We spent the week prior to visiting Barefoot's driving around Puerto Rico, and staying in hotels in San Juan and Mayaguez. When we arrived at Barefoot's, it was exactly what we needed - a calm, chill, relaxing place to hang out and use as a base camp for activities in the area. Keishya and Bob are fantastic hosts, and have pretty much everything available that you could possibly need, from kitchen supplies to pool/beach equipment. The neighborhood the house is located in is gated and quiet, and we spent a lot of time just walking around, taking pictures of the beachy Puerto Rican architecture. Beach access is about a 2 minute walk away, and the Humacao Nature Reserve is adjacent to the neighborhood - a 5 minute walk away. We spent a lot of time at the beach and at the reserve, but also just spent some time hanging out by the pool or in the hammock. We cooked a few meals in the kitchen, which was a great kitchen to work in - large, room enough for several people to be doing prep, and lots of counter space.

There are several restaurants within walking distance, including La Casa Del Mofongo, which we ate at and loved. Groceries are about a 5-10 minute drive away (you can go to WalMart, but we liked the Econo better). The dock/beach area of Punta Santiago is about a 5 minute drive away, and a fun place to hang out. I would highly, highly recommend Barefoots, especially if you'll be doing any activities out of Fajardo, as the drive to there is not bad at all.

Anyway, I have nothing bad to say about this place, and lots of lots of good things! I'd really recommend staying here like we did - at the end of our trip to Puerto Rico, after we've dealt with the traffic and craziness that the other parts of the island can throw at you. It was so nice to be able to simply relax and enjoy the warmth and the ocean without any stress whatsoever.

My husband and I stayed there for four nights and we loved every moment of it. We stayed in the room with the en suite bathroom and shared the kitchen, living room space and yard (with pool) with a lovely family that occupied the other two rooms for the duration of our stay. The hosts, Keishya and Bob live upstairs and are pretty invisible until you give them a shout if you need their help.

The kitchen was well stocked with all the equipment you need to prepare small or big meals (loved the fact there was a smoothie maker even though I only used it once) and I enjoyed hanging out in the living room hammock by the window in the evening.

There is a Walmart a short drive away where we got everything to stock the fridge. The fruit and veggie selection there was really good. Just outside the gate are a few restaurants. We ate at the one on the far end and the food was great. Mofongo anyone?

The room and bathroom was clean and fulfilled all our needs.

Keishya and Bob were both super helpful in answering all our questions and helping us plan our days, i.e directions, additional ideas of what to do, ect.

The guesthouse is a very short walk to the beach that we enjoyed a lot. The nature reserve is right there too and we did a couple of lovely walks there. if you want to be the only one at the beach, walk through the forest to find your favorite strip of beach and water. Bob and Keishya have a bunch of boogie boards, beach towels and beach chairs for guests to use.

We also did the kayak trip to Monkey Island with Bob and enjoyed the snorkeling there. Bob was very accommodating - bringing extra goggles to make sure everyone had one that fit and taking the other two of our group to another spot while my husband and I paddled back to the beach.

Keishya and Bob have 4 well behaved dogs that we enjoyed having around.

We came without our children but thought that this would be a wonderful place to stay as a family.

We came back to winter and we have sweet memories of waking up warm Puerto Rican sun, birds chirping and having coffee in the yard.

My son and I stayed at Barefoot for 2 nights, and also went kayaking to Monkey Island. Keishya was so helpful every step of the way, even giving me wonderful ideas and recommendations for places to stay and things to do in other areas. The house and accommodations were lovely. Close authentic restaurants are nearby , but we also were able to have full access to the kitchen, so eating poolside, and saving money , was also a great option. The kayak trip was great. Keishya was a wonderful guide and accommodating to all the needs of the participants, allowing some of us to continue around the island, while staying back with those who did not want to. Because we stayed at the guesthouse we were able to kayak back to the beach near the house. The snorkeling was amazing as well. Right next to the beach we had access to a Nature Preserve. Honestly, we enjoyed hiking the trails their even better than the rainforest. Much less people! The pool by the house was also lovely, as was bringing chairs and having a glass ( or two) of wine by the beach at sundown. All in all, it was a great place to stay and a wonderful time.

This was our least favorite "accommodation" during our week-long stay in Puerto Rico. We thought the owners were stern and unwelcoming. From the moment we walked in it was, "Don't do this...", "Don't do that...", "This is here, but you can't use it..." How about instead of taking us on a tour of no-nos you tell us that Hot is Cold and Cold is Hot in the shower?!

Then we get escorted to a room too small to even open our suitcases. And if you're a smoker, forget about smoking comfortably OUTSIDE in a chair in the gated yard. You'll probably end up like us, smoking in the middle of this gated neighborhood's street. Awesome! We couldn't wait to get out of there.

Look, I understand that this is their home. I wonder if that's how they would treat their friends or family if they came over. We should have been treated like guests, but I felt more like a burden. The beach is a REALLY short walk down the road, but it was the dirtiest beach we saw anywhere on the island. It is cheap, but so what? I'd rather pay more and be treated like the adult I am.

We had a group that included 3 couples, so we took over the whole guest house. It was nothing fancy, but it was nice to experience the true culture of the area as the guesthouse is located in a gated residential area just a block from the beach (safer than a hotel). If you want a cookie cutter vacation, like all of your previous ones, then stay at an over priced resort in Fajardo, but if you truly want to experience Puerto Rico stay here! The place was clean with a cool breeze flowing through ( we never needed the air conditioning turned on ) and the kitchen provided an area for nightly and breakfast gatherings.....that is when we weren't by the pool, kayaking or at the beach!

We happened to be staying there when Keishya (the owner) received her 2014 Trip Advisor Award! It was exciting to share in such an honor!!! Had a great 2 night stay...thanks!!!!

Barefoot Travelers is a most stay! The home is comfortable and meets all your needs at a great cost. The neighborhood beach is private and relaxing. There is also a NWR within walking distance and many birds for watching in the neighborhood. We would stay here again without question!
