“Outstanding hosts in a beautiful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2013 via mobile

We recently had an extremely relaxing 4 night stay in Posada Olivar. The guesthouse is located on beautiful gardens, along with attractive patio and pool areas. Jose Luis and all staff were so helpful and accommodatIng. The accommodation is very centrally located in Chacras de Coria, a 2 minute walk from the main street. Would highly recommend!

We recently stayed at Posada Olivar for the second time. We had a lovely and spacious suite. The posada is surrounded by an olive grove and gardens with a lovely pool. Close by are wonderful restaurants that are within walking distance. Jose his a wonderful host who is only too happy to make recommendations and reservations for you. He cannot do enough for you. All the reasons we visited a second time.

We stayed in a suite that had A/C. We do not think the other rooms have A/C but the evenings tend to be cool. There are no TV's or safes. The posada is very secure and if you keep Argentinean time you won't be back from dinner until midnight and will not require a TV. WiFi is available. Pat C Canada

Posada Olivar is located in a small town called Chacras De Coria, a 15 to 20 minute taxi ride to Mendoza City which cost about ARG $70.
It is set within very large gardens with lots of olive trees, very relaxing atmosphere when sat outside the room or by the pool.
The room is basic but very large, no TV or security safe. The bathroom is very modern.
With a little more attention to detail we would have rated it as excellent.
Great spot only 5 minutes safe walk to a good selection of restaurants and small shops.
Jose Luis was a great host, booked us taxis and even cooked an Argentinian BBQ one night at no cost. Never had this experience in all our travels, best tasting meat ever!!
Would stay again and recommend.

Posada Olivar is located in Chacras (as locals call it) which is a small town about 20-mins from Mendoza city and quite close to a few bodegas (walking distance to at least 3 of them). Jose Luis runs the place and lives with his parents live in the main house. The guests are in rooms in a separate building with a kitchen and living/dining area. The place has a rustic feel to it but
is very comfortable and the large area surrounding the house has numerous olive and fruit trees (mainly Apricot and Plums). There is a nice swimming pool as well. The area reminded me a little bit of a Provencal village we stayed in once.

Jose is an excellent host and very friendly and accommodating. Our bookings were organised over email and he received us even when we arrived quite late in the evening. Breakfast is a simple affair with croissants and other baked goods fresh from the local bakery every morning, freshly brewed coffee, tea, juice and fresh fruits from the orchard outside. We didn't ask for any cooked food and in any case didn't feel the need for it.

Jose gave us maps and directions to wineries/bodegas in the area and also recommended a wine tour (Trout and Wine Tours) that we used. In the area the organic winery Pulmary is simply stunning - I tasted the best example of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon here and the winemaker was extremely generous with her time and spent over an hour with us on a tour of the bodega and doing tastings.

Jose organised taxis when required and a dinner booking at an Italian in Mendoza.

This is not a place for people looking for a hotel experience - rather it is an intimate bed and breakfast. On the second night Jose put on an Asado (Argentinian BBQ) that was very delicious and this was complimentary (again a very generous gesture in my view).

I highly recommend 3-nights here (on a minimum) to see the area properly with a day exploring Mendoza city itself.

Room Tip: All rooms (6 in all I think) are nice and spacious. Upstairs might have a bit of a view.

My wife and I stayed in Mendoza for 4 days during our 2 week trip to Argentina. We wanted to stay in Chacras de Coria to be closer to some of the bodegas and to RELAX. This place was the perfect place to do just that. Drink wine and relax (good food too).

Jose was flawless and an excellent host. He met us (at 9pm, I might add) as the taxi arrived and unloaded our bags. Then gave us maps and direction for all of the things we must do. Breakfast was on the table every morning when we woke up and not once did we feel like we were at a hotel or at a unsafe place. The grounds were beautiful too. Didnt use the pool because it was a bit cool, but looked amazing.

Recommend walking to Dontesco and Hand of God for great great great places to eat! and only 5 minute walk.

Thanks Jose!

Stayed there for 3 days at the beginning of October, excellent value, beautiful place, Jose is an excellent host and helps to organise visits at the local wineries as well. Just ask him for advise. Just a short walk away is a small shopping centre, restaurants are along the main street about 3 minutes away. Theres a bigger supermarket approx 10 min drive away but small shops around the areas i.e. bakery etc cater for your normal needs and jose serves a typical Argentines breakfast with good coffee and some sweet roles freshly made at the bakery around the corner. Mendoza city is approx 20 min drive away, we haven t been impressed by it as a city, but that depends on what one is looking for. After dark not much to do but out there so rest and enjoy the beautiful views (especially from the upstairs unit) and have a glass of wine -- go and see PULMARY winery just a couple of minutes away from Posada on the main road- ask Jose for directions). Organic concept with ecological methods in the vineyards and in the winery. Talk to the wine maker, a young american who is extremely knowledgable and enthusiastic about Argentinean wines -- not the usual crap some other wineries / winemakers tell you. Not a flash place, they have a very good small "restaurant" as well, more kind of a boutique winery but excellent wqines. Another winery to visit is Bodega Tapiz and an excellent place and winery for lunch is Bodega Ruca Malen -- ask Jose for directions, at Tapiz you need to book for a tour as they start normally at 10 am and for Ruca you definitely need a booking; Ruca is expensive but offers probably the bests food and wine match we had in Argentina -- and we ate and drank a lot; plus the service and atmosphere is from a different planet as well! -- don t bother with Finca Decero, there are reviews on trip advisor of people who did leave their taste buts and common sense at the gate -- over priced and not worth the visit as the wines are dull and unimpressive, the food was tasteless, without any thoughts, the service overwhelmed by approx 20 guests for lunch (as there is only one chef and one waiter) and not matching the wines, tour busses parked in front as well). Posada is definitely the second best place we stayed in Mendoza province (first one is definitely in Tupangato: TUPUNGATO DIVINO - completely different from Posada, see my other reviews).

Room Tip: Ask for the room on the first floor when booking , nice views and a terrace to relax on

We stayed at the posada for 4 nights in early May 2012 and absolutely loved it. While very close to the center of Chacras de Coria (10 minute walk to the center or 5 minute walk to the main street with restaurants), the posada is set back on a lovely piece of land with olive trees. We stayed in the upstairs room which was very spacious and nicely done, with a great jacuzzi bath. The bedroom has a little balcony off the back which overlooks the back garden, perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine. The entire experience felt very home-like and welcoming, and it was exactly the experience we had hoped for in Mendoza.

Jose, the owner of the posada, was very helpful and always available to answer questions or offer suggestions of how to make the most of our stay. We were there on a public holiday when pretty much everything in the area was closed, but Jose managed to get us a lunch tour/reservation at maybe the only winery open that day (the next day we went on a small wine tour and a few people commented that their posada wasn't able to find them anything to do on the holiday), so he really went above and beyond.

I'm sure there are many fantastic options to stay in Mendoza and we debated over both the area and where to stay, but are so pleased we chose Olivar due to it's small size, beautiful setting, great host, and super reasonable price. We loved it so much we're already thinking about returning!
