“Fantastic stay”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

Promised to review when we got back to the uk so here it is!
Fantastic place, fantastic hosts etc need I say more.
We absolutely loved our stay here and would recommend without hesitation.
When we arrived it was dusk/ semi darkness so we didn't appreciate the setting until the following morning. We were welcomed by Alistair who helped with the car parking and Stephanie when we went inside. The lodge is fantastic, these hosts have lovely taste and some very unusual pieces. The visitors lounge was appreciated after a long days drive and there was complimentary tea, coffee, wine etc.
Our room was a delight, our friends were in the next room and both rooms were very individual. Great nights sleep in a comfortable bed. We enjoyed a superb breakfast overlooking the lake - what a setting!
I particularly enjoyed meeting the two terriers, Ted and Buster, who reminded me how much I was missing my own terrier back in England. Thanks for making us so comfortable.

Hi there "northern traveller"! Many thanks for posting a review. Your stay here with your friends was all too short! You are very well travelled so maybe you will return to NZ? More wine regions to explore! NZ can be a gourmand's paradise... Cheers, Stephanie

Stephanie and Alistair have a lovely home with lots of interesting art work and beautiful rooms. Breakfast was superb and full and we met the most interesting fun people to share experiences with. A great place to stay!

Hi Leigh! Many thanks for the review. Places such as our boutique accommodation tend to attract like minded people and we do have some great fun at breakfast time with lively discussion! It was interesting for you to chat to NZers who now live abroad - a different perspective. Hope you enjoyed your holiday in NZ and come back! Cheers, Stephanie

We recently spent one night at Lake Tekapo Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Stephanie and Alistair are first-rate hosts, and when we had to leave, it felt like saying farewell to family. The two Jack Russell terriers were so much fun to interact with (would have loved to smuggle them into my luggage). We stayed in the gorgeously-appointed Tekapo room and felt fabulously pampered from the get-go. Lovely bed, roomy bathroom, fluffy bathrobes, lots of extra touches to make a visit here very memorable. We especially loved the lounge area, filled with books and artwork, as well as liquid refreshments for the guests to enjoy. And the breakfast--oh my! All was so delicious and served in a gorgeous setting overlooking the lake. Tekapo town center is just a short walk away, and if you are looking for dinner out, do take Stephanie's word for the best restaurant in town. We'd recommend a stay here for anyone.

Room Tip: The Tekapo room is a corner unit, so there are windows on two walls. All the rooms are equally lovel...

Hi Lisa and Bill! What a lovely surprise to read your review just now... many thanks. So glad you enjoyed your stay with us (even those rascals Buster and Ted endeared themselves! They are usually out rabbiting...). We do try to make everyone feel very welcome and relaxed so I guess "family" is good enough! It is difficult to say goodbye but we are only an email away and have made so many wonderful friends doing what we love to do. What more could you ask for? See you again for sure. Stephanie

We have stayed in more bed and breakfast accommodation than I care to remember but Stephanie and Craig has put together the most amazingly decorated accomodation you will ever find. The view from the rooms is great, as is the view from the dining room when having breakfast.

Craig cooks an amazing breakfast which is on a par with some of the best restaurants around.

Stephanie's advice on what to see and the best route to take was invaluable.

Tekapo is only a small place with a beautiful lake. The lodge is located in a quiet residential area. A 2 minute walk takes you to a good choice of bars & restaurants.

There are only 4 rooms and the whole house is beautifully decorated with many interesting pictures, photographs & 'art pieces'.There is also a spacious 'guest longe'. We had a lake view room with a lovely view. The room was large, very comfortable with a luxurious modern bathroom & a small deck outside on which to sit and enjoy the view.

Stephanie & Alistair are delightful hosts & full of suggestions to make your stay memorable.
The communal dining in the morning was very enjoyable. Everyone chatted & shared stories & information. Breakfasts were delcious.
Free wifi was very generous.

This is luxury bed and breakfast at its best. So much more enjoyable than a 'chain hotel'
Hope to visit again.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent but a lake view room is the icing on the cake!

This was our last night stay in New Zealand.
Stephanie and Craig are wonderful welcoming hosts.
The accommodation is lovely.
We were in a lake view room with a terrace overlooking the lake.
Really comfortable bed, linens and pillows. Furnishings (chairs, cushions etc) warm and colourful. Ensuite bathroom was great, spacious walk in shower, excellent lighting and good supply of toiletries.
There's a spacious sitting room and library. Tea and coffee making facilities and also complimentary wine.
Lots of varied art on display which was very interesting and colourful.
Breakfast is actually more 'fine dining' than B&B, really tasty, inviting and individually prepared. It was lovely meeting and talking to other guests (for us, German and French guests) plus chatting with Stephanie and Craig.
I wouldn't be surprised if the hosts find it difficult to get the guests to leave by 10 am....you feel that welcome.
Nearby observatory mount John is worth a visit.
There are many local restaurants to eat out in the evening (only a short walk away) ask Stephanie for recommendations.
Our only regret is that we only stayed one night.
Don't hesitate.......book in.......this is a really lovely place.

Many thanks Jan - yes, it was a pity you stayed only one night but as I say, the first trip is just a recce for the next more extensive visit to NZ! You seemed to really enjoy your time with us and it is great to hear guests interacting easily with each other at breakfast. Fortunately with only 4 rooms and quite a few multinight stays the pressure is not on to move guests along... I could easily slip into a chair and chat for hours in the sun at the dining table over breakfast! See you again!!! Best, Stephanie

We stayed at Lake Tekapo Lodge for two nights at the beginning of March. We had a warm and friendly welcome and met both Stephanie and Alistair on check in, they really make this place.... Stephanie is great front of house and Alistair does the magic in the kitchen. On arrival we were asked if we wanted to stay for dinner and were treated to Salmon, salad, an array of vegetables, fantastic wines, lovely pudding... would definitely recommend eating in the Lodge as was worth it. The breakfasts were great too! The rooms are clean and well furnished with terrace area, so comfortable. If you get fed up with your room you can use the guest lounge where tea and coffee is available plus wine, beer etc, also DVD's, music and library of books. Stephanie has tips on all the places to visit and eat locally. The property has been thoughtfully decorated with art works on the walls and for sale. Meet Ted and Buster of you get the chance.. the friendly Jack Russels! We would definitely recommend the Lodge and hope to return one day for more fantastic hospitality.

Hi Sue and Tony - so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and many thanks for the review. It was great we could offer you dinner. Alistair is a dab hand in the kitchen (lucky me) and I really enjoy chatting and hosting the evening. We do try to pretend we do not have Buster and Ted as not everyone is dog loving but if you do enjoy them they will gladly entertain with their rabbiting skills (not...). Much enjoyed having you stay, best, Stephanie
