Called during the week for a sat night booking, was told booked out but was on cancellation list. Was going to glen waverley for dinner regardless and was so happy when i got the call at 5pm.
I was in the first seating and was worried that i wouldnt be finished by 8pm when you are expected to leave.
Both my friend and i had the $65 per head banquet and were basically finished by approx 7:30 so by 8 we were ready to leave.
I cannot fault any of the meals served except i would go fo the $45 per head next time as the dessert was a tasting plate and we were way too full.
Noticed other reviewers saying it was too pricey but believe it was in par with other restaurants at this standard but mind you i got the banquet but that wasnt expensive for what we got.
Cannot wait to come again!

Had a beautiful lunch at Black Toro yesterday. Not being huge eaters , my wife & I shared 5 Poco plates for less than $65 Very reasonable. Each dish was subtle in taste with a mixture of Spanish & Mexican. The service was great & the waitress extremely polite. Will return soon.

Visited with the wife after reading multiple good reviews about this place. Have to say, was slightly disappointed. Had a few poco plates: tortilla chips, pulled pork tacos, and wagyu sliders. Servings were pretty small (I'm talking two bites for a taco & slider) - if you're hungry/a guy, you'll need to order more, much more. The food was pretty decent, not bad at all, but also not outstanding. Overall, given the pricey-ness, one would expect slightly larger servings. I might come back to try the banquet as that seems a bit more value-for-money... but if I had to go a la carte again, I'd give this place a miss.

This was an interesting restaurant with good food and service and not typical of suburban Melbourne restaurants. The Mexican and Spanish food was tasty and well presented. The service was friendly and prompt. It lacked a little atmosphere but overall an enjoyable lunch

Being locals we were had wanted to try The Black Toro for the past year or so - but just hadn't got round to booking, as the couple of times we tried they were fully booked. In fact, booking ahead is needed at least a week.

Went with friends, chose the banquet, and it was well worth it. A little on the pricey side but more than enough food. Agree with other reviewers that we would not have said it was Mexican or Spanish but still good. Some of the small dishes were a bit tasteless but each dish improved on the other. The final dish was amazing lamb.

So, in summary - book ahead. Service was amazing. Some dishes were not tasty. Worth a try
