“2 Great Nights at Lake Tekapo Lodge.”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

Spent 2 nights in early Feb. Greeted by Stephanie and Alstair and the two Jack Russells and immediately made to feel at home. We needed some washing done and without hesitation, Stephanie not only did it, but returned it to our room folded. Lovely room with a nice view of the Lake. Stephanie was great with local information, suggested a great Japanese Restaurant and offered to cook us dinner the following night. We had a wonderful night with a couple from Cornwell and a couple from Yorkshire. Alstair cooked a fantastic lamb backstrap and a great sweet which was complimented with fine wines. A lovely property with wonderful touches and art work, you feel like you are staying in your home, rather than a B & B. Highly recommend and if you get offered the dinner, do not miss it. Thank you Stephanie and Alstair for a wounderful stay.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great with a fantastic view.

Hi Carl - it really was our pleasure to have you stay although I am not sure if you actually used the room it was so spotless when I went to service it?! Glad you enjoyed the company of our other lovely guests and that Alistair's dinner hit the right spot! Hope you come back to NZ now you have experienced a little bit of our way of life and glorious landscape. Cheers, Stephanie

We have just spent the last two nights at Tekapo Lodge and from the minute we drove in the driveway we felt at home. Stephanie plus the two Jack Russels were immediately there to greet us and to show us around the lodge and take us to our room (out of bounds to the dogs I might add, although it would not have bothered me).

We stayed in Tekapo which had a lake view, all I can say is wow. The view of the lake and the mountains beyond was absolutely stunning. As the hours pass the colours are changing from pinks to blues, browns to orange fascinating. Just outside the room is a deck for lounging with a couple of chairs to just sit and take in the view or to star gaze after dark.
The bedroom itself was beautifully decorated with gorgeous artwork adorning the walls all designed I think by Stephanie who has impeccable taste.

The bathroom also handsomely designed with a huge walk in shower and plenty of space to move around. If I had to moan about anything it would be there is not a huge amount of hanging space and no drawer space so if you were staying more than a couple of nights, you may find it a problem but hey, who cares, there is a huge suitcase rack and that worked fine.

Stephanie and Alistair provide complimentary wine, beer, tea and coffee which is supplied from the beautiful guest lounge, another wonderful room that you can relax in after dinner or at anytime you fancy some quiet time with a selection of reading material on offer.

The breakfast room is another beautifully designed room with a huge picture window overlooking the lake. Breakfast was wonderful, fruit, cereals, yogurt and juices all there for you with hot toast and croissants on the table with jam and marmalade. Alistair cooks the most amazing omelettes or eggs done any style with crispy bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes.

To sum up our stay at Lake Tekapo Lodge, well I think it's obvious, thank you Stephanie and Alistair for being amazing hosts, and Stephanie thank you again for all the help you gave us in arranging our onward entertainment on tenet leg of our journey.

Hi Virginia - many thanks - it was lovely having you both to stay. I especially appreciated your keeping the booking when we could not offer consecutive nights in same room due to prior bookings! Hope the Taieri train trip was fun and look forward to seeing you again! Cheers, Stephanie

After a full week in a camper van, our stay at Lake Tekapo Lodge was like heaven. The accommodation was fantastic, as were the amenities and location. Breakfast was excellent as well. The art throughout the house was delightful, the owners put a lot of thought into the decor, to excellent results. The owners were friendly and very welcoming, and I must say that we were sad we could only stay there one night. If we ever make it back to South Island, I'll want to stay again.

Hi Melissa! Many thanks for remembering us after so long since you stayed... Mind you when you compare a stay with us to a campervan experience they are quite different! It was lovely to have you both here and come and let us look after you next time you visit NZ. Cheers

Lake Tekapo Lodge is an exceptional place to stay. The owners bought the property less than two years ago and renovated and decorated it, clearly sparing no expense. The rooms are beautiful and full of high-end finishes. The setting is beautiful. The style is eclectic and fantastic.

We requested a dinner, which Alistair cooked. It was really delicious, perfectly done with great wine pairings. I highly recommend this as the other options in Tekapo seem uninspiring. The breakfast was also generous and tasty.

Another perk of the lodge is the other owner, Stephanie. She not only helped us plan our stay in Tekapo, but gave us some restaurant and sight seeing tips for our other destinations. She is a wealth of knowledge and happy to share.

I hope to return!

Hi Elizabeth! Not sure if it was a good thing you stayed with us because I have since been trolling the net for gorgeous things from NYNY - the chequer board pattern is here to stay in many more forms! So pleased you enjoyed your stay and dinner - it was fun having you both here. Cheers, Stephanie

I'm just back home from a trip around NZ during which we started at various upmarket hotels - however, this lodge was probably our favourite of the entire trip as it was the most unique and charming. What I particularly loved was the copious original NZ art throughout the hotel and the fresh flowers in every room - this stuck me particularly when our next hotel had tasteful but rather generic prints on the walls.

Top marks also for the food. I arranged dinner, knowing the options would be limited in Tekapo and it was superb and very reasonable. Everything was locally sourced - the lamb, the salmon - and the superb pinot noir was from Kurow. Who even knew they made wine there?
Breakfast was similarly impressive. Fresh fruit, cereals, omelettes and espresso coffee to order.

The room was lovely, the view superb, and there was also a lounge for guests stocked with complimentary wine, beer and soft drinks, tea and coffee, and chocolates.

Our hostess Stephanie was also absolutely lovely. Really it was a class act - and my partner and I were impressed.

It's not cheap but if you are prepared to pay for quality, you will be rewarded with a memorable experience.

Hi Graeme - what a lovely review many thanks! The reward for us is knowing we have touched our guests by sharing our beautiful possessions and hospitality. You certainly "get" us - mind you with an interest in books/art/wine/food we were on the same page.... Hope the weather in Central Otago was kind to you! Hope to see you again!

I cannot praise the lodge enough, rooms are amazing. From the moment you are greeted at the front door until the moment you leave you are made to feel special. The design of the room shows both thought and perfection, every little detail is well thought out from free beer and wine, coffee and tea in the shared to the excellent breakfast provided each morning sat over looking the brilliant view of the light blue lake before you, truly amazing. Try it and be delighted to.

Lake Tekapo Lodge is one of those all-around amazing stays. You'll love the room, you'll love the breakfast, and you'll love Alistair and Stephanie. The Lodge is beautifully decorated and the accommodation is absolutely luxurious.

The entire region is one of the most beautiful and scenic we saw during our three weeks in New Zealand, so it's well worth taking the time to see everything. Alistair gave us a great tip on a nearby lupin field and the lake is just remarkable.
