The Castle on Tamborine
Reviewed 12 April 2012

Admittedly it was a last minute decision to book with Lesson Grove - The Castle. My wife and I stayed for two nights over Easter and we were not impressed, at least for the price tag. The Castle is more like a small townhouse that you expect to find near a major city. The interior is well designed and quite modern but it has some major flaws. The apartment has a plunge pool however it was way too cold to swim in as it gets no sun. It also had a projector for dvd's, tv, etc, however during the day you have to close up all the curtains / blinds just to be able to see it with decent clarity. Also as the plunge pool is right next to the lounge where the projector is and separated by bifold doors that we were asked to keep closed at all times as it effects the projector lense via moisture.
From the castle website we were under the impression that breakfast is cooked for you however it was simply a meat pack left in the fridge. We had a goblet of orange juice, barely enough for one mornings breakfast let alone two and it was covered with glad wrap in the fridge. The kitchen doesn't have a range hood /vent or fan so what ever you cook the smell goes right through the apartment. Not to mention we had to call reception for toilet paper as we didn't have any on arrival.

Perhaps the most disappointing feature, or lack of, was no view. We were really hoping for beautiful mountain views. We in fact had a view of a spare block of land and the road...

For the price $648 per night, The Castle is way overpriced.

My shiny new wife and I had the pleasure of spending 9 nights in The Castle on Tamborine whilst on our honeymoon. Infact, we spent all but 3 nights of our honeymoon at The Castle. We should add here that we were there on a special deal that Nick did up especially for us. We couldn't have afforded to stay there for 9 nights at the full rate.

Anyway, we found the facilities to be IMPECCABLE! We couldn't have hoped for a better location. The unit was imaculate, the decor was modern, fresh and unique, the sunken lounge and the HD projector and DVD player were a very welcome addition. The 6ft plunge pool within our Castle was something we have never come across before and was a novel experience. Having your own pool inside your accommodation is very cool! The mosaic behind the waterfall (in the pool) was beautiful.

Upstairs, we had a 4 poster antique bed which was delightfully comfortable and created a unique medieval feel (after all, we were staying in a castle). The attached ensuite was spotless, and contained everything we could need. The double spa was maybe a touch small to be called double, but still had enough room. The fixtures and fittings all looked brand new. If we wanted it, the entire Castle wing was cleaned daily, though we decided it didn't really need it. The bathrobes were THE MOST comfortable we have ever encountered. They were soft and fluffy - my wife was sold the second she saw them.

And then there was the breakfasts - OH, THE BREAKFASTS! The breakfasts were the highlight of our stay. We were there for 9 mornings and not once did we have anything we even remotely disliked. Nick informed us that he is a qualified chef - it shows. The breakfasts were amazing! On the last evening, Nick called by and asked us what we would like for breakfast - it was up to us - we just asked for a repeat of one of his creations from earlier in the week. I should say, the breakfasts alone are reason enough to stay at Lisson Grove (The Castle).

To sum it up, we would gladly recommend The Castle, and the Lisson Grove service to anyone looking for a romantic honeymoon location. Nick's service was second to none. Thanks Nick!
