being there. Do not hesitate to try the hot tub at any time: you will not regret it. And last but not least, I would like to point out that the owners, David and Valery, were really nice to me and were delighted to show me the place and its surroundings!

Good to know David that you felt well looked after and got to explore our part of the Cairngorms. Haste ye back.

All the best,

We've stayed at a number of camp sites and this one really is quite different, in a good way.

Everyone we met was pleasant and helpful, we got a good welcome and comprehensive tour of the site by JC upon arrival. The site itself is fantastically thought out, and the woodman's shower is actually really great (I was initially dubious but was won over by it).

We camped, the site only allows a few tents at a time so there is plenty of space. The camping ground is level and well kept, with a shelter provided for campers to use for cooking or sheltering in case of bad weather and chimineas to sit around on cool evenings. On top of all this, this surround area is beautiful.

We are really considering returning to stay in one of the huts at a future date.

Thanks for your kind review. You are not the first convert to our warm water bush showers. We guess you were using the brand new Wild Willow shower which serves the 4 pitch lightweight tent camping ground. It really has been a hit and we are hurriedly doing a reprint of the 'Certificates of Courage' campers can award themselves, take home, frame and exhibit to impress their friends. Should you decide to try either The Woodman's Hut or The Duck's Nest 2 person eco huts on your next visit, be assured you can bush shower there too!

All the best,

Team Lazy Duck, 2014

Was a nice couples get away and the volunteer JC was great and really helpful. Took a while to shine to the owners but soon we where all feeding the ducks and chatting.

The woodcutters cabin was great and the eco friendly approach made it really fun to shower in the freezing cold under hot water overlooking Cairngorm.

4 stars!

Thanks so much folks for your encouraging review. It looks as if you were staying in our Woodman's Hut on the edge of the 100 acre moor, looking straight to Cairngorm. Yes, the view from the warm bush shower there is one of the most unusual and rewarding you are likely to find around here.

Just to help you and others perhaps: Juan Carlos - JC - is not one of our international volunteer summer helpers. He and his wife Jo are managers here and as owners, Valery & David keep to taking rather a back seat so as not to confuse visitors. As owners and front runners here for 15 years and while still active, they now leave confidently the major hospitality role to Jo and JC. As you discovered perhaps, Valery is quietly busy growing salads and vegetables for guests and David can pop up anywhere to assist guests in the hostel, huts or 4 pitch camping ground and often is be found with the ducks. He always welcomes visitor interest.

We look forward to welcoming you back someday.

Third time at the Hostel. Fantastic facility in a really beautiful setting. Sadly didn't have time for the natural hot-tub, but enjoyed a glass of wine next to the roaring fire. Very friendly and helpful staff.

My partner and I fell in love with Lazy Duck the moment we came through the gate at the front of the property. We stayed in the Woodman's Hut so cannot comment on the other accommodation, but from the outside everything looked beautiful with lovely gardens and places to sit and watch the world go by. David and Valery both took the time to say hello and we took advantage of their offer of charging our phones/computers using the power station by the main house and had no problems re security.

The Woodman's Hut itself was a delight. Warm (Juan's warm welcome extended to have already fired up the wood burning stove for us!), cosy, well equipped and just the right amount of adventure (no electricity or hot water!). The books, games and radio provided kept us occupied, or we just grabbed one of the blankets and sat out on the porch to watch the red squirrels and world go by.

We also spent an evening in the hot tub which we highly recommend! Such a treat to watch the sun go down and stars come out in such a beautiful spot. We would love to return in the future, it is such a special place and I recommend it to anyone who wants to relax and have some 'time out' from the stresses of everyday life.

Many thanks for your kind review. When folk travel all the way from London to dip into the elemental life of The Lazy Duck, we do our best to see that the reality here matches any rhetoric in the way we may have described this small 6 acre 'oasis' to you. That takes team effort and it's good that you came across us all - David, Valery Juan Carlos (JC) and Jo. Plus probably Andrew 2 yrs. & Django, supposed to be a working cocker spaniel!

This year again we are particularly grateful to our international volunteer summer helpers for their contribution from May until October - Thea, Holland, Gregoire, France, George, Canada, Barbara, Italy, Ian, England & Melanie, Holland.

Haste ye back!
